Then it must be in her nature; the nature of this woman is good, so she carries a light about her.

Since both sides had reached an understanding, and the old lady’s son had apologized and returned the eight thousand yuan Brother Hu had advanced, there was no need for them to stay in the hospital any longer. After all, this wasn’t the hospital where Wang Yaxin worked.

The police who had come on the call also left, and Brother Hu and Wang Yaxin walked out of the hospital to the parking lot. He raised his wrist to look at the time; it was already past four in the afternoon. Brother Hu then said, "Doctor... um... do you have anything to do later? If not, how about we have dinner together."

"Just call me Wang Yaxin. No need for dinner, and I’m really grateful for your help today; otherwise, I would’ve felt uncomfortable standing in the sun." Holding a small leather bag, Wang Yaxin stood charmingly in front of Brother Hu. Facing each other, Brother Hu realized that Wang Yaxin was quite tall; even in flat shoes, she was over one meter seventy, and her legs were very long, though exactly how long, Brother Hu did not know.

Upon hearing the refusal, Brother Hu wasn’t anxious. It would be strange if she didn’t refuse, so Brother Hu quickly said, "No problem, it’s just a meal, and I must also thank you for wanting to save me that day. I coughed up blood; if not for timely treatment, my body would have been even more damaged!"

Wang Yaxin smiled and shook her head, saying, "Just take care of yourself. Some things you have to control by yourself. You can enjoy drinking, but it’s best not to overdo it; moderation is key, or else it’ll harm your body!"

Brother Hu nodded repeatedly, scratching his head with embarrassment, "I remember what you said back then, and I won’t forget. Not to hide from you, since then, I’ve quit smoking and drinking. I haven’t touched them till now!"

Hearing Brother Hu say so, Wang Yaxin was quite surprised. She had some impression of Brother Hu, but it wasn’t a good one. As a doctor, she encounters many patients daily, so she can’t remember everyone, especially after so long. But Brother Hu’s case of gastric bleeding due to excessive drinking at that time was unforgettable, especially since dozens of his subordinates had brought him to the hospital, blocking the entrance of the emergency room. Wang Yaxin specially instructed the nurses to drive them out.

Back then, while treating him, Wang Yaxin couldn’t help but think that this person didn’t look like a decent man, given so many subordinates; he wasn’t something the average mob boss could describe. Such a person... she decided to save, though, because she didn’t know what he had done, and a doctor’s job isn’t to do what the police do.

After saving him, out of professional habit, she sternly warned him, never expecting that he actually listened and quit smoking and drinking.

She couldn’t tell about the drinking, but on the way over in Brother Hu’s car earlier, she didn’t smell any smoke inside the car or on Brother Hu, making his words quite credible, which surprised Wang Yaxin.

Her words... he really listened to them; this was genuinely unexpected. She looked at Brother Hu with some delight and asked, "Did you really quit?"

Brother Hu patted his chest and said, "Of course, I quit. I won’t relapse in the future. A man’s word is his bond. So, I want to thank you, Dr. Wang, for pulling me back from the Grim Reaper. Otherwise, given my work’s social demands, I couldn’t have quit smoking and drinking unless I was determined. But now it’s nice; my throat feels much better since quitting smoking. Otherwise, it hurt every morning when I got up, and it’s the same with drinking; I don’t feel groggy every day, and it feels much better. Now, I drink tea and play sports with friends during my free time, much healthier than before."

Wang Yaxin nodded appreciatively and said, "That’s truly commendable. I hope you can keep it up in the future. If you have time, go for a medical check-up to see your health condition. Running every day can make you sweat and help you sleep well at night."

"No problem; I’ll open a gym soon for convenience," Brother Hu said happily, and quickly explained, "Um... I’m not showing off, I don’t mean to. What you said is true: one’s health is their own, and one must cherish it. Otherwise, when problems arise, regretting is useless."

Wang Yaxin knew Brother Hu wasn’t an ordinary person and had a significantly changed perception of him. However, seeing him drive a car worth over a million and then casually talk about opening a gym suggested he was quite wealthy, so she didn’t want to speak much more and said, "It’s getting late; I should head home, or else my mom will worry."

"Ah, let me give you a ride. I mean no offense, just want to invite you to dinner; you see, I’m not good with words!" Brother Hu quickly said.

