Chapter 220: Silas Reborn, Enforcer of the Zenith
The violent fusion of the [Fragment of the Source Code] and [Voidsever] sent a shockwave rolling across the laboratory.
Dante didn’t drop the sword, but he stumbled backward, forced to grip the dark bone hilt with both hands to maintain control.
The jagged black metal of the primordial greatsword wasn’t just humming; it was screeching, a high-pitched, mechanical sound that resembled ripping metal.
The glowing white fragment didn’t absorb into the blade like the Chaos Orbs had. Instead, it melted, forming a network of incredibly bright, pulsing white veins that spread rapidly across the pitch-black surface of the sword.
The system interface violently hitched, throwing a massive red warning prompt into Dante’s vision.
[System Error: Unauthorized Code Integration Detected.]
[Warning: Weapon Signature Altered.]
[Attempting to parse new data parameters...]
Dante held his breath. He had just smashed a literal piece of the server’s foundational code into a cursed, world-breaking weapon.
If the system decided this was a fatal error, it might forcefully delete the item from his inventory.
The red warning text flickered, then shattered into digital dust.
The interface stabilized, returning to its standard blue formatting.
[Item Appraised: Voidsever (Awakened)]
[Tier: Celestial (Anti-Virus)]
[Base Attack Power: 10,000]
Dante stared at the new stats. The base attack power had doubled.
He scrolled down to the passives. The standard abilities [Absolute Severance], [Inevitability], and [Doom’s Echo] were all still there, completely intact.
But a new, flashing white line of text sat at the bottom of the interface.
[New Passive Unlocked: Systemic Override (Anti-Virus)]
[Description: The weapon has integrated core architectural data. Strikes made with Voidsever can now permanently sever active system protocols, administrative buffs, and server traps. The weapon is mathematically recognized as an authorized debugging tool.]
"An authorized debugging tool," Dante whispered, a slow smile spreading across his face.
Voidsever wasn’t just a big sword anymore. It was an eraser. If the Arch-Administrator tried to trap him in a massive, systemic cage, or if a boss activated an un-cleansable, hard-coded invulnerability phase, Dante didn’t have to worry about the math. He could literally just cut the code.
He dismissed Voidsever, the black and white blade dissolving into smoke and returning to his wrist.
The brand on his skin had changed; the jagged black tattoo was now laced with incredibly fine, glowing white lines.
"Dante," Nyx called out from the floor below, her voice tight with concern. "Are you okay? The system logs just went completely insane for a second."
"I’m fine," Dante called back, walking toward the metal stairs leading down from the catwalk. "I just got an upgrade."
Alysia stood near the shattered glass vats, her icy blue eyes fixed on the spot where Vane had been deleted.
"The Architect is gone," Alysia said, her voice dropping into a solemn register. "But the damage he has done to the lore... the Harvest... it cannot be easily undone."
"We’ll worry about the grand cosmic conspiracy later," Dante said, reaching the bottom of the stairs.
He looked around the pristine, sterile laboratory, now covered in shattered glass and red fluid.
"Right now, we need to secure this facility. Nyx, start pulling whatever data you can from these terminals. I want to know exactly what Vane was building."
Before Nyx could step toward the closest console, the ambient lighting in the laboratory flickered.
It wasn’t a power failure.
The entire Zenith Protocol server violently shuddered.
A massive, blaring siren echoed across the world, completely distinct from the harsh red warning of a catastrophic event.
It sounded like a massive, celestial trumpet, signaling an event of unprecedented global importance.
A blinding, pure white notification box slammed into the sky, projected perfectly across every single zone on Veridia.
[GLOBAL SERVER ANNOUNCEMENT]
[A new authority has ascended.]
[Player ’Gilded’ has officially assumed the mantle of [Enforcer of the Zenith].]
[All Outworlders are advised to adhere to the new localized parameters of order.]
Dante stopped walking.
"Gilded," Lila whispered, her face going completely pale. "Silas. He’s still alive."
Dante stared at the white text in the sky. He had executed Silas in the Crimson Canyon. He had triggered a True Death. Silas should have been permanently deleted from the server, his account wiped, his VR capsule shut down.
"How is he back?" Casanova asked through the comm, completely bewildered. "You killed him, Boss. We watched him turn to ash."
