Chapter 1772: Secret
Chapter 1772: Secret
"I’m planning to turn familiars into gods."
"What?" Gregory felt like he had just heard something absurd.
"You heard it correctly. I’m planning to turn familiars, who are close to godhood, into gods." Nathan nodded calmly as though this wasn’t the first time he had done it. "To be precise, I’m helping them to forge their divine bodies. As for the details..."
"No, my lord..." Gregory raised his hand, asking Nathan to stop. He suddenly covered his ears while saying, "I think I need to cover my ears..."
"You’re worried about that?" Nathan chuckled.
"I do want to witness your power, but... I feel like I might end up blabbering it in the future. I don’t know if I will do it directly, but I think I won’t be conscious enough when I reveal your secret."
Nathan smiled. In a way, Gregory was like a perfect vassal. He wanted to witness his power, but he was worried that he might slip up. Sometimes, the little detail made the difference.
Gregory had been following his tasks without many questions and giving results.
This time, Gregory was afraid that the secret was not safe if he knew about it.
After all, this fact was too ridiculous. Nathan, a mortal, said to him that he could grant godhood to a familiar.
All this time, the method to evolve familiar was quite unknown. They gave them herbs, believing in their potential. After doing everything, the familiars might get lucky and evolve.
However, no one could exactly tell the exact requirements.
"So, you still want to witness everything? Well, there is a way."
"A way?" Gregory looked at Nathan, curious about this method. If there were a way, he truly wanted to witness it.
"Yep." Nathan formed another Soul Contract. "This is my innate ability. You have seen it, right? This time, the contract will be written in a way that if you reveal my information, directly or indirectly, you will die, body and soul.
"This will prevent even someone who is trying to extract your memories or search your soul."
Gregory’s eyes brightened. If this method worked, he would obviously like to do it.
For Gregory, the pursuit of knowledge was definitely something that was worth dying for.
It was fine if he ended up dying because of it. In the first place, he became a doctor and even helped the merchant group so that he could use that money to seek the truth.
However, his conscience remained, so he never exactly did unethical business. It caused his friend to betray him.
Still, Gregory thought this might be fine. If he couldn’t reveal anything even indirectly, the secret would be safe.
He knew that this kind of knowledge shouldn’t be published.
Nathan said, "Of course, there might be an incident where you don’t even realize you’re revealing a secret. Hence, there will be a period of warning."
Nathan showed the contract to him. "What do you think?"
Gregory looked at the contract carefully and asked, "How do I sign it?"
Nathan raised his thumb and made a biting motion, gesturing for him to bite his thumb and use the blood to give a print.
Gregory followed his instructions without hesitation. Looking at his thumbprint, Gregory was satisfied. The contract then disappeared as though it had been activated.
"Now the contract is active. You can try revealing one of my secrets if you don’t trust the contract."
Gregory smiled wryly. On the one hand, testing it was just the basics. On the other hand, not trusting the contract meant not trusting Nathan.
Still, Nathan wasn’t someone who would be bothered by this small thinking.
So, Gregory said, "My lord can transform a familiar—khhhh!"
Gregory suddenly fell to his knees while clutching his chest. There was a sharp pain as though a blade pressed his heart.
"Now, do you feel at ease?" Nathan smiled, extending his hand.
Gregory didn’t know what to say. He felt relieved, but it made him look like he was relieved because he felt pain. It made him a masochist.
Gregory sighed with a smile before taking Nathan’s hand. "Yes, my lord."
Nathan nodded. "Let’s go."
Nathan led him a bit further and formed two contracts.
The first contract was meant to transfer the energy. The second contract was the container that Nathan had prepared. Nathan had carefully written this contract so that it would resemble the real situation as much as possible.
What they wanted to see was the energy after the Soul Contract.
His familiars looked at him carefully.
"Are you guys ready?" Nathan asked. Since no one said anything because they were too focused, Nathan activated the contract. "Okay. Let’s begin the test."
As soon as the first contract was activated, the energy from the alien started to flow into the first contract.
Because the alien was dead and the black cell had been removed, this energy didn’t belong to them anymore. In fact, this energy would gradually disappear after some time.
Since it didn’t have an owner anymore, the energy flowed into the first contract before flowing to the second contract that acted like the familiar.
Everyone observed the energy carefully. The process itself didn’t take a long time, as the familiar was supposed to start its evolution this time.
"So?" Nathan asked, raising his head.
Tiamat explained, "I could see that the energy had become pure. The will inside it has been erased."
Anubis and Xolotl nodded in agreement. "There is no soul in it."
Garuda added, "This pure energy is filled with karma instead... A very pure one. We might have to remove the karma."
"Remove the karma?" Nathan raised his eyebrows.
"It’s understandable. Karma is the most mysterious power in this world. It is better to remove it. This karma belongs to either the alien or the black cell. Even though we have removed the will, we might not be able to see through the karma," explained Tiamat.
"Oh!" Nathan nodded in agreement. "I think I can do that. It’s better to use my karma than theirs."
"Yes. It looks like we can use this to forge the divine body." Fenrir smiled.
