Chapter 1657: Promises
Chapter 1657: Promises
Now that they had divided the team, they immediately began to work. They cleared up the ash cloud from this continent.
Even though this continent was much closer to the source, the speed of the expansion had decreased significantly so that it would be fine to completely remove them. The maintenance wouldn’t be a lot of work either.
So, Nathan and his team swept the entire sky clean. Of course, Nathan and Evelyn didn’t forget to announce their presence to the people around, harvesting their karma.
Unfortunately, even though the empire and the dynasty covered more area, due to the food shortage, they had a smaller population than Gratzel.
After all, Nathan had only come to this continent after handling all the problems in Gratzel.
Nevertheless, the amount of karma they managed to harvest was extremely high.
Although Nathan didn’t know whether it was enough or not, he knew that all this karma would be significant for their future improvement.
Since everyone had improved their power in the past few months, they managed to clean the sky faster compared to their job in Gratzel.
It gave them some time to actually stroll around the continent.
Half of the girls hadn’t gone to this continent after all.
Unfortunately, Nathan could only accompany them for a day. He still had another job.
For the sake of fairness, the empire and the dynasty had asked Nathan and Evelyn to establish a hundred teleportation circles in their territory.
These teleportation circles shouldn’t be connected to the other country because they were worried the teleportation circles would be used to send spies or other troublesome features.
However, the two nations had agreed to a truce. Currently, the world is in danger. They didn’t know whether the two nations could even face off against such a threat.
First, they established a joint defense pact for a year. They wanted to make sure that the threat Nathan mentioned was real.
If the army truly came to them, they would extend this contract to ten to twenty years, depending on the severity of the threat.
This way, the two nations would be working hand-in-hand for the sake of survival.
Their rivalry didn’t matter if they were dead.
So, they had to do it.
Evelyn would establish the teleportation circles in the dynasty, while Nathan helped the empire due to his closer relationship with Regina.
Of course, whenever they established it in a city, the lord of the city would be announcing it.
Nathan had revealed the cost and the maintenance. It was not low, but compared to the benefits they would receive from the teleportation circles, this cost could easily be ignored.
Nathan and Evelyn added a few layers of protection so that no one could destroy them. Even if they could, they would take time to learn how to destroy it. This way, the people on this continent would have time to study the teleportation circle and create one for themselves.
Still, it would be impossible for them to create a teleportation circle that could connect the two continents. They would need divinity to do that.
The two nations placed about 70 circles in all major cities they possessed. This meant a lord would most likely have one.
They placed 10 more for military use. The empire planned to create an academy for the soldiers. It seemed they wanted to create a whole city for military uses and sent the soldiers trained in this academy to the front line.
It only took one teleportation circle, so the rest of the circles were scattered across the front lines, allowing them to have a stable supply of soldiers and military equipment.
The remaining twenty circles were placed in strategic areas. Some were placed in an already established area, while the others were planted in places most likely used for new nobles.
The last part allowed Nathan to know that these two nations were not just narrow-minded superpowers that only thought about their immediate benefits. There could be more nobles who were established for their contributions or other things.
The two nations planned to send them there with this benefit, allowing them to develop the lands on their behalf.
At the very least, Nathan believed the two nations wouldn’t fall to the aliens for the next few decades unless something extraordinary happened.
These two conditions had been paid in advance. Nathan didn’t worry that the two nations would renege on their promises because this agreement was established under his Soul Contract.
The two emperors wouldn’t play around with an innate ability. After all, Nathan also gave them a severe penalty that would prevent them from playing around with the contract.
It was so severe that taking the lives of the two emperors would be considered small.
Because of Qilin, Kun, and Mae, he gained an understanding of the nation’s luck. If Nathan actually stole this luck, the nation would most likely fall.
This would happen if they reneged on their promises.
The two nations obviously understood what it implied. For a dynasty, the Erwih family wouldn’t be the only one to fall from grace. The dynasty might end up dissolving, and a civil war would happen.
Even if someone won and became the next leader, they wouldn’t be able to rule it until the national fortune recovered.
For the empire, a rebellion would probably happen. The imperial family precisely knew that it could happen at any time. There could be many reasons. The second prince was just one of them.
Still, if they followed up on their promises, nothing would happen. The people were already happy that the ash clouds had disappeared. They could repurpose the cloud-repelling device into a charging device.
People could farm again like they used to. The soil had become more fertile after this disaster. Although it would take some time before they could see results, the immediate changes could still be seen.
In addition, traveling had become easier than ever. It created many new opportunities.
Nathan and the others used the remaining time to focus on growing their strength, no matter how little it was.
Time passed, and the moment they had been waiting for had arrived.
