Chapter 266 Arrogant Young Man
Chapter 266 Arrogant Young Man
She sighed wistfully, a smile forming on her face. It was a happy smile, a seductive smile, an exaggerated smile. “If only my own love life were half as entertaining to watch unfold…” Emma added with a teasing smile, swaying slightly as if lost in contemplation.
Alaric pointedly ignored Emma’s background commentary, his attention entirely focused on the phone conversation.
“Selene, who is this ‘Moon’ you were expecting to hear from?”
Selene felt heat rise in her cheeks as she realized her mistake. “He’s… he’s just a friend, Alaric.”
“A friend…” Alaric repeated slowly, suspicious.
There was a pause that stretched uncomfortably long.
“Selene, where are you right now? I need you to come with me to a place. It’s extremely important.”
Selene frowned, concern replacing her embarrassment. She’d hardly heard her brother speak in quite this manner before. Usually he was protective but playful, but never this serious except when it was matters revolving the family.
This sounded like something significant had happened.
“I will pick you up myself. Just send me the location,” Alaric said.
“Alright.”
Selene quickly provided their current coordinates to Alaric before ending the call, her expression thoughtful as she tried to guess the reason behind the unusual urgency in her brother’s voice.
“Is everything okay? You sounded quite serious during that conversation,” Yara looked at her with concern, clearly worried that something troubling had occurred to her friend.
“No, it’s fine,” Selene assured her, shaking her head to dispel the tension. “It’s just that my brother wants to meet up with me to discuss something important. He can be… intense when he’s focused on important matters.”
A warm smile spread across Selene’s face as she deliberately returned the mood back to their original purpose.
“Anyway, have you decided which cake you’d like to try? We shouldn’t let this interrupt your first dessert experience!”
“Mm-hmm!” Yara nodded enthusiastically, her attention returning to the display case. “I would like to try the Red Velvet one. The color looks so vibrant and appealing!”
“Excellent choice, young ladies!” the elderly bakery owner chuckled warmly from behind the counter, clearly pleased by their enthusiasm. “That’s one of our most popular flavors. Perfect for a special occasion!”
After paying for two slices and drinks, the two settled at a small outdoor table in front of the bakery, the afternoon sun creating a pleasant atmosphere.
Yara picked up her fork gently. Then, she cut a small, neat piece and brought it to her mouth. The moment the cake touched her tongue, Yara’s eyes went wide. “Oh!” she exclaimed softly, her hand flying to cover her mouth in surprise.
Her expression cycled rapidly through amazement, confusion, and unrestrained delight as she tasted the complex flavors and textures she did not experience in Lunaris.
“This is…” Yara paused, chewing thoughtfully, her eyebrows raising higher with each second. “It’s sweet, but also… what is this flavor? And why is it so soft and fluffy? How do humans make food feel like the clouds above?”
She took another bite, this one larger.
“And there’s something tangy mixed in with the sweetness! How many different tastes can exist in one piece of food?!” Selene couldn’t help but burst into delighted laughter at Yara’s incredibly earnest analysis of what was, to most humans, a dessert.
“It’s called cream cheese frosting,” Selene explained between giggles. “That tangy flavor you’re noticing. And yes, human desserts tend to combine multiple flavors and textures to create something more complex than the sum of its parts.”
Yara nodded sagely, as if she were receiving crucial intelligence about human civilization.
“This is remarkable. No wonder humans have developed such advanced societies. If you can create food this sophisticated, surely you can accomplish anything! The people of the Benefactor are truly innovative, as expected.”
Selene laughed even harder at the idea that cake-making ability was directly correlated with human advancement.
“Wait until you try donuts,” she managed to say between giggles. “You might conclude we’re the most advanced species in the universe.”
Yara’s eyes lit up with the excitement of someone who’d just been promised access to forbidden knowledge.
“I can’t wait! There’s so much to discover!”
“Oh, Yara, we’re going to have so much fun exploring together. I can finally eat desserts without feeling guilty about indulging with you by my side to share the experience.”
“Excuse me, fine beauty. May I get your name?”
A male voice suddenly emerged beside their table, the tone confident and cocky.
Selene turned her gaze to find a young man around their same age standing near their table, looking at her with an expression of lust, as if he’d already decided the outcome of this interaction in his favor.
“No.” Selene responded flatly, shaking her head without any pretense of politeness.
Just from his facial expression and body language, she could easily imagine the thoughts running through his head. She could also tell from his clothing and accessories that he came from money—several B-rank items were visible, and she spotted at least a few A-rank pieces as well.
Hearing the cold tone in Selene’s rejection, the young man’s expression became darker.
“What’s wrong with your tone? Do you know who I am? You’re not even that attractive anyway—completely chopped. I was doing you a favor by showing interest! You are nothing but a—”
Before Selene could react to the escalating insults, Yara stood up smoothly from her chair.
CRACK!
Her palm connected with the young man’s cheek in a slap that echoed across the entire street like a thunderclap.
The force sent him flying several meters backward, his body crashing into a parked vehicle with enough impact to dent the metal and trigger the car’s alarm system.
Yara’s physical strength was no joke, she hit like a beast.
The surrounding area, which had been bustling with people returning to the city after the gate crisis, suddenly went dead silent as everyone stopped to stare at the scene.
The awakener’s cheek swelled instantly, turning crimson red as he held his face in shock and pain.
“Y-You! This wretched woman’s beast has gone completely berserk! Someone kill this blue demon before it attacks more people! She has lost control over her beast! I demand that beast’s death!”
