Steampunk: Sixth Era Epic
Chapter 2305: The Mighty Old God and the Guidance of Dreams
Chapter 2305: Chapter 2305: The Mighty Old God and the Guidance of Dreams
The value of the Special Coin needs no further elaboration, especially as the seventh Chosen One gradually steps onto the stage, making these coins even more precious and not to be squandered.
Although the news about the Sorrow of Blood is important, considering that even if divined successfully, only a vague answer can be obtained, and finding the Dragon Scales afterward might still require the help of the coins, Shard ultimately decided not to let Luviya continue with the divination.
The cat lay on Shard’s lap, squinting its eyes and enjoying the petting, while Luviya picked up her teacup, prompting Iluna to summarize the situation:
"Priest Augustus’s situation is still unclear, while the cultists of Emilia and the Dragon Feast Cult rank lower. The holders of the Sword of the Wind King and Sorrow of Blood rank higher and are the primary focus targets."
"Yes."
Luviya nodded:
"The powers of this Chosen One are associated with justice, light, and dragon. But it seems quite strange now, apart from that cultist, the Chosen Ones we know of all align with the ’justice’ trait, yet few Dragonborns have appeared."
"Perhaps, for the Ancient God: Radiant Dragon, justice holds more significance."
That night, the three of them talked until very late, but since Iluna had to return to a church in Moon Bay to rest, Luviya asked Shard to escort Iluna back to Moon Bay City District and then return.
The purple-eyed girl, having come tonight, naturally wasn’t leaving, and when the two of them prepared to rest after washing up, Shard brought up that matter again:
"It’s like this, isn’t there an exam this weekend? I’ve been planning lately... to cultivate my character."
Luviya showed no surprise at all but gently nodded:
"I see, that’s why Dorothy sent me a letter asking if you’ve been through some kind of shock recently."
She laughed and then pulled Shard to sit down by the bed:
"Actually, I also want to try it, Dorothy said this trick is very effective."
Then she pulled out a fountain pen from her pajama pocket and smiled, holding it in front of her.
Shard felt this scene somewhat familiar.
"Oops~ It’s fallen!"
The fountain pen went clatter~ and fell to the ground, causing Luviya to turn around and bend down facing away from Shard...
In short, Shard’s plan to abstain before the exam, due to feeling misled by "Cat and Desire," was unexpectedly interrupted again. But as night deepened, the two of them embraced and slept in the bedroom, with the cat also falling into slumber, Shard met that long-haired girl in his dream.
At first, the dream wasn’t like that, originally in his strange dream, Shard was walking steadily under the sun in the Gravel Golden Sea. But as he walked, he suddenly found a gigantic ruin ahead of the sand sea. Upon approaching, he realized the ruin was Saint Delan Square.
"What?"
The dream became clearer from this point, Shard stood in the ruins of Saint Delan Square, aware that he was dreaming.
Looking around and behind, it clearly appeared as the City of the Apocalypse, and the sun overhead had turned black. Having guessed some things, Shard pushed open his crooked house door, went through the dilapidated home, and saw that long-haired girl on the rooftop.
He sighed with relief, then eagerly spread his arms:
"Didn’t you say you would only come to see me after I’ve used that black key each month?"
He sat down beside her, gently embracing the long-haired Luviya, the purple-eyed girl also hugged him. The contact in the dream assured Shard this wasn’t a Luviya conjured by his illusion.
"I need to warn you, Shard, this time the danger in Moon Bay..."
Long-haired Luviya spoke, interrupted by Shard:
"Comes from two aspects, the Evil God: Dragon Devourer will ultimately descend on Moon Bay; and the evil object from the deep sea, the Seven-Tail Performer, will appear too, right?"
He chuckled, gently patting Luviya’s back:
"It’s okay, I already know. You don’t need to risk being punished by time again to help me. I promised, leave it all to me."
He felt the dream was pushing him to leave, clearly indicating this meeting could only last for a brief moment.
The long-haired girl lightly bit her lips, shaking her head, her hair sweeping past Shard’s neck tickling him:
"This time, the Great One you all will face is different from any deity you’ve encountered before. It is the nameless Firstborn of the Ancient God, almost could be called one of the strongest deities during the era when the thirteen Ancient Gods departed."
"Aren’t there True Gods still?"
Shard asked with a smile, as yellow sand swept past the two, he released the long-haired girl, gazing at her through the sandstorm:
"During the Randall Valley’s event, the True God: Lantern Bearer appeared and assisted us. This time if that dragon-devouring deity dares to descend on Moon Bay, surely the True God Church will summon the gods."
