Chapter 158: Chapter 158: Be Good, Don’t Argue

At the table, Qing Qing and Fu Yunfeng sat facing each other.

Fu Yunfeng’s two assistants sat beside them, each wishing they could simply disappear on the spot.

Not wanting to sit next to Fu Yunfeng, Qing Qing had deliberately chosen the seat diagonally across from him.

Unfortunately, no matter how she tried to avoid it, her peripheral vision would still catch glimpses of him from time to time.

Qing Qing felt a little uncomfortable.

She asked Fu Chao, who was standing stiffly by the table, trying his best to suppress a look of shock:

"Are there really no other seats?"

Fu Chao opened his mouth to explain.

Nan Yi popped up out of nowhere, holding a teapot.

The little boy spoke with the tone of a seasoned adult:

"Behave, now. No fighting!"

Qing Qing’s tone softened.

"Yiyi, you’ve misunderstood. We’re not fighting."

Nan Yi pouted.

"Do all grown-ups think kids are that easy to fool?"

Qing Qing was at a loss for words.

Fu Yunfeng, who had been sitting in silence, reached out and took the teapot from Nan Yi.

"I’ll do it."

"Okay."

Nan Yi didn’t refuse. With a wave of his hand, he left.

Fu Yunfeng began by pouring tea for Qing Qing first.

Watching the clear, bright tea slowly fill the white porcelain cup, Qing Qing froze for a second before quickly turning her face away.

Even when Fu Yunfeng personally pushed the teacup in front of her, she showed no intention of drinking it.

Fu Yunfeng wasn’t surprised.

He then poured tea for Assistant He and Xiao Chen respectively.

The two were both flattered and overwhelmed.

In an effort to break the stalemate, Fu Chao quickly handed over a menu.

"Hurry and see what you want to eat."

Fu Yunfeng pushed the menu to Qing Qing.

"You choose?"

Without even a glance, Qing Qing reeled off the names of several dishes, with the familiarity of a regular who had been coming for years.

Fu Yunfeng was slightly surprised.

Seeing an opportunity to break the ice, he asked:

"You’ve only been here once and you’ve already memorized it?"

The atmosphere suddenly froze.

The tip of Fu Chao’s pen paused.

The two assistants cautiously lowered their heads.

As for Qing Qing, the one who had created this storm, she slowly turned her head, her expression dark.

"Did you have someone look into my whereabouts?"

Fu Yunfeng froze.

"I didn’t, it’s just..."

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Fu Chao blinking frantically at him.

’He’s probably afraid of his dear mother taking her anger out on him.’

Fu Yunfeng felt a bit helpless and changed his tune:

"...I was worried about you."

"No need."

Qing Qing’s tone was cold enough to freeze water.

Fu Yunfeng adopted an extremely humble posture.

"At least let me know how you’re doing, whether you’re well."

Qing Qing crossed her arms and let out a sarcastic sneer.

"What does that have to do with you?"

"We’re husband and wife."

"We don’t have to be."

"Qing Qing!"

This was one of the rare times Fu Yunfeng lost his temper.

He was always so subservient in front of Qing Qing, willing to lower himself into the dust just to coax a smile from her.

So no matter what Qing Qing said, he would yield and endure it.

The one thing he couldn’t stand was her mentioning divorce!

It was as if his reverse scale had been touched. The warmth in his eyes vanished, replaced by a glimpse of a sharp, piercing edge.

But Qing Qing wasn’t afraid of this act. She slowly raised an eyebrow.

"What do you want?"

Now, their auras clashed like the crossing of sword points, the air faintly ringing with the clang of weapons.

The assistants had already shrunk their presence to a minimum.

Fu Chao was at a loss, not knowing who to try and placate first.

Thankfully, his savior descended from the heavens—

"See? And you said you weren’t fighting."

Nan Yi popped up again.

In Fu Chao’s eyes, Nan Yi’s small figure seemed to radiate a golden light. He was his savior!

Fu Chao quickly stood behind Nan Yi, not caring whether his own over-six-foot frame could actually be hidden by the short little boy, and tattle-taled:

"That’s right! They were totally fighting! Yiyi, look at these grown-ups, they don’t listen at all!"

