Starting Today I'll Work As A City Lord
Chapter 821 - 818 An Unequal War
Chapter 821: Chapter 818 An Unequal War
Early the next morning, before the sky was fully bright, Perry and Sally had already assembled the beastkin knights and were ready to set off.
Perry sat on her warhorse, looking at the one thousand knights before her and the two thousand beastkin behind them. A look of majesty graced her face. The latter group was responsible for moving and escorting goods.
"We have only one objective today. What is it?" Perry shouted in a deep voice.
"Victory! Victory! Victory!!" The beastkin Knight Order roared in unison, their voices shaking the surroundings.
"Excellent. Move out," Perry waved her hand, a cold gleam in her eyes. She spurred her warhorse forward, leading the march toward the tribe where Bolt resided.
Clop, clop, clop...
"Your Highness, we received news this morning that Greena’s people bypassed us and made contact with Bolt," Sally whispered, riding her warhorse up beside Perry.
"What was said?" Perry furrowed her brows.
She had her eyes on Bolt’s tribe for a long time. Months ago, she had already set her plans in motion, planting spies among his subordinates.
"According to the intelligence sent back, they also want warhorses in exchange for iron spears. The conditions are exactly the same as what they offered us initially," Sally said deeply, a tone of disdain in her voice.
"Did Bolt agree?" Perry asked in a low voice.
"No," Sally chuckled lightly.
Given the conditions Greena proposed, anyone who wasn’t a fool would never agree to trade warhorses for a handful of iron weapons.
Perry nodded after hearing this. Whether Bolt agreed or not no longer mattered. Even if he agreed right now, it would be far too late.
"Accelerate our march. We must reach Bolt’s tribe before daybreak," Perry commanded deeply. Squeezing her horse’s belly with her legs, the warhorse broke into a rapid gallop.
"Yes," Sally responded, leading the knights forward.
Clop, clop, clop...
*
On the Sahara, at the Bolt Tribe bordering Perry’s territory.
At this moment, the tribe was still quiet. Occasionally, knights on horseback could be seen patrolling the perimeter.
Bolt was once a noble’s Head Knight. However, the noble he served suddenly faced the ruin and demise of his family. Thus, Bolt broke away, leading his subordinates to the Sahara to establish this tribe.
This year, Bolt was already forty-five years old. He had been leading this tribe for over a decade. Back then, it was just a small tribe, and it had only grown to its current scale through annexations.
Currently, Bolt was sleeping in the largest tent structure, holding a maid in his arms, occasional snores escaping his lips.
Snore, snore...
"..."
"Say, do you think the Second Prince of the Siacan Kingdom got kicked in the head by a horse? Trying to trade us a few spears for our warhorses," The patrolling Head Knight deliberately brought up yesterday’s events, starting to feel bored.
Furthermore, dawn was approaching. Everyone was exhausted, so they relaxed their vigilance and started chatting.
"Hahaha... The people of the Royal Family are all so full of themselves. If it weren’t for the fact that they were the Prince’s subordinates, Lord Bolt would have kept them here permanently a long time ago," Another knight laughed.
"I think he just hit a wall with the neighboring beastkin tribe and purely came here to try his luck," The Head Knight said deeply. Following his chieftain’s instructions, he intentionally steered the conversation toward topics that incited hostility against the beastkin.
"Hmph... To think the people of that beastkin tribe actually wanted to cooperate with us," A knight curled his lips, looking arrogant and haughty.
"Hehe... Lord Bolt will make a move sooner or later and turn them all into slaves," The Head Knight sneered. In his mind, beastkin were only fit to be slaves; they had no right to talk about cooperation.
Thump, thump, thump...
"Did you guys hear a noise?" A knight suddenly asked, his brows furrowing slightly.
"I think so. It sounds like something is approaching," The older Head Knight said deeply. He looked up toward the direction of the sound, seeming somewhat reluctant to believe his own suspicion.
Clop, clop, clop... At this moment, they clearly felt vibrations coming from the ground, accompanied by distinct sounds of hooves.
