Chapter 105: First Major Disaster Begins
Chapter 105: First Major Disaster Begins
Large boats moved towards the various islands scattered across the Dralh Sea.
As one of the boats reached an island, the Free Humans living on the island stirred up, for they had never seen such a boat before. Mystic Humans typically used a Tratham boat to move around, which shone crimson.
“A new boat had arrived on the shore.” The first Free Human who eyed the boat from a vantage point on the island’s settlement shouted. Many Free Humans rushed to the vantage point out of curiosity.
“Are other Mystic Humans visiting our island?”
“It’ll be nice if it was someone handsome.”
“Idiot, what if it’s a Pranic Beast.”
“Which Pranic Beast travels on a boat?”
As they clamoured with all sorts of discussion, an old man pushed through the crowd, sweating from the exertion. His Ewworm had revealed itself and had coiled around his legs, following which it compressed and elongated its muscles to make the old man’s legs walk with strength.
It had taken all the strain from the action while ensuring the old man didn’t tire out.
Pushing through the crowd, the old man rushed to the very front of the vantage point and observed the boat. His eyes widened as they focused on the bald individuals who had alighted from the boat. ’No, that can’t be true.’
Staring at the long robes that dragged behind the bald individuals, the old man’s body trembled as he clutched his eyes and roared in pain, “No, not them! This isn’t true! This can’t be real!”
“NO!” He screamed in fright and lost his balance, collapsing upon the ground. Screaming in a fluster, he dragged himself away, “RUN!”
“They are the Cooter Clan Immortals!”
“The ones our previous generation endured,” A man uttered in shock, “That’s them?”
“Fuck, it’s them.” A middle-aged man with grey sideburns gasped in fear and without hesitation, rushed into the mine.
One after another, the Free Humans fled either into their homes on the surface or rushed into the mines. The older generation fled without hesitation. And the younger generation, having heard numerous stories from their elders, followed suit soon after.
“Seems we’re not welcomed here.” The team leader in charge of the Cooter Clansmen alighting at the island frowned.
“It’s not surprising, since they suffered under your rule in the past.” The Mystic Human accompanying them uttered.
“I see their lives haven’t changed in the slightest.” The team leader expressed his displeasure and pointed at the mine, “They’re still doing the exact same thing their ancestors did for thousands of years.”
“But they have hope now.” The Mystic Human argued, “Just as I and many others have done, they have a chance at becoming a Mystic Human too. Even if they can’t, their kids or grandkids might.”
“Whatever, it’s your territory anyway.” The team leader shrugged and commanded his people to disperse, “Find all traces of a Nirclick on the island and destroy them!”
“Yes, team leader!” The Cooter Clansmen dispersed into smaller teams and scoured through the island.
“What about you?” The Mystic Human asked the team leader, “Are you not going to search?”
“I will, but first,” The team leader closed his eyes and generated mist that began to spread over the island, “I intend to create a beneficial environment that boosts our abilities first.”
’This mist is strange.’ The Mystic Human thought and unleashed a Prana detection means, only to gasp in shock, ’I can’t sense anything.’
’No!’ He realised after probing a bit more, ’The Prana I release is getting consumed by the mist. It has made my detection means useless.’
The Mystic Human then noticed the team leader casually strolling about on the island, even though the visibility had dropped to zero, “How?”
’My eyes, nose, ears, and possibly even the words coming out of my mouth. It’s like I’ve lost all senses.’ The Mystic Human grabbed the team leader’s robe, leaned in on the latter and shouted, “How are you able to move?”
“This mist basically elevates our Prana detection means to the extent we can rely on it alone to receive information more detailed than what our eyes, nose, and ears can perceive.” The team leader explained, “It does place a significant strain on our skin, but there’s enough of it covering our body to disperse the strain.”
“As long as you walk within a couple metres from me, you won’t be affected.” The team leader explained, “And don’t use your powers for the time being, as you’ll only disrupt our arrangement.”
“Fine,” The Mystic Human snorted, “I’ll be seeing how the Cooter Clan operates.”
“Patience,” The team leader chuckled, “You’ll soon understand why we’re the overlords of Sumatra’s marine ecosystem.”
…
Torq sat still and watched their boat speed across the Dralh Sea, carrying a small pile of goods meant to be delivered to one of the islands.
Suddenly, a Pranic Beast jumped onto the boat, intending to gobble upon them when a vapour cone splattered it into blood mist.
“This region has become an absolute mess. There’s no sense of order here anymore.” Fanfan cursed and shouted upon seeing the blood splatter, “Boiboi!”
“On it,” Torq generated a cover of mist to block the blood splatter. Silence ensured immediately after, only broken by the bubbling water of the Dralh Sea.
’Ouch!’ Torq cursed when a droplet splashed on his face, ’It’s scalding hot!’
A tiny patch on his skin peeled off thanks to the droplet. A second later, new skin grew back. This had happened plenty of times since they began their journey as Torq was feeling more and more annoyed.
Soon, their boat approached one of the islands to transfer their goods to the larger boat anchored on the island’s shore.
“We’re here with the goods!” Fanfan shouted as two Cooter Clansmen approached their boat and used a cloud platform to carry the goods onto their ship.
“What’s the status of exploration on this island?” He asked next.
“We’ve found twenty Nirclicks so far,” The Cooter Clansman stationed on the larger boat replied while handing over an Information Slip with all the details of the exploration, “But nothing strange.”
“Okay, good work.” Fanfan nodded and then commanded his team, “We’re returning to headquarters.”
There was a small patch of damage on the boat, which Torq promptly took care of. Immediately after, the boat set sail.
Seated on the boat’s rear, Torq turned around and stared at the island while focused on the larger boat on its shores, ’There’s nothing amiss?’
’That shouldn’t be the case.’ He thought while the hand that held a needle trembled slightly, ’Based on the memories, this is close to one of those eight islands.’
The boat kept moving without any sense of disturbance. Torq kept his sight on the larger boat and when the island was almost about to disappear across the horizon, he noticed something massive crack through its surface, like a chick breaking out of its egg, but only more violently.
Casually, he turned around and acted like everything was fine, while a droplet of sweat dripped down his temples, ’Fuck! It has begun.’
’The First Major Disaster!’
