Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station
Chapter 1353: Gaia Planet_3
Even the climate analysis device installed on the Supreme Point’s sensor found that, apart from extreme temperatures and violent winds caused by blizzards, every other indicator was incredibly suitable for human survival on this planet.
After confirming that the sensor was not malfunctioning, Chen Ming still couldn’t quite comprehend the situation.
He wasn’t sure whether this was a good thing or a bad thing.
But irrespective of that, Chen Ming would have to land and take a look.
Soon, as the altitude of the Supreme Point decreased, Chen Ming discovered that the issue he had to face was not the blizzard on the planet.
Rather, it was the issue of landing the Supreme Point.
When the spacecraft lands, the cushion engine nozzles at its bottom will melt the snow on the planet’s surface.
If there were only a few meters or dozens of meters of snow, it would be fine; the Supreme Point could maneuver slightly to melt all the snow under the spacecraft and land.
But the average depth of snow on this planet is at least several hundred meters, and after a rough scan by the Supreme Point, Chen Ming also discovered that beneath the snow, the terrain was distinctly uneven, making it impossible to find a place to land.
And this uneven terrain is not a result of rugged topography, nor is it affected by solid ice.
Rather, it’s because beneath the snow in this area where the Supreme Point is descending, there is a frozen jungle.
A jungle featuring innumerable trees hundreds of meters tall.
The snow accumulates from the roots to the crowns of the trees, stacking dozens of meters higher, forming the topmost layer of snow Chen Ming sees now.
Once the shallow layer of snow is melted, Chen Ming can barely see the treetops of the giant trees still standing firm amidst the blizzard.
And these treetops of towering trees hundreds of meters high are themselves obstructing the landing of Chen Ming’s spacecraft.
This distance was enough for Chen Ming to do something.
He immediately increased the output power of the sensor, aiming to ascertain the scale of this giant forest and find a suitable landing spot.
But the scan results from the spacecraft did not reveal any suitable location; everywhere within sight was covered by this forest of giant trees.
However.
The scan results from the spacecraft also revealed another piece of information.
Which is that underground, deep beneath this jungle, there exists a vibrant world hidden beneath the ice and snow.
It’s a world filled with green, blue, and purple at first glance.
Green and purple are vegetation, while blue is the glow from luminescent plants and fungi spread throughout the underground world, illuminating what should have been a pitch-black underground as brightly as the surface.
The environment of this underground world bears resemblance to any habitable planet Chen Ming has seen.
Everywhere visible to the naked eye was dense with vegetation and a myriad of animal species, teeming with vibrant life.
Moreover, the climate in the underground environment is very mild.
The freezing conditions of the surface seemingly have no effect on the underground.
And during Chen Ming’s exploration, the heat source of this underground world appears to come from geothermal energy deeper underground.
No matter how cold the surface gets, underneath the protective layer of solid ground and the towering trees sustaining this underground world, it remains warm.
The underground world is a secluded paradise.
Previously, Chen Ming knew of an underground ecosystem, but the one he’s seeing now is vastly different.
That ecosystem came about due to the natural geographic conditions of the planet, located in almost entirely cavernous regions deep underground throughout the planet.
The dominant tone of that ecosystem was sheer darkness, with countless ferocious predators lurking within.
Every creature in that ecosystem, whether plant or animal, possessed weapons to fend off more powerful organisms.
Because creatures without the ability to resist wouldn’t survive in such an environment.
Once, Chen Ming had killed a Psychic who wielded a weapon made from the bones of one of those predators known as the Night Owl, a spiritual energy-bearing organism of that unique ecosystem.
Although Chen Ming had long since discarded that weapon, he still remembered things about the Night Owl and that unique ecosystem.
Chen Ming contemplated for a moment and decided not to attempt landing the Supreme Point.
Because from the scan by the Supreme Point, almost all land on this planet was covered by those giant trees.
Only the presently frozen oceans had landing possibilities.
So Chen Ming simply chose not to land.
He donned his biological armor, which had undergone initial optimization using the power armor technology of the Shimmering Civilization, and leaped from high altitude.
Watching the blizzard swirling outside.
For a fleeting moment, Chen Ming seemed to sense that the planet below him was weeping.
Before he could confirm this sensation, he plunged into the several hundred meters deep snow.
Chen Ming quickly found one of the giant trees buried under the snow, and followed the trunk, excavating deep into the snow and further into the underground.
The passage he dug was swiftly covered by snow, and the temperature sensor of his armor was indicating that the outside temperature was rapidly rising.
The planet’s soil and giant trees possessed extraordinarily strong insulation properties.
Just a mere few dozen meters of separation brings the surface and underground temperature difference to over a hundred degrees Celsius.
Chen Ming recorded the various data he personally investigated while incessantly analyzing the soil of this planet and the tree samples he had just acquired.
It could be said that the composition of the soil on this planet doesn’t differ significantly from any habitable planet, but it certainly seems highly suitable for life.
