Chapter 1329 - 1305: Motive for Murder
Chapter 1329: Chapter 1305: Motive for Murder
The scattered gaze suddenly focused, staring fixedly at Shao Qinyi. The resentful eyes seemed to accuse, viciously wanting to swallow the shadow of the gaze whole.
Shao Qinyi slapped his palm over Shao Weihua’s eyes, and with his right hand, he gripped the sharp weapon and twisted it forcefully. After a few spasms, the person beneath him stopped moving altogether.
To think that the person who would ultimately kill Shao Weihua with his own hands would be himself. Shao Qinyi knelt on the ground, sitting dazed for a while. He released his hand, looking wide-eyed and terrifying.
This is what it means to die with one’s eyes open! Shao Qinyi thought as he looked at those eyes. What was Shao Weihua thinking at the moment of his death? Hatred towards him, or a plea for help?
No matter which it was, he was someone who had to die. Shao Qinyi found such an excuse to comfort himself. What it felt like to kill his own brother with his own hands, he felt nothing at all now.
"Report!" Just as Shao Qinyi stood up from the ground, someone came running back from the front.
"Where are the people?" Shao Qinyi forcefully pulled out the sharp weapon lodged in Shao Weihua’s throat and placed it in a plastic bag.
"The other side arranged a car in advance to assist, so..."
"So by that you mean you didn’t catch anyone, is that right!" Shao Qinyi’s voice suddenly turned cold.
"Subordinate is incapable, please let the military committee punish." Upon hearing this, the latter immediately felt their scalp tingle, not knowing how to respond.
"Have them come back and take away the body."
"Yes!"
After sending the people away, Shao Qinyi stood solemnly in front of Shao Weihua’s body. His expression was serious and grave, as if saying a final farewell, muttering under his breath.
None of his subordinates dared to disturb him at this time. The rumor that Shao Weihua and Shao Qinyi were brothers was an open secret within the military committee. Now that Shao Weihua had died violently in the street, it was natural for Shao Qinyi to be in a foul mood as a brother.
For a long time, Shao Qinyi turned and walked out of the alley step by step. He summoned a person to take him to the last location where the murderer had fled.
This was a T-junction. According to his subordinates, at that time they had chased the suspect to the place where he now stood, and the suspect stumbled towards the street, boarded a car on the side of a straight channel, and escaped.
"Was there anyone in the car at that time?" Shao Qinyi looked at the terrain. He was now standing at the vertical direction of the T-junction, and the suspect’s car could have been parked between two exits, suggesting an escape in either direction.
"Report to the officer, there was no one in the car at that time."
Shao Qinyi walked to the opposite side of the street. In the place where the car had stopped, he looked around. Three meters away from the parking spot was a surveillance camera. Shao Qinyi pointed there and told his subordinate, "Investigate all the video footage from three hours before and after this time period. If there was no one waiting for the suspect, then it means the car was arranged beforehand. The car wouldn’t have driven itself here. I need to know who was driving."
After his subordinates left, Shao Qinyi took out the disassembled gun shell, frowning.
Was the suspect an expert in dismantling? The voice just now sounded very much like Wang Zhanting’s silhouette, but it was never heard that he had ever been in the military. People who don’t play with guns wouldn’t disassemble firearms. Who exactly is this person?
Just when Shao Qinyi was puzzled, Xiao Lin and Hua Qingyi returned to the original place in the dark alley. Xiao Lin picked up the remaining firearm wreckage on the ground and handed it to Hua Qingyi. Then he glanced at the clutter knocked over during the escape. He leapt up, seeing Wang Zhanting’s footprints in escape, everything seemed deliberately left for gathering evidence, but the firearm left perplexing clues.
"Even though Shao Weihua is dead, you let Wang Zhanting go. I really can’t understand it. Why did you leave him behind instead?" Hua Qingyi felt a bit uncomfortable inside. Even though Wang Zhantian was dead, the vendetta for hiring someone to kill his father was settled, but Wang Zhanting was part of it too, albeit indirectly. As long as this person was not eliminated, it was hard for him to digest the matter completely.
Xiao Lin patted Hua Qingyi on the shoulder. "Shao Weihua was someone Quan Xianglin was going to abandon anyway. His death was his own doing, so his death won’t cause us much trouble. But Wang Zhanting is different; killing him would be troublesome for us, not to mention he can help us find Mu Rongyun."
"But you left evidence for Shao Qinyi to catch Wang Zhanting. Isn’t that contradictory?"
"The one who killed Shao Weihua is Shao Qinyi. He will definitely attribute this crime to Wang Zhanting, who has solid factual basis." Xiao Lin hooked his arm around Hua Qingyi’s shoulder. "Do you know how the Emperor hunts? Drive the prey into a dead corner, then the Emperor personally shoots the prey, ensuring both dignity and a sure hit. That’s what we need to do now."