"The system brought him back," Nyx deduced rapidly, her fingers flying across her datapad as she tried to pull up the public API data.
"Look at the title. ’Enforcer of the Zenith’. That’s not a standard player title. That’s an administrative designation."
The system announcement didn’t fade. It shifted, displaying a new, incredibly detailed message.
[Global Milestone Achieved.]
[Enforcer ’Gilded’ has successfully secured the Solo Kill of the ’Titan of the Shattered Peaks’ (Level 50 Celestial Boss).]
[The Veridian Alliance localized threat level has been reduced.]
The laboratory was completely silent.
"He just soloed a Level 50 Celestial Boss," Sera stated, her voice tight with disbelief.
"Dante, an hour ago he couldn’t even scratch your shields. He was begging for his life in a canyon. How did he jump to executing endgame lore entities?"
"He didn’t grind for it," Dante said, his red eyes narrowing. "He made a deal."
Dante remembered the massive, glowing green eye in the sky. The Arch-Administrator.
The system was actively trying to purge Dante because he was an anomaly disrupting the Harvest.
Silas was a desperate, humiliated, bankrupted Guild Master who hated Dante more than anything else in the world.
The Arch-Administrator had found its perfect champion.
Silas hadn’t just respawned. He had been resurrected and actively empowered by the system itself. He was now operating with administrative privileges, completely bypassing the standard leveling curve and combat math.
"He’s a proxy," Alysia confirmed, her icy gaze locked onto the announcement. "The system has granted him direct access to the underlying code. He is no longer bound by cooldowns or stamina costs. He possesses absolute, systemic authority."
"So he’s basically you, Boss," Casanova pointed out nervously. "But evil. And backed by the game developers."
Dante didn’t smile. He opened his regional chat interface.
The Veridian Alliance forums were completely melting down again.
[Regional Chat - ApexHunter: DID YOU SEE THE ANNOUNCEMENT?! Silas is back! And he just deleted a Celestial!]
[Regional Chat - VanguardGrunt44: The true king returns! Aegis Vanguard is finished! Silas has developer powers!]
[Regional Chat - IronTank: I just saw the stream! Silas literally pointed a finger at the boss, and the mountain exploded! He didn’t even use a sword!]
The narrative was rapidly shifting. The player base, previously terrified of Dante and enamored with his victories, was suddenly pivoting back to Vanguard’s Legacy.
Silas was actively demonstrating a level of power that rivaled Dante’s, but Silas was doing it under the official, sanctioned banner of the system.
He was projecting stability and order.
Suddenly, the regional chat froze.
A new, highly formatted, glowing white message appeared at the absolute top of the chat log, completely pinning itself above the frantic player messages.
[System Broadcast - Sender: Gilded (Enforcer of the Zenith)]
[Message: To the players of Overture. The anomaly known as ’Dan’ is a parasite. He is actively stealing localized resources and disrupting the natural progression of the server. His reign of terror ends today.]
The message paused for a few seconds.
[Message Continued: I, Silas, Enforcer of the Zenith, hereby issue a formal, systemic challenge to Aegis Vanguard. I demand a duel. If you do not meet me in the center of the Veridian Plains by sundown, I will utilize my administrative authority to systematically dismantle every single player wearing your guild tag. You will not find safe harbor.]
Dante read the message.
Silas wasn’t hiding behind an army anymore. He wasn’t setting up traps or hiring NPC assassins. He was incredibly, intoxicatingly confident in his new admin-level power.
He wanted a public, one-on-one duel to humiliate Dante and reclaim his absolute monopoly.
"Dante," Sera warned, through the comm. "You cannot accept that duel. He isn’t playing by the rules anymore. He has developer tools."
"If I don’t accept it, he’ll start deleting our guild members from the server," Dante replied smoothly. "He has the authority to bypass safe zones now."
"But he’s essentially a god!" Lila protested. "If you fight him, you’re fighting the game itself!"
Dante slowly raised his right hand. The dark, jagged brand of [Voidsever] pulsed softly on his wrist, the new, glowing white veins of the [Fragment of the Source Code] humming with aggressive anti-virus energy.
"I’m not worried about the game," Dante said, a cold, predatory smile spreading across his face.
He turned away from the laboratory consoles and headed toward the shattered iron doors.
"Let’s go back to the Capital," Dante ordered Nyx. "I have a duel to attend."
