Super Soldier in the City
Chapter 2730 - 2792: Female Doctor
As for Brother Hu and the much younger female doctor’s story, that’s a tale for later. That time in the emergency room can only be considered an encounter. Brother Hu was truly awakened by her scolding. Her tone wasn’t nice, but it was all for his own good. Especially when Brother Hu thought about how he had given up the underworld, finally started something decent, opened a restaurant, got into business, and life took a turn; how could he easily give up? His health hadn’t been great over the years, so if something were to happen again, just when everything was getting better, it would be completely unworthy.
Besides, smoking and drinking aren’t good to begin with, not worth touching, so after discharge, he immediately quit. In Brother Hu’s own words, the addiction to things like smoking and drinking is indeed big, but it can be divided into physical and psychological. The physical aspect is easier to overcome, but the psychological craving is harder to beat. Sometimes it indeed makes one fretful, but more often it’s a demonstration of self-control. So when he says he quit, he really did.
According to Brother Hu’s bragging to his underlings, he said that there’s nothing he can’t quit; if you can’t quit, it means you never really wanted to. Except for food, everything else can be given up.
However, as it turned out, he broke his word first because when Brother Hu encountered the female doctor the second time, he felt he had fallen in love. It was a chance meeting on the street when Brother Hu went to buy holiday gifts for his parents. It was midday, the sun was blazing—not just bright, but dazzling—because it was already summer, and at noon, how could it not be hot, especially in an unobscured area.
With his bald head just out of the mall, he saw a crowd gathering in the square ahead. Watching a scene is instinctive and natural, and Brother Hu was no exception, so he walked over, holding a few things in his hand. As he approached, he heard a woman in the crowd shout, "Spread out a bit, there’s no air, hurry!"
Brother Hu frowned, wondering what happened. The onlookers gradually dispersed, and Brother Hu moved closer, seeing a fashionably dressed woman with long hair and a long skirt kneeling on the ground, holding an elderly lady in her arms. The old lady was white-haired but had already fainted. Due to the angle, Brother Hu couldn’t see clearly nor understand what happened, but he was deeply impressed by the woman—one of the most notable people recently—because it wasn’t anyone else but the female doctor who had made Brother Hu quit smoking and drinking. Her words woke him up and basically saved Brother Hu’s health. Brother Hu’s eyes widened and he quickly rushed over, saying, "What happened here?"
The onlookers and the female doctor looked over. The female doctor had no reaction, but the spectators quickly exclaimed, "The old lady suddenly fainted, we don’t know what’s going on."
"Did anyone call for an ambulance?" Brother Hu quickly asked, instinctively reaching for his phone.
"Yes, just called!" The people around said, and Brother Hu nodded, just about to say something to the female doctor, when he saw her lay the old lady flat on the ground and continue chest compressions. However, the elderly woman wasn’t responding, so the doctor immediately leaned in to perform artificial respiration...
Watching this series of actions made Brother Hu’s eyes twitch. From his perspective, he might lend a hand to help if he could, but when it comes to performing artificial respiration on such an elderly, seemingly dirty person, he’d likely refuse. Whether or not he could perform artificial respiration, Brother Hu would probably shake his head; yet the female doctor didn’t hesitate at all, seeming to assess that the old lady was in shock and having trouble breathing, requiring immediate simple cleaning.
Brother Hu felt profoundly shocked watching this. He suddenly thought the female doctor was incredibly beautiful—not just her looks, but her heart. It’s the kind of person he used to see in stories and news, and now in reality, there she was, especially being so young. Given Brother Hu’s age, he certainly saw her as a young girl, thus he was stunned.
As a former badass, thug, **** boss, Brother Hu’s world probably had little to do with rescue and helping others. Seeing the female doctor act like this, Brother Hu was sincerely moved, not only emotionally touched but immediately walked over, grabbed an umbrella from a bystander, and held it above the female doctor and the old woman. After all, with the heat so high, good people under the sun would feel uncomfortable, so Brother Hu decided to do something: he couldn’t provide first aid, perform chest compressions, or do artificial respiration, so holding an umbrella it was, providing shade for the old woman and for the respectable female doctor. That’s the least Brother Hu could do.
Under normal circumstances, it wouldn’t take 120 (emergency service) more than ten minutes to reach there; however, that day it was delayed for a full twenty minutes. Fortunately, with emergency treatment, the old woman’s breathing smoothed out, and her heartbeat returned. Otherwise, when 120 arrived, they’d have taken away a corpse.
Brother Hu helped lift her into the 120 vehicle, watching it about to leave, and urgently pulled the female doctor, saying, "Get in my car!"
"Huh?" the female doctor was taken aback, a hint of panic in her eyes, looking down where Brother Hu was holding.