Hua Qingyi seemed to understand but didn’t at the same time, yet there was no time for him to ponder, as Lao Jiu and Yelu Shou had already approached them.
"You two have worked hard!" Xiao Lin smiled at the two who seemed quite unhappy. "Where is Wang Zhanting staying now?"
"He went straight out of town, heading towards the outskirts. Brother Zimu is already responsible for tracking him, so we came back," Lao Jiu quickly spoke before Yelu Shou.
"On our way back, we noticed Shao Qinyi was still at the Nail Intersection, with some gun parts in his hand," Yelu Shou glared at Lao Jiu and continued. "I think the police will intervene next; the bodies in the bar will be discovered, and the impact of the dead bosses..."
"We have a scapegoat, don’t we?"
Instead of Xiao Lin, it was Lao Jiu who answered, proudly eyeing Yelu Shou. Just as it seemed the two were about to fight, Xiao Lin grinned, hooking each of them by the shoulder and walking them outside.
That night was long! But for some, it was a night of gains, a night to celebrate. Yet for others, it was a sleepless night.
The morning brought a heavy downpour! Rinsing the entire land, the torrential rain seemed intent on washing the whole city clean, with no pause.
Xiao Lin stood at the office window, knowing that after this rain, not a trace would remain in that alley, whether beneficial or detrimental, all would be completely washed away, unintentionally complicating the investigation for the police.
By now, Wang Zhanting on the run should have crossed the border of Palermo. Judging by his escape path, he seems to be heading towards the mountainous area, which is Italy’s natural reserve, dense with forests, and steep mountains.
Typically, a fugitive wouldn’t choose such complex terrain, let alone a foreigner. This certainly made Xiao Lin speculate whether Mu Rongyun was hiding there, yet upon further thought, it seemed unlikely, considering Mu Rongyun’s physiological limitations.
"Lin, Director Meisai wants to see you," Hua Qingyi knocked and came in, followed by Meisai.
Xiao Lin seemed to have anticipated his arrival, showing no surprise. He led Meisai to the lounge area to sit, and Hua Qingyi naturally sat to Xiao Lin’s left. "Director, what’s brought you to me this time? I’ve been quite well-behaved lately."
"Young Master Xiao jests. I’m here to discuss a few matters," Meisai laughed awkwardly. "I received a murder case this morning, a victim with whom Young Master Xiao isn’t unfamiliar, and the informant’s identity is very special. We’ve already opened an investigation."
"The deceased is someone I know? Who?"
"Shao Weihua, your arch-enemy." Meisai briefly recounted the earlier visit from Shao Qinyi and handed over the murder weapon collected at that time. "As a member of Dragon Soul, Young Master Xiao, do you recognize this unusual method of disassembling a gun?"
Xiao Lin glanced at the plastic bag and put it back. "Although Shao Weihua is my arch-enemy, I had no intent to kill him. This disassembly method is mostly used by special forces. Perhaps, Director, you could explore that direction."
"Special forces? That would rule out suspicion on our side of the Mafia," Meisai seemed relieved upon hearing this. "Recently, this deceased person caused quite a stir in Palermo. I initially thought it was the work of gang members. You know, the legendary treasures are more important than life for these people."
Meisai was quite vague, implying that as long as there weren’t any casualties or large-scale harm, the police would turn a blind eye. However, the deceased’s identity was special beyond that; more importantly, he happened to have two of the legendary treasures in his possession, prompting Meisai to seek out Nicholas for questioning.
"With that suspicion, shouldn’t the Director be going to the Godfather instead of me?"
"I’ve already been to Nicholas; he admitted that Shao Weihua approached him earlier trying to use treasure to compel him to help, but he refused," said Meisai honestly without any intent of deceit. "This makes Nicholas’s suspicion weighty, as Shao Weihua posed a threat to the stability of his throne, giving Nicholas a motive to kill him, though the Godfather has an alibi."
"Oh? Could the Director share who Nicholas’s alibi is, that you trust so much?" Xiao Lin inquired curiously.
"It’s your third brother." Xiao Lin responded with an "oh," gesturing Meisai to continue.
"With Nicholas ruled out, I think the only one who can contend with him in all of Palermo is ’Vaganjay.’ So, when I went to look for Dong San Province, I found out he returned to the Dan Clan a week earlier and currently isn’t in Palermo, making it impossible for him to have time to kill Shao Weihua, so..."
"So, Sin City here is the Director’s final stop," Xiao Lin interrupted Meisai, chuckling as he took a sip of tea. "I’m quite grateful for the Director’s trust; I thought you’d be the first to come for me, given I’m the one with the strongest motive to want Shao Weihua dead." (To be continued.
