Chapter 296: System Origin Coins

Jackel shook his head with a sigh, seemingly becoming more accustomed to Alex’s unusual abilities with every passing minute. While doing so, he continued patting Dobe’s head, trying to reassure the young alien that everything was fine.

"Alright, each corpse will sell for five Origin Coins," Jackel said as he took out a board and began making some calculations. "They are large creatures, but they are still only Low Rank Species. I also assume you already took their Stones, so five Origin Coins each is a fair price."

Alex nodded as Jackel continued calculating. After a few seconds, the Merchant looked up again.

"By the way, five System Origin Coins per corpse is actually quite a lot. The Origin Coins the System rewards you people with are precious, so I recommend saving as many as possible. If you want something from another Merchant, trading through barter or another type of Origin Coins approved by the Merchant Coven is usually better than spending your System Origin Coins directly," Jackel explained.

Jackel finished his calculations before looking toward Dobe. "Take Dobe with you. He will collect the corpses."

Alex nodded and stood up. He had originally planned to purchase several things from the shop, but after hearing Jackel’s warning about Origin Coins, he decided that it would be better to wait until he understood their value more clearly.

He left the shop with Dobe following behind him. As Alex reached the entrance and pushed the door open, Jackel called out from behind the counter.

"You should return to your base by flying. That will probably be the fastest way. Don’t worry about Dobe; he will meet you there."

Alex looked back at the Merchant for a moment before nodding. He still didn’t know much about these aliens, but Jackel seemed confident that Dobe could follow him.

Considering everything Alex had already witnessed, he decided that it was probably safe to trust that judgment. He stepped outside and took a deep breath before beginning to prepare the Mana Shuriken and the other components he needed for flight.

Once everything was ready, he looked toward Dobe. "I’ll see you there."

Dobe’s ears twitched slightly, and Alex wondered whether that was his way of nodding. He decided not to waste any more time trying to understand the alien’s gestures and instead turned toward the sky.

Alex began releasing kinetic energy downward, and a shockwave erupted beneath him as he shot into the air. This time, the speed at which he ascended was much more manageable because he had already learned from his previous mistake.

He released the kinetic energy gradually instead of allowing too much energy to escape at once. After reaching a suitable height, Alex stabilized himself and adjusted the flow of kinetic mana around his body.

Once he was satisfied with his control, he turned toward the direction of his base and accelerated. The city rapidly passed beneath him as Alex flew through the night sky, but he continued using Mana Spheres while traveling.

The spheres spread through the surrounding area and detected dungeons, monsters, and unusual concentrations of energy. Alex didn’t find any dungeons during his journey, but he did discover several groups of monsters attacking survivors, and he swiftly eliminated them while continuing toward the high school.

He didn’t slow down much while fighting because most of the monsters were far weaker than him. His Mana Spheres detected their positions before he reached them, allowing him to prepare his attacks in advance and eliminate them without wasting much time.

By the time Alex reached the high school, he had already dealt with every monster he had encountered along the way. He descended toward the main gate and landed near the entrance, and several notifications immediately appeared in front of him.

[Mana Shuriken Spell has leveled up. Level 6 → Level 7.]

[Mana Sphere Spell has leveled up. Level 5 → Level 6.]

Alex was pleased when he saw the notifications. His spells were leveling up at a good pace.

He looked around and quickly noticed Dobe standing nearby. The young alien was staring at the corpses of the Wild Orcs that Alex had left behind, while several Ascenders were pointing their weapons at him and keeping a cautious distance.

Dobe didn’t seem particularly concerned by the weapons. He simply stood there and looked at the corpses, apparently waiting for Alex to return.

"He is with a Merchant. Don’t attack him," Alex said. The group immediately noticed him and lowered their weapons.

The Ascender standing at the front was the Mirror Spearman who had been guarding Alex’s room earlier that day. He quickly stepped forward and saluted Alex before speaking.

"Sir, did you bring the Merchant here to sell the corpses?" the Mirror Spearman asked. His expression was serious, and he seemed much more formal than he had been when Alex first met him.

"Yes. We needed to deal with them because they could have spread diseases, and since I killed them here, I decided to search for a Merchant instead of leaving the corpses behind," Alex explained.

The Mirror Spearman nodded, although his expression remained serious. "Sir, please don’t take everything on yourself. You’ve already saved us by defeating these Wild Orcs, and we are very thankful for that, but you don’t need to handle every problem alone."

Alex nodded when he saw the sincerity in the man’s expression. The Mirror Spearman had seemed fairly relaxed and somewhat na?ve when Alex met him inside the building, but he looked completely different now that he was outside and responsible for protecting the survivors.

Alex didn’t say anything more and walked toward Dobe. The alien looked at him before pointing toward one of the Wild Orc corpses, seemingly asking whether he could begin collecting them.

Alex nodded, and Dobe immediately reached toward a small pouch attached to his clothing. He pulled out a black box and held it above the corpse, causing the enormous body to suddenly disappear into the box.