"No, Shard, you don’t understand.
The order of the material world is collapsing, and with the sequential emergence of the Chosen Ones and the progression of Whispering Verses, it’s on the brink of danger. The five True Gods are the most crucial power to maintain the world order post-Bygone Days, yet their vast powers now make it difficult for them to descend without further damaging the material world’s order."
Her eyes reflected Shard, showing the astonished look on his face:
"Wait, are you saying in the future, the True Gods can never descend again?"
"It’s only temporary, until the deities maintain balance in a higher dimension, the Godfall can proceed again."
Her eyes held sorrow:
"It’s always been like this; this is fate.
No matter the order or time, whenever a dragon and the Chosen of Justice appear, the True Gods fail to descend. In the past, I’ve made many choices: either sacrifice Moon Bay, allowing its destruction, or do nothing and witness the end of Moon Bay’s story without a victor. Or perhaps, constantly delay the appearance of the Chosen of Light, needing the combined strength of at least nine Chosen Ones to..."
She suddenly spat blood, a true damage to her soul.
"Oh, Luviya, don’t say anymore, don’t say anymore, I know."
Shard hurriedly covered her mouth, but the long-haired girl struggled to speak regardless. Her purple eyes focused on her—the unwavering resolve to save the world while repeatedly destroying it to start anew—was absent in the current short-haired girl.
Yet, this made the purple eyes even more alluring to Shard.
"Shard, that Dragon Feast Sacrificial Ground is the most important secret of the Dragon Feast Cult.
It was the central building of the Temple’s papacy during the First Era under the Ancient God: Radiant Dragon. Through it, the Dragon Devourer can manifest its true body in the Material World, and even with the Impermanence Card, you still, you still..."
The blood she spit stained Shard’s clothes, but what Shard felt was her soul breaking apart. This time, Shard clumsily covered her mouth again, stabilizing her soul status with moonlight flowing from his hands:
"Don’t speak anymore, I understand, I understand."
The long-haired girl sobbed as she shrank into his embrace, always crying before Shard, yet Shard did not despise this:
"Even with the Impermanence Card, I still cannot confront and defeat that deity like I did those Old Gods, can I?"
He softly said, and the long-haired girl gently nodded in his arms:
"I don’t know; no one else has used those cards the way you did. They might still be useful, but you need to prepare a backup plan.
Thanks to your monthly... efforts, I’ve recovered some strength. This time, use your Maze Lock: Lovers of the Bell Tower to merge my soul. When I become part of you, the residue of power from the thirteen Chosen Ones left in my soul will enable you to better use the Impermanence Card."
Holding her softly, Luviya turned her back to Saint Delan Square, while Shard looked up at the distant black sun flowing with a red stream of light:
"What punishment will this soul, which doesn’t belong to this Era, face?"
He asked quietly:
"You are no longer the bygone Luviya; you are part of the present Luviya. You can use your special powers through Luviya Annette, but you cannot display these powers beyond that."
Luviya, crouched, remained silent for a moment:
"It seems you have understood the rules of time even without my guidance. Shard, either allow me to be sacrificed or sacrifice Moon Bay City and watch it perish. Choose."
"Then let Moon Bay be destroyed."
Shard looked down at her:
"I always seek a good ending, but do you know what I truly consider a good ending?"
The purple eyes glistened with tears as she looked at him:
"Tell me."
"You know, I will try my best to find a way for everyone to live, but if I can’t, I won’t sacrifice you for others. What kind of good ending is that?"
"Shard~"
If this meeting weren’t temporary, and this dream more stable, Shard thought she would have started reaching to undress him:
"Then there is another way."
In her eyes, a lady’s pocket watch flashed by:
"At the beginning of next month, you still have one chance to make her fall in love with you, to become part of you. You can’t use that Maze Lock because you’re of the present, but she can since she’s of the bygone days."
"Hmm..."
Shard hesitated:
"Luviya, are you really scheming against her as Miss Adel Isabella said?"
The long-haired girl didn’t answer but instead embraced Shard’s neck, passionately kissing him amidst the roof’s blowing sand.
When the purple eyes opened again, the figure of Shard was gone, replaced by something else in her embrace.
The long-haired girl pursed her lips, looking at the unicorn plush she held:
"So this is what he meant by the blessing of ’Childhood Dream’... Shard’s power, finally strong enough to directly influence my dreams? He’s at the Seventh Ring, close to the Eight Rings..."
She clutched the soft toy, stayed crouched on the rooftop, awaiting tomorrow’s morning to reunite with her beloved once more.
