Star Ship Girl Era: My Shipgirls Are Too Overpowered
Chapter 358: Accessing The Medical Section
The first internal checks from the Human Continuance Matrix finished before the Arcturus convoy arrived.
Eirenne reviewed the results twice before allowing anyone near the lower level. Most of the power lines were stable, the air systems were clean, and the medical network had not detected any active contamination.
Several parts of the matrix were still offline, but nothing in the first report suggested an immediate threat.
That was enough to begin an inspection.
Aurelian returned to the Steward Chamber with Astra and Rhoswen. Vaela was already waiting with two medical specialists from Sanctuary Ardent, Doctor Selis Marr and Doctor Oren Tal.
Both looked tired, though neither complained when Eirenne repeated the safety rules.
"No patient enters the lower level," Aurelian said. "Nobody touches a medical unit until Eirenne and the doctors agree it is safe. If anything changes, we leave immediately."
Rhoswen looked toward the hidden map above the central platform.
"What if the doors close behind us?"
"Then you may hit something."
Her expression brightened.
"That is a much better plan."
Vaela gave her a brief look but said nothing.
Eirenne activated the lower access route from the Steward Chamber. The complete map of Sanctuary Ardent appeared again, then shifted toward the hidden section beneath the vault.
A circular opening formed in the floor beyond the platform.
The metal surface separated into six parts and drew back, revealing a wide lift shaft. Pale lights came on far below, one after another, until the bottom became visible.
A platform rose toward them without sound.
It was large enough to carry equipment, but there were no rails, seats, or visible controls. A simple Human symbol marked the center.
"Power is stable," Eirenne said. "The lift remains connected to the Steward Chamber, but the lower system is not allowing me full control."
Aurelian stepped onto the platform.
Astra followed first, then Vaela and the two doctors. Rhoswen entered last and looked over the edge of the shaft.
"It is deeper than I expected."
"Most hidden things are," Vaela replied.
Rhoswen considered that.
"That sounded wiser than it needed to."
The platform descended before Vaela could answer.
The upper chamber slowly disappeared above them as the floor closed over the shaft. Light followed the platform downward, leaving the walls visible but revealing little beyond smooth metal and old support frames.
Eirenne’s projection stood near Aurelian, flickering slightly as the platform passed through several isolated network layers.
"The lower systems are waking in sequence," she said. "Power first, then life support, then medical control."
"Any signs of damage?" Aurelian asked.
"Minor failures in two outer rooms. The central chamber remains sealed."
The descent lasted longer than expected.
Rhoswen finally looked up.
"How far beneath the vault are we?"
"Almost one kilometer," Eirenne answered.
Vaela frowned.
"Why build a medical system this deep?"
"To protect it," Astra said.
Doctor Marr looked toward the passing walls.
"Or to contain it."
The platform became quiet after that.
Aurelian understood the concern. The matrix had been presented as a medical system, but the records also mentioned genetic treatment, physical adaptation, and commander support.
Those terms could cover many things, including work that would no longer be considered acceptable under Human Alliance law.
Ancient Human technology was valuable.
Ancient Human judgment was not always reliable.
The platform slowed and entered a large circular room.
The walls were dark at first, but lights came on as they stepped off the lift. Eight doors surrounded the chamber, matching the narrow lines around the symbol they had seen above.
The white circle itself was built into the floor.
At the center stood a low medical platform surrounded by narrow instruments and transparent screens.
Nothing about it looked like a weapon, though several machines were large enough that Rhoswen still watched them carefully.
Eirenne examined the room.
"This is only the outer control chamber. The main matrix lies behind the central wall."
Aurelian looked around.
"Which door first?"
"Medical intake," Doctor Marr said, pointing toward the door with three linked circles. "That symbol was used for initial assessment."
The door opened as they approached.
Beyond it was a clean examination room with several beds, sealed cabinets, and a line of diagnostic arches. Most of the equipment remained folded into the walls.
Vaela stepped inside slowly.
"I know these designs."
"From the upper halls?" Astra asked.
"Older versions of them. The preservation staff used simplified units built from the same plans."
Doctor Tal moved toward one of the diagnostic arches but stopped before touching it.
"The upper units could identify tissue damage and preservation shock, but they could not repair severe cases."
Eirenne connected to the room.
"This system claims it can."
A list appeared across one wall.
Preservation damage.
Cellular decay.
Nerve degradation.
Immune collapse.
Organ instability.
Genetic illness.
Radiation injury.
Command-link stress.
Tier advancement strain.
Rhoswen read the last two entries.
"That part is for commanders?"
"It appears so," Eirenne said.
Aurelian studied the list.
"Why would tier advancement cause physical strain?"
Doctor Marr answered before Eirenne could.
"Because a commander’s mind and body do not always strengthen at the same rate. The fleet connection increases mental load, and higher tiers place more pressure on the nervous system. Modern Alliance medicine can manage most cases, but not all."
Aurelian had experienced exhaustion after advancement, though nothing serious enough to concern him. He had assumed it was normal.
Vaela looked toward him.
"You have advanced quickly."
"I have."
"How quickly?"
"Faster than average."
Rhoswen smiled.
"That is a careful answer."
Aurelian ignored her.
Eirenne opened the next room remotely.
"This chamber contains treatment records. We should review them before using anything."
They continued through the second door.
The room beyond was smaller, with no beds or equipment. Instead, thousands of records appeared in suspended columns of light as soon as Aurelian entered.
Names, dates, treatment plans, and medical results filled the chamber.
Most belonged to the sanctuary population.
Some records went back to the final years before Sanctuary Ardent was sealed. Others had been updated automatically as the preservation system monitored the sleepers through the centuries.
Vaela stopped near the first column.
"These are everyone’s complete medical histories."
