Chapter 709: Roundtable Conference

  • Next Chapter

A Heroic warrior escorted Rolferth to the Roundtable Conference Hall on the tower’s top floor. To enter, one had to pass through a series of checkpoints, but this process was skipped because Rolferth was one of the ten eldermen.

"Announce me," Rolferth spoke to the doorkeepers.

One of the two doorkeepers nodded and announced his arrival.

"Elderman Rolferth of the Double Sun Firm has arrived!"

As soon as his voice fell, the tall double doors slowly opened, revealing a huge hall with a high ceiling. At the center of the hall was a round table with ten seats arranged around it. Six of the seats were already taken and the individuals were conversing about various issues.

When Rolferth entered the conference hall, they all looked at him. Some smiled in a friendly manner, while others remained indifferent.

"Rolferth, how is your Double Sun Firm doing these days?" ℴℴ𝘮

"Rolferth, I heard you scored big time in your business with the Gladiator Colosseum. How about buying some drinks for your old friends?"

Rolferth greeted everyone present and replied to them one by one. These men were his fellow eldermen, individuals at the Beyonder realm. Some of them were even more powerful than him, both in strength and in wealth.

"So why did you gather all of us here? I canceled a trip for this meeting, so it better be important." Coldly spoke an old man with long white hair.

This old man is Krayos, a Calamity-grade wyvern. Because of his enormous size, he could only take his humanoid form to enter the tower.

Among the ten eldermen of the Obsidian Tower, his strength was believed to be the strongest.

Rolferth stared cautiously at the old man.

Upon closer look, one could see two horns protruding on either side of his forehead.

"Elderman Krayos, I assure you that I have good reason for calling this meeting."

Krayos grunted to acknowledge his response. He then looked away and closed his eyes.

Half an hour later, all ten eldermen had finally arrived.

Seeing that everyone had gathered, Rolferth stood up and cleared his throat. "Thank you for coming here, Eldermen. I have gathered you all here to discuss the situation in Red Mountain Territory."

The individuals here were busy people so he didn’t bother to say useless pleasantries.

After a short pause, he continued in a grave tone. "Recently, someone in the territory advanced to the Beyonder realm. This figure’s breakthrough created a phenomenon that stretched across almost half the entire Red Mountain Territory."

"Is it one of the tribe leaders under the golden lion tribe?"

Rolferth shook his head. "Fortunately, it is not one of those barbaric tribesmen. However, I learned from our spies that the person behind that phenomenon is a human."

"A human? Then is it someone from your firm?"

Rolferth took a deep breath and shook his head. "Our firm does not have this luck. According to our spies, this person is not from any nearby territories. Moreover, there appears to be another Beyonder aside from him."

"A human faction with two Beyonders... With this information, we can narrow down the suspects to a few factions. Do you have more details to share, Elderman Rolferth?"

"Indeed, I have." Rolferth nodded.

He looked at the people present and continued. "I sent scouts to search for them and they found a large settlement near a small goat beastkin tribe. Based on the number of tents, there are approximately two million people in that settlement and all of them are warriors."

Hearing this, the eldermen were stunned. This was no ordinary force. A faction that could gather two million warriors and was led by two Beyonders could rival the Double Sun Firm.

Krayos opened his eyes and asked in a low voice. "Have you established contact with those humans?"

Rolferth shook his head and replied. "The situation in the Red Mountain Territory is quite tense. The golden lion tribe has summoned its vassal forces to the Northern Golden Savanna. They might misunderstand our intentions if we set out to meet those humans."

The eldermen fell silent.

They all knew of the ongoing conflicts between the Double Sun Firm and the golden lion tribe. If a war between these two forces were to occur, the Obsidian Tower would be forced to intervene.

At this moment, an old lizardman beastkin spoke. "We should send envoys to the golden lion tribe and reassure them that we have no relation to that human settlement. At the same time, we must establish contact with the human settlement and find out their true intentions."

The eldermen nodded, agreeing with his suggestions.

They couldn’t just allow an unknown faction to destroy the peace in Red Mountain Territory which they fought so hard to preserve.

"This must be done quickly. The Golden Lion Sovereign has a strong dislike for humans. He might launch a full-scale war against them. We cannot allow Red Mountain Territory to descend into chaos." Another elderman advised.

The Obsidian Tower had many business dealings with the factions in Red Mountain Territory. If a war broke out, these businesses would be forced to close down and cause substantial financial losses to the tower.

"Who should we send as envoys?" Rolferth scanned the round table, waiting for the eldermen’s suggestions.

Krayos broke the short silence. "I will visit the golden lion tribe with Lir. Rolferth, I suggest that you head to that human settlement. Find out their identity and their objectives.

"Very well." Rolferth had no objections. He was the only human among the ten eldermen so he was the most appropriate candidate to approach the unknown human faction. Furthermore, the members of the Double Sun Firm were predominantly humans.

"Are there more pressing matters that this round table has to know?" Krayos scanned the eldermen present.

After getting no response, he rose to his feet. "Then let us end the meeting here. You guys must make the necessary preparations. We have to get ready for whatever situation may arise."

The eldermen stood up and nodded in agreement.

"I must go now, everyone. Once I have news of the situation, I will send messengers to update you." Rolferth seemed to be in a hurry to leave. After bidding everyone farewell, he left the conference hall in haste.
