Chapter 91: Spoiling the Family
Spoiling the Family
For Anna, Victor had chosen a beautiful black hairpin.
Several small red gemstones were set into the dark metal. When the light caught them, they seemed to glow.
They almost looked like tiny drops of blood trapped inside the black metal.
The craftsmanship was delicate. Every curve had been carefully shaped, and even the smallest details had clearly been made with care.
Anna’s eyes immediately lit up when she saw it.
"Oh, Victor! It’s beautiful!"
She took the hairpin from his hand.
She barely gave herself a moment to admire it before slipping it into her hair. Her fingers moved carefully as she adjusted it, making sure it sat just right.
Once she was satisfied, she turned toward him.
"How does it look?"
Victor looked at her for a moment.
Then a warm smile spread across his face.
"Gorgeous, Mother. You’re always gorgeous."
Anna’s expression softened.
There was a hint of happiness in her eyes.
She stepped closer and suddenly pulled him into a tight hug.
"You’re such a thoughtful son."
Victor let out a quiet laugh.
He wrapped his arms around her and hugged her back.
"I’m glad you like it."
Anna held him for another moment before finally letting go.
She reached up and touched the hairpin again.
A small, satisfied smile appeared on her face.
For Clara, Victor had chosen a purple silk scarf.
The moment she unfolded it, the smooth fabric slipped gently between her fingers.
It was soft and light.
Elegant embroidery ran along the edges, with every pattern carefully stitched into the silk.
Clara looked over the details for a few seconds.
Her fingers lightly traced the embroidered edge.
Then she wrapped the scarf around her neck.
She adjusted it once.
Then again.
Finally, she tilted her head slightly and looked at Victor.
"You have excellent taste, my dear nephew."
Before Victor could answer, Clara leaned forward and kissed his cheek.
Her lips were soft and warm against his skin.
Victor smiled.
"Thank you, Aunt. I had a feeling it would suit you."
Clara looked down at the scarf.
She adjusted it one last time.
Then she admired herself for a moment.
A pleased smile slowly appeared on her lips.
"Of course it does," she said confidently. "I look beautiful in everything."
Anna immediately rolled her eyes.
"Modest as always, Clara."
Clara laughed.
"What can I say? Modesty is for people who have something to be modest about."
Anna stared at her for a moment.
Clara simply smiled back.
Eventually, Anna shook her head with an amused expression.
"You really haven’t changed."
"And why would I?" Clara replied.
Her smile only grew wider.
For Rias, Victor had chosen something a little more delicate.
A red jade earpiece.
The jade was smooth and cool against the fingertips. A faint glow seemed to linger beneath its surface whenever the light touched it.
Rias stared at it.
For several seconds, she didn’t say anything.
Her fingers slowly closed around the earpiece.
Something in her expression changed.
The usual composure in her eyes softened.
A rare smile appeared on her lips.
"Victor..."
Her voice was quiet.
"This is beautiful."
Victor smiled.
"I’m glad you like it, Sister-in-law."
Rias looked at the earpiece again.
She seemed genuinely touched by the gift.
Then she stepped closer.
Without saying anything else, she wrapped her arms around him and pulled him into a gentle embrace.
"Thank you, Victor."
Her voice was soft against his shoulder.
"This means a lot to me."
Victor was slightly surprised.
He hadn’t expected such an affectionate reaction from her.
For a brief moment, he simply stood there.
Then he smiled and returned the embrace.
"You’re welcome, Sister-in-law Rias."
His voice was warm and sincere.
"I’m glad you like it."
When they finally pulled apart, Clara let out a soft chuckle.
"Look at you, Victor. You’re making all of us emotional."
Anna nodded.
"He’s always been thoughtful. Even when he was little."
Clara looked at Victor with a teasing smile.
"So, Victor..."
She deliberately dragged out the words.
"Did you meet anyone interesting while you were in the city?"
Victor immediately became cautious.
He already knew that tone.
"Just some friendly locals," he answered carefully. "They showed us around."
Clara narrowed her eyes.
"Friendly locals?"
She paused.
Then her smile widened.
"Or friendly local women?"
"Aunt! Please!"
Victor’s cheeks immediately turned red.
Anna covered her mouth, but the laughter still escaped.
"Clara, stop teasing him."
"I’m only asking."
Clara looked Victor over from head to toe.
"My nephew has grown into quite a handsome young man. I’m sure he gets plenty of attention."
Victor sighed.
"Can we please talk about something else?"
Rias was still holding the red jade earpiece in her hand.
She glanced at Victor.
A faint smile appeared on her lips.
"I might make an exception for you, little brother-in-law."
Victor stared at her.
For a moment, he looked genuinely stunned.
Then his eyes widened dramatically.
"I think I just died and went to heaven."
The women burst into laughter.
Clara laughed the loudest.
Even Rias couldn’t hold back her smile.
Their laughter spread through the garden.
It slipped between the trees and drifted into the peaceful evening air.
For a little while, nothing else mattered.
There were no cultivation techniques.
No dangerous battles.
No enemies waiting beyond the walls.
No worries about what tomorrow might bring.
There was only family.
Only warmth.
Only laughter.
Victor quietly looked around at everyone.
A small smile settled on his face.
Moments like this were rare.
Perhaps that was why they felt so precious.
The treasures he had brought back from the city were valuable.
But none of them could compare to this.
Anna looked at him fondly.
"Victor, you’re going to spoil us all."