In the end, Wang Yaxin agreed to let Brother Hu drive her home. Although there was a bit of regret, at least he knew where she lived, which made Brother Hu quite happy. He drove cautiously all the way, sending Wang Yaxin back home, stopped the car, and walked her to the entrance of the community. Only when Wang Yaxin’s figure disappeared did Brother Hu turn around, feeling a hint of melancholy, thinking that it might have been better if they could have had dinner together.

"Xingxin Community!" Brother Hu remembered the name, afraid he’d forget, so he took out his phone to note it down. It was the second meeting for both of them; Brother Hu knew her name, workplace, and even which community she lived in, but that wasn’t crucial. Brother Hu had many such friends, even more well known ones. However, the third meeting made Brother Hu determined to pursue her.

Brother Hu didn’t know if there would be a third meeting. After all, the provincial capital was large with a huge population, and their lives might not intersect. Wang Yaxin mostly worked and went home after work, occasionally hanging out with friends, with not much other activities. Brother Hu was... very busy indeed, from morning till night, sometimes continuously. He had opened several shops; though there were managers and subordinates to look after them—oh, no longer called subordinates, everyone was a partner. Brother Hu understood the principle of sharing the spoils with everyone. The brothers who had followed him for so many years had their stories too, so everyone should earn money together.

It was easy to say, but hard to do, and so it tired him out, considering the many people and places he had to take care of and the various engagements.

Despite keeping Wang Yaxin in his thoughts, Brother Hu didn’t take the initiative to seek her out. Having encountered countless women, few could truly astonish him.

Time passed in a flash. One day, a relative visited; they too lived in the provincial capital. Though the two families hadn’t had much contact before, the other side didn’t acknowledge someone like Brother Hu, no matter how well he did. They didn’t want to associate with someone in his prior line of work. But now that Brother Hu had turned his life around—what they called returned to the right path—many relatives were open to reconnecting and socializing.

The relative came to visit and directly suggested introducing someone to Brother Hu, saying that at his age, it was high time to settle down, so they were kindly offering to introduce someone.

With such matters, Brother Hu usually declined because, before, he had plenty of women around him, from every age and type, so there was no need to ’eat from the pot nearby’. If relatives introduced someone, that person would likely also be a relative or friend, and things could get complicated if they didn’t work out, leading to gossip. While Brother Hu didn’t mind the talk, his family could not tolerate it.

However, the person being introduced caught Brother Hu’s interest. He was about to refuse when he heard the introduced person was a doctor. Hearing "doctor," Brother Hu paused, instinctively reaching for a cigarette, but his pocket was empty. Only then did he remember he had quit smoking, so he didn’t get up and leave.

Seeing hope, the relative quickly said, "She’s a doctor, a genuine doctor, and she’s pretty. We’ve met her once; she’s lovely. If Huzi matches with her, they’ll be a perfect couple!"

A perfect match indeed, Brother Hu thought without showing it, though suddenly finding the idea of a doctor intriguing, he said, "Third Aunt, go on."

"Oh? Is it rare that we have Huzi interested? How about this: I’ll arrange something for you two, let’s have a meal together, and you could get to know each other," the relative suggested quickly.

Brother Hu hurriedly gestured, "No, Third Aunt, please, don’t rush. We don’t even know each other; I’m just curious. How could I refuse such enthusiasm!"

"It’s a good match, for sure. The girl’s family is ordinary, but her parents are decent folks. They only have this one daughter; no other aspirations but to see her well-settled. Now with Huzi having achieved so much, being a big restaurant boss, he’s certainly deserving of someone like her!"

"At my age, finding someone similar in age would be more suitable!" Brother Hu remarked.

"Well, there is an age difference, but these days capable men often look for younger partners, and that’s normal. I don’t think the other side would be too picky either; it’s tough to find a reliable son-in-law nowadays. There are wealthy people in the provincial capital, but none like Huzi, so let’s settle it. I’ll get in touch with them; we’ll arrange a meeting."

Brother Hu wanted to refuse, but his parents had already taken an interest. Given his age, they felt it was right to look into it. Since their son was finally curious about someone, this opportunity was worth exploring. Thus, the meeting was set up.

Brother Hu initially declined because it clashed with his way of doing things. Moreover, just because the other party was a doctor didn’t mean he liked the profession; his thoughts wandered to Wang Yaxin when he inquired.

Just like that, the plan was settled. Two days later, Third Aunt contacted Brother Hu and his parents, asking them to prepare, choose a nice restaurant, and arrange a face-to-face meeting. Whether it worked out or not, a meeting was necessary; if it did work out, it would be a happy occasion.
