Chapter 1326: Chapter 1302: Naked Threat
As the saying goes, "A wise man knows how to adapt to circumstances," but this saying holds no meaning whatsoever when it comes to Shao Weihua. No matter how Shao Qinyi tries to persuade or entice him, he pretends not to hear, and the thought of making a comeback never ceases in his heart.
Wang Zhanting feels helpless about Shao Weihua’s persistence, yet he has no choice but to obey. Such a submissive act is seen as quite suspicious in Shao Qinyi’s eyes, and he repeatedly warns Shao Weihua to be wary of Wang Zhanting, but his cautions are always rebuffed.
With no other option, Shao Qinyi invites Wang Zhanting to meet at a small coffee shop.
Today, a light rain is falling from the sky, and the rain isn’t very strong. The weather forecast is accurate; due to the influence of a typhoon on the sea, the coming days will pass with such moderate rainfall.
Shao Qinyi waits for Wang Zhanting in a corner seat of the shop, the ashtray overflowing with cigarette butts. In such weather, his entire mood turns gloomy too. A foreboding feeling lingers in his heart that something will occur in the next few days. Just as he finds his thought exaggerated, Wang Zhanting enters, walking in by himself and sitting across from him.
Shao Qinyi was bound to seek him out sooner or later; Wang Zhanting never doubted it. On the surface, this man appears sly and cunning, but in truth, he spares no effort for his family. His malice is directed only at outsiders, never his own. To be honest, Wang Zhanting envies Shao Weihua for having such a brother, regretfully unappreciated.
"What business do you have with me, Shao Junwei?" Despite having a favorable opinion of this person, that’s all it is—favorable opinion. He knows very well this person harbors no good intentions toward him, and meeting today might just lay out the final cards.
"Minister Wang, there’s no need for formalities between us. We’ve crossed paths quite often in the municipal committee, we’re something akin to acquaintances." Shao Qinyi speaks in his usual tone.
"No need to call me Minister Wang anymore. It’s been a while since I was pulled down from the municipal committee by Xiao Lin, I haven’t been a minister for a long time." Wang Zhanting faces Shao Qinyi with a smile, a tactic he always uses when facing opponents he cannot see through, especially with someone like Shao Qinyi who holds some standing. As the saying goes, "Never hit a smiling face," and it’s perfectly apt for the situation now.
"Go ahead, tell me why you’re looking for me this time. I don’t think we have anything to discuss."
The café, despite the dreadful weather, is unusually crowded. People passing by often interrupt their conversation. Shao Qinyi intended to propose changing locations, but Wang Zhanting refused.
"Shao Junwei, just get to the point. Whether there are many people here or not doesn’t affect us. Or do you have other plans? Any place we go will be similar to here."
"Shao Weihua is my elder brother; this is something you should be well aware of, Mr. Wang." Shao Qinyi shrugs at Wang Zhanting’s words, not bothering with trivial arguments.
Wang Zhanting nods, looking at Shao Qinyi in confusion. "That’s an open secret; everyone knows that."
"Very well, since you know, you should be clear that I don’t like anyone making unfriendly moves against him."
"Are you suspecting me, Shao Junwei?" Upon hearing this, Wang Zhanting raises his voice slightly, the sound tinged with grievance and anger.
Shao Qinyi chuckles a few times, mocking Wang Zhanting’s reaction. "Wang Zhanting, there’s no one else here, so don’t act for me. I asked you out today to tell you not to whisper into Shao Weihua’s ear and do things that harm others without benefiting yourself."
"Shao Junwei, do you think all of Mr. Shao’s actions are because of what I said? Isn’t that too arbitrary? Everything I did was as per his direct orders, just like we agreed when I left Yanjing. Now you turn things around and accuse me, which is hard for me to accept."
"You may have saved Shao Weihua a few times, but I also have some things to prove your ulterior motives." Shao Qinyi spreads his hands indifferently to Wang Zhanting’s rebuttals. "Now Palermo is in chaos; the turmoil induced by the emergence of the legendary treasure is gathering in secret and could erupt at any time. In such a moment, I’m warning you, Mr. Wang, to do your duties well, or you might be the first to die in the chaos."
This was a blatant threat, and Wang Zhanting, being clever, couldn’t miss Shao Qinyi’s implication. He frowns, feigning difficulty. "Shao Junwei, I’ve understood your words, but this isn’t something I can decide alone. You should understand Mr. Shao’s stubbornness better than I do. How can what he wants to do be something I can stop?"
Shao Qinyi waves a hand to stop Wang Zhanting from continuing. He wouldn’t allow anyone to speak ill of Shao Weihua in front of him; to date, besides Quan Xianglin, no one had dared criticize Shao Weihua to his face. "Mr. Wang, it’s none of your business to comment on what kind of person Shao Weihua is. You do your duty, and I’ll handle the rest myself."
Shao Qinyi is clearly furious now, prompting Wang Zhanting to quickly nod with a conciliatory smile. "Yes, Shao Junwei. I know how to handle what you said, but if I do my duties, please also manage your end well. Otherwise, it will put Zhanting in a difficult position. If Mr. Shao continues to act on his whims, then I’m powerless. Don’t blame me then. Our Wang Family cooperates with your work, not works for you. It’s our assets that you are using now."
"Is there still such a title as the Wang Family? Mr. Wang, you haven’t returned to Yanjing for a long time, have you? The former four major families in Yanjing have long been replaced. At best, you’re just a wealthy Wang now. If it weren’t for the chairman considering your family’s past contributions, your family would’ve been swallowed up long ago. Would they leave you to threaten me with such a ludicrous title?"
Shao Qinyi paused, taking a sip of coffee, studying the resentful face of Wang Zhanting. The perennial smile he wore was completely shattered by Shao Qinyi’s words, unable to maintain his facade of hypocrisy. "Remember, if Shao Weihua gets into danger over the treasure, I can assure you, you’ll be the first to die before him. Whether these two things come out depends on how long you can live."
After finishing, Shao Qinyi picked up the bill on the table and went to the counter, leaving Wang Zhanting alone. Shao Qinyi wasn’t joking about the threat, and while Wang Zhanting was shocked by this threat, giving up wasn’t an option for him. (To be continued.
