Super Soldier in the City

Chapter 2817 - 2879: Still Want to Sleep in My Bed

  • Next Chapter

Li Yifei definitely didn’t take money to advertise. Although some people might question him, does he really care? With over ten million followers, even if tens of thousands go to watch, the box office will increase. If hundreds of thousands go, well, the box office... The distributor didn’t expect Li Yifei to endorse the movie for free, and many official online celebrities helped with the promotion for free this time too.

This was a profound lesson in patriotism, and not the annoying kind. As a firsthand experiencer, what’s wrong with Li Yifei sharing it? Who could possibly object?

Many of his fans were caught between laughter and tears. Several marketing accounts begged for mercy, yet Li Yifei didn’t respond. Instead, he posted this, which made them feel even more anxious. As a matter of fact, Li Yifei wasn’t even aware of these issues, and even if he was, he wouldn’t forgive them. The lawyer should remain a lawyer, and reporting to the authorities should still happen.

Someone has to do things like this, to give those marketing accounts a sense of limits so they know what they should and shouldn’t do. What they shouldn’t do, they absolutely mustn’t, or it’ll backfire on them.

Simply put, Li Yifei is teaching them the meaning of ’bottom line.’ It’s fine to make money, especially in the booming Internet economy today, opportunities are abundant. Finding reasonable and legal ways to earn is admirable. But if the money earned is dirty, one’s hands will be stained. When no knife cuts them off so they reflect deeply, people will only get worse, increasingly corrupt.

So the blow should be delivered by Li Yifei. After all, someone needs to do it.

Unfortunately, those marketing accounts haven’t figured it out yet. They don’t even feel they’ve done anything wrong, just that they had bad luck crossing someone like Li Yifei, who doesn’t play by the rules and flips easily.

Initially, they even thought of extorting Li Yifei, getting him to pay them off so they wouldn’t slander him. But alas, Li Yifei is Li Yifei, and luckily for them, they didn’t speak up. Otherwise, Li Yifei might not have spared even them in real life.

Back to the movie, because Li Yifei had seen it with his own eyes and experienced it himself, he truly believed it was good and recommended it to everyone, so he didn’t see any problem with it.

The officials might have gotten permission because, a few hours later, the largest official media outlet wrote an article titled "’Lanchang’: The Story Behind Reality, Why We Are Moved to Tears."

The article initially didn’t gain much attention as the official media had only around two million followers, not a lot, but those who read the article were deeply shocked. The article restored the true cases and wrote about the real-life experiencers. The names were unfamiliar to everyone, but there was one name that made many widen their eyes—Li Yifei, who turned out to be the captain of the Flying Hawk Squad.

These three words and the title following left many wide-eyed, finding it incredible. The name Li Yifei might be ordinary, but some immediately thought of the veteran on Twitter. Could he be the real person behind this identity? Was this shocking case that stunned Huaxia and the world handled by him and his team?

My God, this realization made people exclaim in disbelief. Could he really be one of the heroes back then, capturing the bandits amid gunfire, apprehending drug dealers alive to be brought back to Huaxia for trial?

Many who finished reading the article were again moved to tears. These were hidden truths that, if not told by the officials or filmed into movies, ordinary people might never know.

You can enjoy your life and complain about the mundane peace because a group of people is silently protecting you in the shadows.

The term "veteran" is incredibly fitting. Even retired, he continues doing good.

"Impressive! Truly impressive, no doubt, the veteran is my idol. None of those BOYS can compare." Said an excited elementary school student, and not just in name, but truly an elementary school student.

Praises kept flowing in. Of course, some began to ’retaliate,’ like those who always criticize that Huaxia isn’t good here and there, who started vehemently attacking Li Yifei, the media, and this movie.

These people have sinister motives but are not to be worried about because although they try to influence some, fortunately, people aren’t fools, and they can’t be easily swayed.

Li Yifei didn’t expect the official media to release such an article. In reality, he was already not that low-profile. If this official announcement were further stirred, he indeed couldn’t remain low-key. But thinking about it, Li Yifei nodded slightly. Such an article coming from the officials ensures, if nothing else, his safety. He’s very safe because it’s an official position, proving that the Li family, or he personally, has some presence with the leaders, as the officials are vouching for him. Establishing a hero isn’t as easy as before; it’s cautious now. Once a hero is established, the officials won’t slap their own face.

