SSS Awakening: I am the First Legendary Mage
Chapter 297: SSS Rank Item [GOLDEN TICKET BONUS]
‘Looks like that black box works like an Inventory.’ Alex found the item interesting, especially because none of the Ascenders he knew could store a Wild Orc corpse inside their Inventory.
The mental strain required to store something like that was simply too much for them, so Dobe’s black box was clearly superior to their current Inventories. Of course, that might only remain true until the Ascenders became stronger and their mental strength increased enough to handle the strain.
Dobe continued collecting the Wild Orc corpses scattered around the area. Once he finished gathering everything nearby, he returned to Alex and began making several hand signals.
The gestures were crude and somewhat difficult to understand, but Alex eventually figured out that Dobe wanted to search the surrounding city for the other Wild Orc corpses that had been killed earlier. Alex considered it for a moment before nodding.
“Okay,” Alex said. Dobe immediately disappeared.
Alex waited while keeping track of the time. Exactly twenty-three seconds later, Dobe appeared in front of him again, and Alex couldn’t help staring at him in surprise.
‘Did he already collect all the corpses? How did he do it so quickly? Was that teleportation?’
‘No, that wasn’t teleportation. I saw a blur for a moment.’
‘So he’s simply moving that fast. That’s… amazing.’
His eyes began shining as he looked at the alien, and Dobe seemed to notice the unusual amount of attention he was receiving.
The young alien took a cautious step backward, apparently unsure why Alex was staring at him like that. Alex continued observing him unperturbed, trying to understand exactly how his movement worked.
‘His speed is amazing, but honestly, it isn’t that big of a deal. I’m sure we can eventually become that fast as long as we continue growing stronger. What I really want to know is how he moved that quickly without crushing the ground or creating shockwaves.’
After thinking about it for a moment, Alex finally asked, “Are you a Warrior?”
Dobe seemed to understand the word because his ears twitched once.
Alex’s eyes widened slightly. He had seen Dobe’s ears twitch several times already, and he was now almost certain that the movement was the equivalent of a nod for Dobe’s species.
However, Dobe seemed to think Alex hadn’t understood him properly, because he awkwardly nodded afterward before looking toward the air. At the same time, a notification appeared in front of Alex.
[Dobe wishes to trade 36 Wild Orc corpses with you for 170 Origin Coins.]
[Accept / Deny]
Alex frowned when he saw the amount. “Only 170 Origin Coins? Even if I exclude the one Origin Coin for the rune book, it should have been 179 Origin Coins for thirty-six corpses.”
He had always quite miserly, and it only became stricter after Jackel had explained how valuable they were.
Dobe was holding a small stick that only he knew where he had found, and he suddenly grabbed it with both hands and broke it in half before showing the broken pieces to Alex.
Alex stared at the stick for a moment before trying to understand what Dobe meant. “Are you saying some of the corpses were too damaged, so we’re getting ten fewer Origin Coins?”
Dobe’s ears twitched again, and Alex took that as confirmation. After thinking a bit, he decided to accept the deal because he hadn’t even hunted all thirty-six Wild Orcs himself, so receiving money for their corpses was already beneficial.
[170 Origin Coins gained.]
Dobe disappeared almost immediately after the transaction was completed, leaving Alex standing near the entrance.
Alex watched him leave before turning around and walking back toward the building. With the Origin Coins he had received from Dobe, he now had a total of 270 Origin Coins.
He decided not to spend them yet because he still didn’t know what sort of items he might need later. There was no reason to waste such a limited resource when he had barely begun learning about the Land of Origin.
Before returning to his room, Alex searched for Robert. He eventually found him and handed him 100 Origin Coins, making sure to explain exactly how he wanted them handled.
“Keep these. If something truly valuable appears in a Merchant shop while I’m away, you can use them to buy it. Until then, don’t spend any of these coins, and if you want something from a Merchant, try to barter with them instead,” Alex said.
Robert nodded seriously and accepted the coins. Alex trusted him enough to handle the money, but he still wanted to make sure the coins weren’t wasted on something that could be obtained through ordinary trading.
After dealing with that matter, Alex returned to his room. He looked around briefly before sitting down and taking out the rune book he had received from Jackel.
[Rune Compendium (SSS Rank)]
[If you know yourself and your enemy, you can win all wars. — Santa Claus, probably.]
[Effect: Contains knowledge about runes.]
The book was too heavy to be put into the Inventory, so Alex had to read it here. The System had already identified it as an SSS Rank item, which made Alex even more curious about the information contained inside.
The book was still written in Mirisi, but the translation effect was active, allowing Alex to understand the words on its pages. He opened it carefully.
He flipped through the pages to see what was written in it for it to cost 1000 Origin Coins.
The first few pages explained the basics of Runes and how to create them. Alex already knew most of the information, so he quickly flipped through the pages until he found something that caught his attention.
Soon, he found information about creating Runes that could be used by other people. Until now, the Runes Alex created contained his Will, which meant that nobody else could use them, so he had been curious about how Mages created Runes that anyone could activate.
He read the excerpt carefully.
—To create Runes usable by others, a Mage must first remove the soul signature from their Will and make their Will transparent.
—The steps to remove soul signature from the Will are as follows…
