Sovereign of the Ashes
Chapter 2041: Strand of Divine Consciousness
“So this is what made my Ark sense the possibility of advancing? I thought it came from the weapons wielded by those two Rank Seven overlords...” the God of Blazing Fire murmured, his deep crimson eyes fixed on the Magic Cube radiating a breathtaking blue-violet glow.
At that moment, Marduk’s divine consciousness had taken control of the God of Blazing Fire’s body.
Although it represented only a tiny fraction of Marduk’s will, this strand of divine consciousness had inherited some of his memories and possessed a certain degree of independent thought.
The instant Marduk saw the Magic Cube before him, radiating the aura of unique technology and magitech laws, everything became clear!
An expression of pain and regret immediately flashed across the God of Blazing Fire’s face.
If only he had discovered it sooner and found a way to seize the Magic Cube from this insignificant Rank Five creature at the beginning of the war, he might have been able to help the Ark advance into the ranks of high-tier world-class secret treasures.
He would not dare hope that it could defeat the Empress of Blades, but at the very least, his own chances of escaping would have increased by twenty percent!
The God of Blazing Fire’s sudden change in expression and those deep crimson eyes filled Sein with immense unease.
This was Sein’s first time facing an overlord-level powerhouse.
Even though it was merely a sliver of Marduk’s divine consciousness, the immense might the overgod had accumulated over hundreds of thousands of years still placed tremendous pressure on Sein, a mage who had not even reached ten thousand years of age.
The Faceless Mask immediately amplified Sein’s pyro elemental mana to its absolute limit.
One elemental law disc after another appeared before him, densely packed together.
As Sein pointed his magic scepter forward, every law disc unleashed a spine-chilling beam of elemental light.
Faced with the barrage of magical attacks, Marduk, now controlling the God of Blazing Fire’s body, merely snorted coldly.
In the next instant, a vast tide of scorching flames erupted from the God of Blazing Fire’s body like surging volcanic lava.
As expected of someone possessing a peak Rank Six pyro-attribute secondary divine relic, Marduk’s control over fire was clearly far superior to that of the God of Blazing Fire himself, even though his primary divine power was not based on pyro elemental laws.
Meanwhile, the chaotic battle raging across Divine Descendants World was growing increasingly fierce.
Sein’s battle against the God of Blazing Fire was taking place relatively close to the overlord-level battlefield. As a result, the chances of this strand of Marduk’s divine consciousness escaping had fallen to almost zero.
Around the outer edges of the overlord-level battlefield, the Dawn Emperor, the demon overlord, and the others had already joined the pursuit of Marduk’s secondary divine relics. They were also the main force preventing Marduk’s clones from escaping.
With nowhere left to flee, both Marduk’s main body and the sliver of his divine consciousness within the God of Blazing Fire were now putting up a desperate fight.
Facing Sein’s magical assault, Marduk pushed the God of Blazing Fire’s pyro elemental power to its absolute limit and charged straight toward him!
Even though he had failed to obtain the Magic Cube earlier, Marduk still wanted to touch this special artifact, one capable of transforming his Ark, with his own hands before he died.
Perhaps after killing the Rank Five mage before him, this strand of divine consciousness would be torn apart by the Magus Civilization powerhouses surrounding the battlefield. Even so, Marduk refused to perish with regrets.
As the pyro elemental power erupting from the God of Blazing Fire climbed far beyond its previous limit, Sethem, who had been watching from the sidelines, quickly realized that something was wrong.
Sethem reached into the dimensional space beside him and drew out a jet-black greatsword. Faint demonic runes flickered across its surface as dark red Hellfire quietly ignited along the blade.
“Do you need my help?” Sethem asked.
He was not the only one prepared to intervene. Yuri, the God of Black Mist, and several others on the surrounding battlefield also looked ready to join the fight.
Sein glanced at the shadow of the planetary fortress drawing closer through the distant sky before replying, “I’ll try fighting him myself first. If I really can’t hold out, I’ll have to trouble you all.”
Sein wanted to test himself against a stronger opponent. Fighting this strand of Marduk’s divine consciousness offered him a rare opportunity to observe the profound mysteries of advanced pyro elemental laws up close.
Meanwhile, both the Faceless Mask and the Magic Cube had already activated their recording functions.
This would undoubtedly be a battle Sein would revisit many times in the future.
With a pillar of searing flames rising around him once more, the God of Blazing Fire became several times more difficult to deal with than before!
Faced with the barrage of elemental attacks unleashed through the Faceless Mask, divine flames surged across his entire body.
Without losing momentum, he forced his way through Sein’s assault and steadily closed the distance between them.
The moment he came within range, the God of Blazing Fire struck out with a massive palm covered in blazing patterns.
Although Sein was protected by several layers of magical energy shields, the strike still sent him flying thousands of meters backward.
Large scorch marks spread across the metallic surface of his limbs. The silvery-white metal of Fermera’s body was gradually turning black.
After sending Sein flying with a single palm strike, Marduk sneered through the God of Blazing Fire.
“I could have crushed an ant like you with a single finger. Damn it. Why didn’t I discover an insignificant wretch like you sooner?”
Marduk stared at the Magic Cube before Sein’s chest. “If only I had obtained that crystal earlier...”
The jealousy and rage burning in his deep crimson eyes were almost impossible to contain.
Marduk raised his fiery fist once more. A faint yet oppressive aura radiated from it. It was at that moment that Sein suddenly recalled the demigod-level alicorn he had subdued and captured not long ago.
On a battlefield between civilizations, the roles of oppressor and oppressed could reverse without warning.
Besides, the disparity between their life levels was obvious.
Seeing Marduk prepare to strike again, Sethem and the others were already ready to intervene.
It would indeed be difficult for Sein alone to contend with a sliver of Marduk’s divine consciousness controlling a peak Rank Six divine relic, but Sein was not alone!
As long as he was willing to pay the necessary price, securing that pyro-attribute divine relic should not be too difficult.
He was confident that Sethem and the others would do him this favor.
However, to their slight surprise, Sein was the first to act when Marduk charged toward him once more with overwhelming momentum.
Countless magic bombs and strange scrolls were released.
Sein had stockpiled those bombs long ago, after the war within the ruins of the Eiyurant Papillon Civilization came to an end.
Their main raw material was the inert crystals he had collected there, and Sein still had quite a large stockpile of those crystals!
Although the top-grade inert crystals had long since been used up, he still had plenty of ordinary ones.
Since Sein had been among the first group of Magus Civilization powerhouses to enter the ruins of the Eiyurant Papillon Civilization, he had naturally managed to claim a considerable portion of its legacy.
The magic bombs detonated one after another, unleashing a dense barrage of elemental attacks.
As an accomplished alchemist, Sein had never lacked magical artifacts of all kinds.
At the same time, the scrolls he had thrown out began releasing the spells inscribed within them.
Sein had not made these scrolls himself. Since he had only recently begun studying scroll-making, he had acquired them from the Arriba Interstellar Chamber of Commerce for further research at his leisure.
He definitely had not expected them to come in handy at a time like this.
The series of explosions and waves of elemental energy that followed greatly slowed Marduk’s advance.
More importantly, the large cluster of magic bombs released extremely faint inert energy particles as they exploded.
Under the influence of those particles, the scorching flames rising from the God of Blazing Fire’s body visibly weakened.
It was during this process that Sein unexpectedly blasted a fragment of the God of Blazing Fire’s divine consciousness out of his body.
“Idiot! Get back in there!”
Marduk seized control of the God of Blazing Fire’s arm and slammed his fist violently into his own chest.
