Sovereign of the Ashes
Chapter 2042: Inert Energy
At that moment, the God of Blazing Fire had two divine relics within his body.
The one Marduk had just struck was the God of Blazing Fire’s own divine relic.
It was already difficult for two wills to coexist within the same body, especially when one had effectively taken possession of it, as Marduk had done to the God of Blazing Fire.
Although the God of Blazing Fire was one of Marduk’s subordinate deities and had initially been willing to sacrifice himself for his homeplane, his true consciousness was now filled with nothing but terror and confusion.
Since Marduk’s divine consciousness now held the dominant position, the fragment of the God of Blazing Fire’s true consciousness that had been blasted out by the explosion quickly fell silent and dissipated.
The sudden release of inert energy particles drew attention from more than just the ring of powerhouses surrounding Sein.
The moment those dense energy particles erupted across the battlefield, nearly all the high-ranking Insectoids fighting nearby froze for an instant.
The bony spines along the backs of many Insectoids immediately bristled.
Their craving for inert crystals was almost pathological, bordering on addiction.
Ordinary energy crystals and rare metals could help the Insectoids produce and breed vast numbers of offspring and specialized units, allowing their race to expand rapidly in terms of quantity.
However, if they wished to achieve further growth in quality, they had to rely on inert crystals.
More than ninety-nine percent of the civilizations in the Astral Realm, including the Magus Civilization, the Immortal Realm Civilization, and the Amenkha Empire, utilized active energy.
Ordinary energy crystals, planar cores, and soul energy were all considered forms of active energy.
Yet the Insectoids alone depended on inert crystals, which were notoriously difficult to activate or utilize, to support the continued development of their race and civilization.
This was undeniably strange.
The Tide Crystal, once revered as a sacred artifact by the Insectoids, was one special type of inert crystal.
The main reason the Insectoids had first left the Magus Civilization and ventured into distant star domains was to search for new Tide Crystal veins.
The inert crystals discovered by Sein and the Magus Civilization within the ruins of the Eiyurant Papillon Civilization were not Tide Crystals. They belonged to an entirely different branch of inert crystals.
These special crystals had gradually formed over tens of thousands of years through the accumulation and sedimentation of energy crystals produced by the Infinite Energy Device, an ancient creation of the Eiyurant Papillon Civilization.
In fact, even if the Eiyurant Papillon Civilization could somehow be brought back from the endless river of time, it was unlikely that they would be able to reproduce these inert crystals.
As for the Infinite Energy Device itself, without the key scientists who had created it, whether another one could ever be built remained uncertain.
Sein’s Magic Cube, however, contained a portion of the laws in the replica of the Infinite Energy Device. Perhaps this would present him with another opportunity in the future...
The burst of energy from the inert crystals immediately drew the attention of the powerful Insectoids fighting across the surrounding battlefields.
Even as their battles raged on, Sein’s image flashed through the minds of these high-ranking Insectoids.
They all had some impression of him. After all, Sein had already caught the Empress of Blades’ attention at the beginning of the war in Divine Descendants World.
Through their unique brainwaves and the bond engraved deep within their bloodline, the Insectoids could exchange information almost instantly.
This was one of the reasons the swarm possessed such terrifying combat power and always gave the impression of being endless.
Whenever a weakness appeared or a breach opened in the enemy’s formation, the Insectoids were always the first to swarm through it.
When Sein had used the inert crystals as disposable fuel for his attacks, the Insectoids saw it as nothing short of a terrible waste. They wished they could have eaten those crystals themselves!
The high-ranking Insectoids were not the only ones who sensed the inert energy fluctuations. At the very center of the overlord-level battlefield, the Empress of Blades sensed them as well.
As the ruler of the Insectoids, she could naturally identify that familiar energy if she focused on it.
Reports from the surrounding Insectoid forces also reached her almost instantly.
Unable to restrain herself, the Empress of Blades slightly eased the pressure she was placing on Marduk and glanced toward the corner of the battlefield where Sein was fighting.
Ah, so it came from that guy. Did he also take part in the exploration of the Eiyurant Papillon Civilization’s ruins that my sister mentioned?
Once this war is over, I’ll get a sample of those inert crystals from him and examine them.
As that thought crossed her mind, the Empress of Blades’ crimson tongue unconsciously slid across her red lips.
Such rare crystals...
The slight pause in her movements naturally did not escape Marduk.
At that moment, the Ark carrying him was already on the verge of collapse.
Countless fragments had scattered across the overlord-level battlefield, while vast amounts of its origin laws continued to leak away.
This world-class secret treasure was close to being destroyed completely!
When the Empress of Blades looked down, Marduk instinctively followed her gaze.
He, too, noticed the Magus Civilization mage currently battling the God of Blazing Fire.
Once Marduk’s secondary divine relics separated from his main body, the connection between the overgod’s consciousness and those strands of divine consciousness weakened considerably.
For the time being, each strand could be treated as an independent entity.
Even Marduk himself could not immediately tell what was happening on Sein’s side of the battlefield.
However, when he saw Sein fused with Fermera, his brow furrowed slightly, as though something had just occurred to him.
“Letting your mind wander in the middle of a battle isn’t very wise. Are you that eager to die?” the Empress of Blades sneered.
Several sharp bone-like appendanges pierced through the Ark’s barrier once more and drove straight into Marduk’s flesh!
He had not even noticed when the Empress of Blades reappeared beside him.
Most of the time, Marduk could not even follow her movements. That was precisely why he had always known he was no match for her.
Golden divine blood poured from his body once again, soaking the Ark, which was already on the verge of collapse.
With a low growl, Marduk gathered what little power he had left and struck at the Empress of Blades’ head.
She dodged the attack with ease.
By this point in the battle, Marduk had already expended nearly all of his overlord soul. But how much had the Empress of Blades used?
Two percent? Or perhaps five?
The sheer disparity between them drove Marduk into madness. He charged toward the Empress of Blades with no regard for his own life.
Halfway through his charge, however, a thought suddenly flashed through his mind.
Marduk abruptly changed direction, steering the battered Ark toward the area the Empress of Blades had glanced at moments earlier!
Even if he could not seriously injure her, Marduk was determined to unleash one final wave of destruction upon Divine Descendants World.
He even felt the urge to release the last of his power, together with the Ark’s remaining energy, and smash Divine Descendants World into pieces.
Even if he died, he would make sure no one else could claim it!