Daggers shot from Qing Qing’s eyes.

Fu Yunfeng seemed to be smiling, but his eyes were not friendly either.

Sensing the threat, Fu Chao shrank back.

Nan Yi took a step forward and stood on his tiptoes to put down the pitcher he was holding.

"Don’t bully Uncle Fu Chao!"

Fu Chao hadn’t expected to be protected by Nan Yi and was instantly moved beyond words.

"Yiyi..."

"...Uncle Fu Chao is a bit silly, so we have to protect him!"

Nan Yi said with a straight face.

The touched feeling in Fu Chao’s heart vanished without a trace in a second.

"Oh, thanks a lot."

Fu Chao said listlessly.

However, Nan Yi’s words made Qing Qing laugh.

Fu Yunfeng glanced at Qing Qing and smiled as well.

As the two of them laughed, the cold, stagnant atmosphere began to flow again.

Nan Yi nodded in satisfaction.

"See? Isn’t this much better!"

With that, he pointed to the pitcher before them.

"This is sour plum soup. My mom brewed it herself, and it’s delicious! It’s a gift for you all! And thank you for helping me earlier."

The last sentence was directed at Fu Yunfeng.

Fu Yunfeng nodded to show it was nothing.

But Qing Qing’s attention was caught.

"Helped?"

Fu Yunfeng was concise:

"It was just a small thing."

Nan Yi thought Fu Yunfeng was being too modest and explained in a clear, crisp voice:

"Someone was arguing outside just now, and this uncle told that person that if he caused any more trouble, he’d break both his legs!"

He spoke so fast that even Fu Yunfeng didn’t have time to react.

Fu Yunfeng was stunned on the spot.

"You... you... Didn’t I ask you to keep it a secret?"

Qing Qing clicked her tongue.

"A real role model."

Fu Chao’s focus was elsewhere.

"You can’t just call him ’uncle,’ Yiyi. This is my biological father, you should call him Grandpa!"

Nan Yi looked back and forth between Fu Chao, Fu Yunfeng, and Qing Qing.

’Grandpa’ or ’Grandma’—he couldn’t bring himself to say either.

"Mmm."

A troubled expression appeared on Nan Yi’s little face.

Fortunately, he suddenly spotted his mother appear at the kitchen entrance, her gaze sweeping around as if looking for something.

"My mom’s looking for me! I’m leaving!"

’If you can’t understand the problem, just choose to avoid it!’

Nan Yi decisively turned and ran towards the kitchen.

Nan Zhi saw him and quickly steadied Nan Yi’s wobbly little body.

"What are you running for?"

As she spoke, she wiped the sweat from Nan Yi’s forehead.

"...Nothing."

Nan Yi couldn’t help but glance behind him.

Nan Zhi found it strange and followed his gaze.

She first saw Qing Qing, and then the unfamiliar Fu Yunfeng.

"That is...?"

Nan Yi opened his mouth to explain.

But then he remembered that Uncle Fu Chao had told him to keep a secret before, so he only mouthed the word to his mother.

’Dad.’

Nan Zhi’s eyes widened slightly in surprise.

Too bad for the curious audience, who were practically tearing their hair out, as they couldn’t see or hear a thing.

Qing Qing also saw Nan Zhi.

Her interactions with her from the past few days were still vivid in Qing Qing’s mind.

The annoyance and dissatisfaction in her heart, caused by Fu Yunfeng, suddenly melted away like spring wind dissolving the rain.

A smile appeared in Qing Qing’s eyes, even softer than the one Nan Yi had coaxed out of her earlier.

She nodded at Nan Zhi with an unprecedented friendliness.

When Fu Yunfeng saw this, he understood everything—

’So that’s the person Fu Chao mentioned, the one my wife believes is our daughter.’

’The mother of that little boy, Nan Yi, from before?’

The former made him wary, while the latter made him feel more friendly—a rather contradictory feeling.

However, all these contradictions dissolved the moment he saw Nan Zhi.

He just subconsciously thought:

’She’s a good kid. She wouldn’t be capable of deceiving anyone.’
