Soul Emperor Awakening
Chapter 553 - 551: Heading to Medicine King Valley
After packing up, Long Yuwei led Lin Xuan toward Medicine King Valley. The two of them traveled alone, without any companions.
The Medicine King Valley was a mysterious place that did not grant entry to outsiders lightly. Unless the circumstances were exceptional, no one was permitted inside. Since Long Yuwei was going to atone for her past actions, she certainly couldn’t bring a large entourage. She could only take Lin Xuan.
In fact, if Lin Xuan hadn’t been her son, she wouldn’t have been able to bring him at all. Anyone else would be forbidden from even setting foot inside. Forcing one’s way in was a death sentence.
Medicine King Valley was known as the most mysterious of clans. No one knew their true strength, nor how many members they had. However, one thing was certain: they were famously elusive. Members of Medicine King Valley were almost never seen in public. If word spread of a Top Grade Elixir appearing somewhere, it was sure to be a product of the Valley.
Although Medicine King Valley was reclusive, it wasn’t completely cut off from the outside world. They still needed to purchase resources from time to time, which required them to trade their Elixir Pills for money.
"Medicine King Valley is just ahead," Long Yuwei said.
They had arrived not at a forest or a cave, but atop a high mountain peak. Before them lay a vast expanse of mist, with no visible path forward.
Lin Xuan knew at once that an Illusion Array had been set up here. Every hidden clan used such measures, without exception.
"Medicine King Valley lies within this mist," Long Yuwei explained. "In truth, I can’t enter on my own. We need someone with a Token to guide us in."
Long Yuwei reached out and knocked lightly on a nearby tree trunk, producing a KNOCK KNOCK sound. A moment later, a figure emerged from the mist. He wore a red and white robe, and the scent of herbs wafted from him the moment he appeared. This was a man from Medicine King Valley, and a guard at that.
"Hmph. You traitor. What are you doing back here?!" The guard’s expression soured the instant he saw Long Yuwei, his face twisting in anger.
Being cursed at the very moment the man appeared made Lin Xuan’s brow furrow in displeasure. He kept his mouth shut, however. Before they arrived, Long Yuwei had instructed him not to interrupt and to let her do all the talking.
"Fourth Uncle, I’ve returned to see my father. Is that not permitted?" Long Yuwei didn’t lose her temper. This reaction was only natural; in fact, she had fully expected it.
"Hah! I’m surprised you have the nerve to show your face here. You must be here to beg for something, aren’t you?" Fourth Uncle sneered. "So you only remember Medicine King Valley when you need a favor? I don’t see you thinking of us when you’re doing just fine. And who’s this? He looks a lot like that Lin Chenyun. I’d wager he’s that brat’s son. Still alive, are you? You’re tougher to kill than I thought."
"You—!" Fury flared in Lin Xuan’s heart. He started to speak, but Long Yuwei gently stopped him with a hand, signaling for him to remain silent.
"What, you want to fight me?" Fourth Uncle looked Lin Xuan up and down and sneered. "Your strength seems decent enough, but do you really think you can take me on?"
This Fourth Uncle’s Cultivation wasn’t particularly high, but he was still at the Core Formation Stage. He could undoubtedly finish Lin Xuan in just a few moves. From the man’s words, however, Lin Xuan gleaned a piece of information. ’It seems Medicine King Valley knows what happened to my family. Then again, it was such a major event that they would have found out even if they hadn’t wanted to.’
"Fourth Uncle, I’m asking if we can enter or not. If we can’t, say so now, and I will not force my way in," Long Yuwei said with a faint smile. "But if you dare to speak to us like that again, I suggest you consider your own position. Just because I call you ’Fourth Uncle’ doesn’t mean I actually see you as one."
As she spoke, the powerful aura of a Void Spirit Stage expert surged forward, instantly forcing the Fourth Uncle back. Cold sweat beaded on his brow and trickled down his face. The immense pressure completely overwhelmed him, leaving him powerless to resist.
Long Yuwei had addressed him as "Fourth Uncle" out of respect for his many years of service guarding the entrance. But since he had chosen to speak such words, he couldn’t blame her for being discourteous. If not for his status as a veteran contributor, she would have slapped him dead on the spot. ’Daring to speak to my son like that... he’s courting death!’
A warmth spread through Lin Xuan’s heart. He had thought his mother would just swallow her anger, but it was clear now that beneath her gentle exterior was a fiery temper. Anyone who provoked her was simply asking to die. ’If she weren’t so strong-willed,’ he mused, ’how could she have severed ties with the Valley Master in the first place?’
Drenched in a cold sweat, the Fourth Uncle knew he had overstepped. Finally, he gritted his teeth and said, "You may enter. But he must be blindfolded!"
The higher-ups had never forbidden Long Yuwei’s return, so the guards had no authority to deny her entry. They just disliked her and wanted to vent. Who could have known it would provoke her wrath? If she were truly angered, she might actually strike him. It wouldn’t be a fatal blow, but it would surely leave him bedridden for a month.
"Oh? But I don’t want him blindfolded," Long Yuwei’s tone was utterly uncompromising. "You can go and report that. If a blindfold is truly required, then we won’t be entering." She sounded less like someone begging for a favor and more like someone here to challenge the establishment.
In her mind, failing to obtain the Resurrection Grass was acceptable, but groveling was not. That was something she would never do. ’If we can’t get it here, so be it. Medicine King Valley may be the only known source, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist elsewhere. I refuse to believe there isn’t any on the entire Demon Race Continent!’
The Resurrection Grass in Medicine King Valley wasn’t native to this area anyway. It had been transplanted from the outside and cultivated here.
This implied that Resurrection Grass could be found elsewhere; it was just a matter of how difficult the search would be. And even if it was difficult, it wasn’t impossible, so there was no need to despair.
The Fourth Uncle’s expression was grim. He hadn’t expected Long Yuwei to be so assertive. After staring at them for a moment, he finally said, "Follow me."
He had clearly compromised. There was no actual order requiring this; anyone brought in by Long Yuwei was exempt from being blindfolded. Had it been anyone else, even a guest of the Sect Leader Level, they would have had to be blindfolded. That was the rule.
Lin Xuan then followed him into the mist. Though it looked like he was stepping into a deep abyss, the moment his foot landed, it felt like solid ground. He felt no discomfort at all.
After they had all entered, the entrance was once again enveloped by mist, returning to its tranquil state. Just then, a bird flew in from the distance. It swooped toward the spot where they had just entered, but instead of disappearing inside, it passed right through the mist and continued flying on its way.
Without a guide, entry was impossible. One wrong step, and you would truly plummet into the abyss below.
