Chapter 234: A Liar?
Chapter 234: Chapter 234: A Liar?
As soon as Ling Qianjun walked in, he saw Hua Buwan drenched in sweat from exhaustion. She was holding a box of goods, seemingly about to move it to the shelves inside. His heart ached, and he hurried over to help.
"Let me do it. Go take a break," Ling Qianjun said softly, reaching out to take the box from her hands.
Hua Buwan looked up at him, a flash of gratitude in her eyes. "Thank you, Ling Qianjun." Her voice was a little hoarse.
Ling Qianjun smiled slightly. "You’re welcome. It’s the least I could do." He carried the box to the shelf, arranged the items neatly, and then turned back to look at her. "Why are you moving goods all by yourself? Aren’t the delivery guys supposed to help move them inside?"
Hua Buwan sighed. "No, they only drop them off at the door. I have to sort them out inside by myself. They can’t exactly help me stack everything neatly on the shelves, can they?"
Ling Qianjun frowned. "That’s too much hard work. If you ever need help with anything in the future, just let me know anytime."
Hua Buwan nodded. "Thank you, Ling Qianjun. You’re a really good person."
Ling Qianjun smiled. "Don’t say that, we’re friends after all." He added in his mind, "Even though it seems I don’t just see you as a friend..."
After everything was tidied up and Hua Buwan had changed her clothes, she grabbed two bottles of drinks. The two of them stood by the counter, sipping their beverages.
"I didn’t go over to your side today. How was your beachcombing harvest? Have you gotten the hang of it?" Hua Buwan asked. The last time she watched Ling Qianjun and the others, they had already learned the techniques for catching seafood and had a pretty good haul. But back then, she had been standing by, guiding them.
Now that a night had passed and she hadn’t been there to direct them, it was entirely up to their own skills.
Ling Qianjun nodded with a smile. "Not bad at all. We went fishing nearby first thing this morning. I don’t know if fish just get hungry easily in the morning, but Qianfan and I got a bite on every cast. It was a bumper harvest. Earlier today, Qianfan and I even took the fish to town to sell."
Hearing this, Hua Buwan immediately congratulated him, "That’s awesome! You and Qianfan did great."
Ling Qianjun then looked at her mysteriously and asked, "Do you know what I found at the town market?"
Since he was deliberately keeping her in suspense, Hua Buwan’s curiosity was instantly piqued. Her eyes widened as she stared intently at him, unable to wait any longer. "Oh? Tell me, tell me! What did you find?"
Seeing her eager expression, Ling Qianjun felt secretly pleased. He paused on purpose before speaking slowly.
Yesterday, Ling Qianjun and Hua Buwan had sold rain boots, gloves, and soap at the market. These novel items had sparked immense interest among the ancient locals, leading to a buying frenzy. As a result, even though they hadn’t set up their stall today, many people were still searching everywhere for their booth.
In the ancient streets, people were murmuring among themselves, buzzing with gossip.
"Where did those two selling rain boots, gloves, and soap go yesterday?" an old man asked with a frown.
"Yeah, I wanted to buy some soap to take home. That stuff makes washing clothes so convenient," a woman chimed in.
"I want to buy a pair of rain boots too. Then I wouldn’t have to worry about getting my shoes wet when walking on rainy days," a young man said.
People inquired all over about Ling Qianjun and Hua Buwan’s whereabouts, but they couldn’t get any concrete information. Some even began to suspect that they were scammers who had deliberately vanished after selling for just one day.