"Not good, this volume of hoofbeats..."
The Head Knight’s expression changed drastically as he immediately realized what it was. He shouted at the top of his lungs:
"Enemy attack!!!"
Clop, clop, clop...
However, it was already too late. Perry and Sally, leading their squad of beastkin knights, had appeared on the horizon. Wielding spears, they charged straight in.
They had been sneaking up stealthily to begin with, taking out the hidden sentries, and only initiated their full sprint when they were up close.
"Beastkin attack! On guard! On guard quickly!" The knights’ faces instantly paled as they screamed loudly.
"Kill him," Perry ordered in a low voice.
"Yes."
A cat beastkin following behind Perry drew her bow fully and fired an arrow directly.
Swish...
"Urgh!"
The cat beastkin’s archery was excellent. The arrow pierced straight through the Head Knight’s throat, leaving only the fletching quivering at the end.
"Those who surrender will be spared! Those who resist will be killed!" Perry yelled coldly, brandishing the longsword in her hand.
"Kill! Kill..."
Instantly, the one thousand knights on warhorses tore into the enemy camp like a sharp knife, charging straight for the central structure.
"What’s happening?" Bolt shouted. He had already woken up upon hearing the hoofbeats. With a gloomy expression, he quickly donned his clothes and armor, grabbed his longsword, and ran outside.
Tap, tap, tap...
A knight immediately rushed over to report, "It’s the beastkin! Chieftain, the beastkin are attacking!"
"Damn beastkin! Everyone prepare for battle! Follow me and kill them!" Bolt roared furiously.
However, his knights were currently in a state of utter panic, clearly bewildered by the sudden ambush. They scrambled wildly to put on their clothes and grab their weapons. By the time they reacted, Perry and her forces had almost reached them.
This could only be blamed on their laxity during normal times. After a few years of peaceful living, they had forgotten the life of fighting and killing.
"Fucking beastkin, launching a sneak attack," Bolt roared. Riding on his warhorse, his eyes went wide as he glared at the approaching Perry.
"Since you refused to cooperate, I will use my own methods to make you agree," Perry said coldly from a short distance away.
"What a fine method indeed," Bolt bellowed, his eyes bulging.
"Surrender, or death," Perry didn’t waste words, staring at him coldly.
"I will never..." Bolt looked at the battle situation around him, his face growing increasingly darker. The beastkin had clearly come prepared. His knights had been fast asleep, and by the time they realized what was happening, the enemy was already at their doorstep.
The beastkin were prepared; he was not. How could they fight this?
Especially when he saw the beastkin knights wielding steel spears, his heart sank. Many of his tribe’s knights had been subdued before they even had a chance to resist.
"What, you want to fight? Then come here." Perry gripped her longsword, her eyes locked onto Bolt.
"You..." Bolt’s face was terrifyingly grim. Had he really been defeated this quickly?
He then remembered that the opposition consisted of beastkin, whose physical strength was much greater than humans. Furthermore, they had steel spears. There was simply no way to fight. If they continued fighting, it would only result in heavy casualties for his knights.
"Those who drop their weapons will live! Resisters will be killed without mercy!" Sally shouted at the top of her lungs, a cold gleam in her eyes.
"..." A bitter smile crept onto Bolt’s lips. He turned to look at his knights who had been herded together. They weren’t even wearing their armor; some didn’t even have their clothes fully on. They looked exactly like a mob of refugees.
He had the heart to fight it out, but seeing such subordinates, fighting would simply be sending them to their deaths.
"Sigh..." Bolt lowered his head. The longsword slipped from his grasp, and he seemed to age several years in an instant.
"Take them," Perry ordered in a deep voice, breathing a sigh of relief internally. This had gone unexpectedly smoothly. The enemy had surrendered before they even really fought.
"We surrender! We surrender!!!"
Seeing their chieftain surrender, the rest of the knights didn’t hesitate and sensibly surrendered as well.
"Take them all into custody," Perry’s lips curled up slightly. All that was left was to reorganize this patch of pasture, and then send people out to patrol and intimidate the surrounding tribes.