From this perspective, it’s a good thing and quite unexpected.

However, it’s also a bad thing. If Li Yifei wants to live so truthfully, he has to pay a certain price. To many, a hero should be perfect, at least the older generation sees it so. So if Li Yifei does something image-damaging now, those people might jump up. Yet, the new generation is more forgiving. They know nobody’s perfect. A veteran is a veteran, a hero, yet can be domineering sometimes, especially since he has another identity—a billionaire. How many billionaires are there in Huaxia? Perhaps not many.

For this reason, many went to buy movie tickets, making the film sold-out in major city cinemas for the day and even for the next week, it was a hit. Many admired the director, actors, and screenwriters’ abilities, paired with the official article, understanding the hardships behind it.

In summary, it’s excellent patriotic education. If it can make the younger generation more patriotic, Li Yifei is willing to lend his name.

Back to reality, Li Yifei and Wu Shuwei, after watching the movie, went to a supposedly famous dessert shop and enjoyed some delightful sweets. It’s something Wu Shuwei usually didn’t eat much, and Li Yifei even less so. But tonight, they indulged. Sweets can improve moods, and after learning more about Li Yifei, Wu Shuwei felt even more moved than his fans. This man was complex yet simple. Complex, due to Li Yifei’s past, his unpredictable skills, and his indescribable aura; simple because Li Yifei, till now, maintains a childlike innocence in facing certain matters, making him particularly ’real,’ unlike others who are hypocritical.

A genuine person tends to be likable, and that included Wu Shuwei. Sitting face to face, their eyes met, and Wu Shuwei smiled gently. At this point, she confirmed the emotions in her heart. Having passed thirty, she’d matured and understood her feelings. She avoided them before because of past hurts, and also due to Li Yifei’s status and situation. If she were to be with him, it would require adjusting her principles—for instance, sharing Li Yifei with other women, a notion Wu Shuwei found herself unable to accept.

Of course, this was her previous thought. These days of close companionship, even sharing the same bed—though sleeping separately—changed Wu Shuwei’s mindset. She understood Li Yifei better and found herself falling deeper.

"Is there something on my face?" Li Yifei couldn’t help asking.

Wu Shuwei snapped back to reality, shook her head, and said, "No, nothing really."

"Then what’s up? Do I look particularly good today?"

"How could that be, you’re not a woman."

"Men can be described as good-looking too, right!"

Wu Shuwei rolled her eyes at him, saying, "Don’t get cocky, you’re not good-looking; I’m just... thinking you deserve all you have for what you’ve done."

Li Yifei didn’t quite grasp her meaning at first but nodded anyway, saying, "It’s already more than enough, money, fame, love, family, enjoyment!"

"Yes, that’s right, especially with so many beauties."

"Hehe, in that regard... I’m very satisfied!" Li Yifei couldn’t help but laugh.

"Alright, I’m full, let’s go." Wu Shuwei said as she picked up her bag. Li Yifei also got up to follow her out. Once outside, the night was a bit chilly. Seeing Wu Shuwei tighten her coat, Li Yifei reached out and held her slightly cool hand.

Wu Shuwei flinched slightly, a bit nervous, then relaxed and allowed it.

Strolling through the night, the two gradually walked closer. After a while, they decided to catch a cab back to school but found it difficult to find one at that hour. After more than ten minutes with no empty cabs, they had no choice but to take the subway back.

By the time they managed to get home, two hours had passed since their outing, as their destination had been quite far.

After washing up individually, they’d usually chat on the sofa, which had become a norm for recent days. But tonight, Wu Shuwei seemed a bit bolder. She wore modest pajamas and leaned against Li Yifei’s door, simply looking at him.

Today, Li Yifei was in pajamas as well, smiling as he looked at Wu Shuwei. "What? Do you want to sleep on my bed again?"

Wu Shuwei didn’t glare as she used to. Instead, a slight smile appeared on her lips. Li Yifei felt a stirring in his heart, approached her softly and said, "If you feel cold, why not sleep here tonight? You sleep in yours, and I in mine, we can chat comfortably."
