Kael was genuinely curious about the Great Rule.

This wasn’t the first time he had heard someone mention it. Athom had also spoken about the Great Rule, claiming it was somehow preventing him from affecting the outside world. Unfortunately, the moment Kael tried questioning him further, that bastard had gone completely silent, refusing to explain anything else.

Now that Varek had brought it up as well, Kael couldn’t help but wonder what exactly this so-called Great Rule was.

"Even I am not entirely sure, Master," Varek admitted.

Kael raised an eyebrow slightly. He hadn’t expected Varek, with all his knowledge and experience, to give such an answer.

Varek paused for a moment, seemingly organizing his thoughts before continuing.

"To understand the Great Rule, you must first understand what a reality is. A reality is a plane of existence governed by a complete set of rules. Everything within that reality, from the smallest particle to the greatest being, exists under the authority of those rules."

He stopped briefly, allowing Kael to digest his words.

"Above reality itself is the Supreme Rule, which governs and safeguards everything. Of course, this is merely a vague description. The Supreme Rule is far more complicated than I can explain, and I am afraid this is as much as I can divulge."

Varek’s expression grew solemn.

"At your current level, learning more than this could result in a catastrophic backlash. Some knowledge is not meant to be understood before one has reached a certain level of existence. Attempting to comprehend it prematurely could have consequences you are not prepared to bear."

Kael opened his mouth to ask another question, but before he could speak, the bedroom door opened.

Both of them turned toward the entrance.

Lyra stepped inside, closing the door behind her before walking toward them. Her gaze briefly passed over Varek before settling on Kael, and he immediately turned to face her.

"You’re finally here."

Kael reached out and collected the vial containing the Spring of Life from Varek. The transparent container rested in his palm, the precious liquid inside shimmering faintly.

He held it out toward his sister.

"Here. You can administer it to Mom."

Lyra froze.

Her eyes fell on the vial, and for a moment, she simply stared at it as though she couldn’t quite believe what she was seeing.

"B-But..."

"What’s wrong?" Kael asked.

"You’ve been the one taking care of her all these years. You’ve stayed by her side and done everything you could for her, even when there was nothing you could do to make her better." His expression softened slightly. "If anyone has the right to administer this remedy, it should be you. So, here, take it."

He kept his hand extended for another moment before adding, "Besides, my hand is starting to hurt from holding this thing out for so long."

Lyra blinked.

For a second, she seemed caught between her emotions and the absurdity of his final remark. Then she carefully reached out and took the vial from him.

"Thank you, Kael."

Her voice was quiet, but the gratitude in it was unmistakable.

She held the vial with both hands, cradling it as though it were the most fragile object she had ever touched. There was no way she could afford to be careless with something that might finally bring their mother back to them.

Taking a deep breath, Lyra turned toward the bed.

Their mother lay motionless beneath the sheets, her frail body barely stirring with each shallow breath. Even after all these years, Lyra had never grown used to seeing her like this.

She approached the bedside and carefully removed the stopper from the vial. A faint, refreshing fragrance spread through the room at once, carrying a strange sense of vitality that seemed to change the very air around them.

She sat down beside their mother, gently supporting her head as she pried her lips apart.

Then, with the utmost care, she tilted the vial and poured its contents into her mother’s mouth.

The liquid disappeared between her lips.

For a few seconds, nothing happened.

But just as Lyra’s heart began to sink, a brilliant light suddenly burst from their mother’s body.

It was so sudden that Lyra instinctively leaned back, while Kael’s eyes widened in surprise. The concentrated radiance enveloped their mother’s entire body, shining through her clothes and illuminating the surrounding room.

Then the light began to spread.

A warm, powerful energy flowed through her body, reaching every corner of her weakened frame. The effects became visible almost immediately.

The wrinkles covering her skin began to fade, the aged and withered appearance gradually peeling away to reveal smooth skin beneath. Color returned to her cheeks, replacing the unnatural pallor that had remained for so long. Her sunken features filled out, and her shriveled body slowly regained its lost vitality.

Her entire appearance was changing before their eyes.

For a brief moment, she seemed to radiate the presence of some supreme being, her body glowing with an almost divine brilliance.

Then, just as suddenly as it had appeared, the glow began to fade.

The brilliant radiance receded into her body, revealing the woman lying beneath.

The frail, elderly-looking woman who had occupied the bed only moments ago was gone. In her place lay a beautiful young woman with smooth skin, healthy features, and a figure no longer marked by years of illness.

She didn’t look a day over thirty.

Kael couldn’t help staring at her face. He’d grown so accustomed to seeing his mother in her weakened state that the memory of how she used to look had faded over time. Yet even he could tell something about her had changed beyond simply recovering her lost vitality.

She looked younger than he remembered, younger and even prettier than she’d been before she first fell ill.

Kael was certain his eyes weren’t deceiving him. The woman before him really was his mother, yet her restored appearance was so striking that it took him a moment to fully process it.

There was a clear resemblance between her and Lyra, too. Looking at their mother now, it was easy to see where Lyra had inherited her features. She looked almost exactly like a more mature version of his younger sister.

But before Kael could dwell on that thought any longer, something happened.

Their mother’s fingers moved.

It was a small movement, barely noticeable at first, but Kael caught it immediately. His gaze snapped toward her hand, and he watched as her fingers twitched once more.

Then her eyelids fluttered.

Lyra went completely still.

Kael felt his heart tighten in his chest as he stared at the woman on the bed. For years, he had imagined this moment. In his previous life, he had watched his family fall apart, losing the people who mattered most to him one after another. He had carried the regret of those failures all the way to his death.

After returning to the past, he had sworn to change things.

Now, after everything he had done, it was finally happening.

Their mother’s eyes slowly opened.

For a moment, she seemed disoriented. Her beautiful green eyes, bright and warm even after all this time, moved across the unfamiliar room as she tried to make sense of her surroundings. She blinked several times, her expression filled with confusion.

Then her gaze landed on the two people standing beside her bed.

She froze.

For a brief moment, she simply stared at them, as though afraid that what she was seeing might disappear if she moved.

Then her lips parted, and a familiar, gentle smile spread across her face.

"Lyra? Kael? Is that you guys?"

The moment those words reached them, something inside Kael and Lyra finally broke.

Lyra was the first to react. Tears immediately welled up in her eyes, spilling down her cheeks before she could even attempt to stop them. She covered her mouth with one hand, her shoulders trembling as she stared at the mother she had spent so many years waiting to see again.

"Mom..."

The word came out broken and barely audible.

Kael didn’t fare much better.

He had spent years regretting the things he had failed to do, carrying the weight of his sister’s death and his mother’s condition until it had become a part of him. After returning to the past, he had kept his emotions under control, focusing on becoming stronger and making sure he would never experience that kind of helplessness again.

But there were some moments when holding everything inside served no purpose.

Some emotions were simply too great to be contained, and this was one of them.

His feet moved before he could think, carrying him toward the bed.

"Mom..."

His voice trembled. The moment he tried to speak again, the tears he had been holding back finally spilled over.

Their mother turned toward him, her warm green eyes softening at the sight of her son. She opened her arms, one of them already wrapped around Lyra, who had leaned against her and was crying uncontrollably.

Kael didn’t hesitate.

He stepped forward and fell into his mother’s embrace, burying his face against her as the tears continued to flow. His shoulders shook as he sobbed, no longer trying to maintain the calm expression he had worn for so long.

Their mother held them both, drawing her children close with the same warmth and tenderness they had missed for years.

"It’s okay," she whispered gently, her voice carrying a hint of confusion but overflowing with affection. "Mommy’s here."
