Chapter 908: Bad News
Chapter 908: Bad News
By the time Elder Milo finished speaking, various expressions had flashed on Max’s face. In the end, a calm expression settled on his face.
From what Elder Milo said, after the Inner Hall Elder, a high-stage Emperor mage, interfered to save Isolde and tried to kill him, Valerie and Sanya had burst into action.
Sanya forcefully stopped Lord Grimheart and immobilized the other Emperor Mage who was with him, giving Valerie a chance to rush over and save him.
However, Lord Grimheart had turned out to be more than Sanya could handle despite the fact that both were Early-Stage Monarchs.
Due to Sanya going all out from the start, he couldn’t stop Valerie, but just a moment later, he had broken free of Sanya’s Aura Sphere.
Then, as if he was overcome with madness, he dealt Sanya a hard blow, killing several disciples nearby at the same time. Following that, he took the advantage of Sanya trying to contain her injury, he rushed into the arena, seriously injured Valerie and was about to kill him.
Fortunately, right then, Grand Elder Rowan appeared.
Enraged by his blatant disregard of rules, innocent disciples’ lives and the fact that he was actively trying to murder another disciple in cold blood, a disciple he valued quite a bit no less, Grand Elder Rowan attacked, dealing him a serious injury before capturing him and taking him to the Core Hall Master, the true authority figure of the entire Beast Emperor Hall.
Max stayed silent for a few moments after hearing all this. He then looked at him and asked, his voice coming out lower than he intended, “Where is my wife?”
Elder Milo’s expression hardened when he heard this. Though Max’s expression was calm, he could see through it and tell Max was very anxious and even afraid now.
How could he not after hearing Lord Grimheart’s attack on Sanya had claimed several nearby disciples’ lives? After all, Rima had been sitting right next to Sanya and Valerie.
’It’s going to be troublesome.’ Elder Milo resisted the urge to rub his forehead in frustration after realizing Max really cared for his wife.
“Elder. Where is my wife?” Max asked again when Elder Milo didn’t answer, blood red veins appearing at the edges of his pupils.
Seeing Max was about to lose his mind, Elder Milo sighed and said, “She… is alive.”
As soon as he spoke…
Bang!
The bed Max was sitting on exploded into pieces which then erupted into flames before turning into black ash that floated in the room.
A suffocating atmosphere enveloped the room. Let alone the servant who was just an early-stage Three Star Mage, even Elder Milo felt the pressure in his lungs.
At the same time, they felt a chill seep into their bones. While the servant looked around in confusion, trying to locate the source of this strange chill, Elder Milo stared at Max, his pupils constricting because he knew this chill was nothing but Max’s killing intent.
’But how is this possible?!’ He couldn’t believe it. Max wasn’t releasing his killing intent at all. So, how could it manifest into this chill that affected them?
“Take me to her.” said Max, his voice calm without any ripple.
Elder Milo felt regretful inside even as he led Max out of the room and towards the place Rima was.
’I messed up. Perhaps I should have acted sad and should have told him about Rima right at the start instead of acting all cheerful.’ He thought, heaving a sigh in his heart. ’But she isn’t dead. It wouldn’t have looked good if I did that.’
’Forget it. At least I was the one who brought him out of the minor realm. This connection is enough for now.’
Normally, an Elder of Milo’s caliber trying to get closer to an Inner Hall disciple would seem odd, and him feeling regretful over a blunder that couldn’t really be called one, would seem even odder.
But…
Those who knew about Max, they would beg to differ because Max wasn’t just an Inner Hall disciple.
He was a genius who had comprehended not one, but two Laws before breaking into the Spirit Realm. He was a genius, who had successfully cast a Monarch-Level Magic Spell in the Early-Stage Five Star realm.
Either of the two was enough to grant him the title of a ’Top Genius’ and would mean he was most likely guaranteed to rise to the level that countless would even dare to dream about and those who would dare, would never be able to reach those levels.
Was trying to curry favor with a man with such bright prospects was anything to be shameful about? No, it was most definitely not.
…
At the foot of Violet Peak were several large buildings. Each had their own use but since usually there wasn’t much activity in the Violet Peak due to the lack of people, most of them remained empty.
Today, one of those buildings—the Healing Hall—wasn’t quiet like always. There were several people in green robes moving about.
An elderly woman in similar robes sitting in front of a closed room. Every so often, someone would bring some herbs or medicine. She would take them and cast several magic spells, purifying them, extracting their essence before condensing them into liquid form which she would store in jade bottles.
Then, every half an hour, she would enter the room, come out a few minutes later, looking slightly exhausted and then bark the orders to the people around her to bring more herbs and medicine.
“Is her condition not improving, Elder?” A female disciple in similar green robes cautiously asked.
“It should, but it isn’t for some reason.” The elder said, frustration and confusion clear in her voice.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
The female disciple was about to say something when two figures suddenly barged into the hall and rushed toward them.
“Halt! No one but…” The elder shouted to stop them after seeing they weren’t her people. But her words got caught in her throat and her hair stood on end when the young man in lead glanced at her and those emotionless blue eyes swept over her.
Swish!
Only after the young man entered the room did she snap back to her senses.
She lightly bowed her head towards Elder Milo and asked, “That boy… was he… her husband?”
“Yeah. Who but him will I allow to enter that room without your consent and Grand Elder’s orders?” Elder Milo nodded.
“He seems even more outstanding than what the rumors say.” The medical elder muttered, recalling his gaze earlier and her reaction to it.
Elder Milo nodded in understanding before letting out a quiet sigh.
…
Inside the room, Max stood frozen at the door, staring at Rima lying on the bed in a daze.
Her entire body was covered in medicinal bandages and she was lying there, completely motionless as though she was…
Though she was alive since the elder outside was still trying to heal her, the moment he saw her, he had a really bad premonition.
He took a step forward and stumbled. Suddenly, there was no strength in his legs. His hands were trembling, just like his heart.
Suppressing his fear, he walked over to her. The few feet distance felt like hundreds of miles.
He could barely see any of her through the bandages.
Taking a breath, he covered her in his Bloodline Sense.
Immediately, his face turned pale, his heart almost stopped beating and vision swayed.
“No… No… Please No…” He violently shook his head and bit his lip hard as if to jolt himself awake from this nightmare. But it did nothing apart from making his lip bleed.
Thud!
