Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station
Chapter 1357 - 377: Climate Transformation_3
What else could he say.
All he could do was casually say, "It’s fine. The underground ecosystem is very stable and won’t be affected."
The person from the Climate Transformation Department seemed like he wanted to say something, to correct Chen Ming’s wording.
After all, in his view, climate transformation was inherently a dangerous endeavor, one that would have an almost irreversible major impact on a Planet’s climate.
No matter what the Planet’s original climate was like, the post-transformation climate would undergo extremely major changes, and it was perfectly normal for the original ecosystem to suffer a devastating blow.
So almost all the Planets they had carried out climate transformation on were Planets that originally had no biosphere, so that no matter the result, there would be no impact.
Whereas if it was a Planet that already had a biosphere.
Whether they succeeded or failed, the outcome could be very bad.
But they really did need clients right now.
So even though the data Chen Ming sent over appeared problematic, they did not correct him to his face, but instead chose a more indirect way to say they would verify it.
When Chen Ming said things that exceeded their understanding like this, they didn’t show any reaction either.
In any case, a contract would be signed in the end; if something went wrong, it couldn’t be pinned on them.
The researcher on the other end of the line, from the Environment Ministry’s subordinate unit, swallowed what he considered a problem and said, "One last question. When you say ’the Planet possesses extremely strong ecological regulatory capability,’ what do you mean by that?"
"Exactly what it says. I already told you, you don’t need to worry about the original ecology. As long as you can find a way to restore the surface ecology, then just do it."
The researcher was really having trouble holding himself back.
Ecological regulatory capability was an objective phenomenon determined by the actual state of the ecological environment; it didn’t mean the Planet could regulate its own ecological environment.
He really wanted to say that. But to avoid scaring off the client, he didn’t.
He’d seen plenty of cases of laymen instructing professionals; one more wouldn’t kill him.
Chen Ming could more or less guess what the people at the Environment Ministry were thinking, but he simply couldn’t be bothered to argue. Facts would prove him right later.
"Wait a moment."
The researcher from the Climate Transformation Department suddenly sounded a bit odd as he asked, "You’re called Chen Ming, correct?"
"Yeah. What about it?"
"That Chen Ming?"
"..."
Chen Ming fell silent for a moment and didn’t respond.
But he heard some noisy commotion on the other end of the line, as though several people were bustling around nearby.
At this moment, in the office of the Climate Transformation Department under the Empire’s Ministry of Ecological Environment—
The researcher who had just been on the phone with Chen Ming hurriedly muted the Communication Device and looked at his colleague’s computer.
On the screen were a few publicly accessible files about Chen Ming.
There weren’t many, but combined with some rumors they’d occasionally heard, they realized that today’s client seemed to be someone they absolutely could not afford to offend—and this big client apparently had capabilities in some areas that surpassed their own.
Their inability to understand wasn’t because the person was wrong, but because they themselves were too incompetent.
The researcher from just now was on the verge of tears as he anxiously asked, "What do we do?"
"Call the boss. He might know what to do."
A short while later, that researcher suddenly adopted a new, enthusiastic tone, no longer the purely businesslike attitude from before, and said to Chen Ming, "So it really is you..."
"And?"
"We’re terribly sorry, Mr. Chen Ming. I’d like to ask you again: what you just mentioned, is it related to Spiritual Energy?"
Chen Ming didn’t press him on anything. Sticking to the issue itself, he said, "I can’t be sure. First of all, I genuinely don’t know the status of the star in that Star System."
"As for the Planet itself, I’m not sure whether it’s related to Spiritual Energy either. But I can confirm that the Planet is special: it possesses Self-consciousness and can actively regulate the Planet’s conditions."
The researcher took a deep breath and said, "I’m sorry, Mr. Chen Ming. All those questions just now were entirely due to my own lack of knowledge, they were all my fault. For this climate transformation, we can provide our services free of charge. Please forgive us."
"It’s fine. I don’t mind."
Since they’d put it that way, Chen Ming certainly wasn’t going to make a fuss for no reason.
The researcher let out a sigh of relief. Recalling what their boss had just told him, he tentatively asked Chen Ming, "May we have your permission to first conduct a period of on-site inspection on the Planet you mentioned?"
"That Star System you mentioned is rather unusual, and we may need some time to verify whether climate transformation can be carried out."
"We... are very sorry. Before we’ve had any direct contact with that Planet, we really can’t give you an accurate answer."
"That’s fine too."
Chen Ming didn’t hear anything wrong in that and agreed to their request.
He told the Climate Transformation Department to prepare the necessary personnel and facilities; he would transport everyone to the destination when the time came.
With the climate transformation matter settled,
Chen Ming immediately moved seamlessly on to the next issue.
Namely, contacting the Survivor side to continue their previous conversation.
At the end of their last exchange, the Survivors had proactively提出 a trade request, which Chen Ming had put off on the grounds that the Empire needed to discuss it.
It was about time to give them an answer.
Chen Ming was still staying underground on the Gaia Planet; he could only say that this Planet felt far too comfortable, to the point that he didn’t want to leave at all.
There, he took out his Communication Device and said to the Survivors, "We’ve finished our internal discussions. We’re willing to conduct a trade with you."