"Sorry!" Brother Hu immediately let go, apologizing, explaining, "It’s better for the old lady to not go alone; she might not have the money. I brought a card, let’s go pay first instead of delaying further treatment."
Upon hearing this, the female doctor eased, saying, "Okay, let’s go then."
Brother Hu, carrying bought items, quickly retrieved his car from the parking lot, headed to the hospital where the ambulance was going, and paid eight thousand yuan for the old woman. Brother Hu wasn’t distressed about this money at all; even if he lost it, it was fine. Eight thousand yuan nonetheless, letting him meet the female doctor; he’d spend eighty thousand gladly. Along the way, the two conversed a bit, allowing Brother Hu to get to know the female doctor and learn her name—Wang Yaxin. A very nice name, at least Brother Hu liked it. He praised her extensively; however, the female doctor, Wang Yaxin, merely said it was her duty, studying and working this field, and encountering such situations, one must take action. Brother Hu was full of admiration.
After paying at the hospital, Brother Hu was about to leave when Wang Yaxin called him back, saying it was better to wait for the patient’s family. After all, eight thousand yuan wasn’t small, and settling it face-to-face would be best, especially since the old lady’s family had been notified and promised to come quickly.
Things didn’t go smoothly. Brother Hu had been a thug for half his life, done many unorthodox things, never expecting that after cleaning up, he would be bullied by the old lady’s family. The old lady was over seventy; her son was about fifty. Arriving and immediately grabbing Brother Hu by the collar, his mouth foul, spewing insults, demanding compensation, claiming that he and the female doctor hit the old lady. The attitude on the phone was decent, but upon arrival at the hospital, it turned aggressive.
Brother Hu was a bit dazed; after all, he was a true delinquent, yet the opposite party was being unreasonable to him. If it had been his previous temper, Brother Hu wouldn’t let the old lady’s son off easily. But with a hospital setting and the female doctor beside him, he didn’t retaliate.
The female doctor showed her work ID, explaining the situation beside him, while the lady’s grandson directly pushed, knocking the female doctor down hard. Brother Hu was furious at once, kicking the father and son down to the ground, coldly saying, "Have you no shame? Your mother nearly died; we kindly saved her and brought her to the hospital, and this is how you respond?"
"Pay up; if you don’t, no one leaves without paying. You must’ve hit her, that’s why my mom almost died!" The old lady’s son yelled from the ground, his shouting drawing in hospital security and quickly the police.
For such hooligans, one shouldn’t be lenient. While the old lady was under treatment, her son and grandson were causing a scene, adamantly accusing Brother Hu and the female doctor of being the culprits. Brother Hu and the female doctor each wrote statements; the police also visited the scene by the mall entrance, took statements from a few people, and checked the surveillance footage there, which showed the old lady falling by herself. She was down for a whole two minutes; no one passing by paid her any mind, with many people merely curiously looking before quickly leaving. It wasn’t until the female doctor approached that anyone stopped to help, and Brother Hu appeared at the scene a minute later.
The video clearly demonstrated that both Brother Hu and the female doctor were acting out of kindness, contrary to what the old lady’s son claimed. The footage debunked his claims in front of everyone. If it were up to Brother Hu, the old lady’s son and grandson should definitely be detained, at least locked up for a few days, as they were deliberately framing them. Their characters were quite problematic.
However, Wang Yaxin pleaded for them, arguing that perhaps these people weren’t intentionally malicious. After all, their mother had suddenly suffered an incident; their reaction wasn’t considered unreasonable. Brother Hu felt that if such behavior wasn’t unreasonable, then would picking up a knife to attack be unreasonable? Of course, he kept this thought to himself, not voicing it.
Being a doctor, Wang Yaxin had her own professional ethics, and in response to the behavior of the old lady’s son and grandson, she chose forgiveness rather than having the police take them away. Consideration was also given to the old lady’s need for care; Brother Hu didn’t object, but he didn’t care much about those two grandsons. At worst, he thought of finding someone to deal with them later, though soon dismissed the thought—he had cleaned up now, and such small matters shouldn’t be blown up.
Reflecting on it, he truly admired Wang Yaxin’s approach, seeming as though her thinking was on a level above Brother Hu’s. Watching Wang Yaxin, Brother Hu felt she glowed, his gaze softening.
Brother Hu wasn’t a wooden person; he knew he had developed a deep interest in the female doctor, Wang Yaxin. However, he had encountered many people before, understanding that some people can fake things. On second thought, it seemed too mean to think like that; after all, they were strangers—the first encounter was regarding his health issues, and the second was a happenstance rescue. There was no need for her to pretend, nor possible for her to be pretending all the time.
