Sorry, Our Captain Is a True All-Rounder
Chapter 195: Cannot Die
Mo Xuan hugged her back, holding her tightly, as if trying to merge Feng He’s entire being into his own flesh and blood.
“I’m sorry for making you worry.” Mo Xuan looked at her red, swollen eyes, feeling so guilty he could die.
When he was on the verge of being beaten to death, the person on Mo Xuan’s mind was Feng He. He thought about how she would cry, how sad she would be.
The thought of Feng He gave Mo Xuan, who was about to give up, the strength to force his body to hold on.
He couldn’t die. He didn’t dare to.
If he died, what would happen to Feng He? What about Sister Lin, Shi Feng, and Gu Kaiwen?
They weren’t related by blood, but they were closer than siblings.
So as Mo Xuan lay on the cold floor, his mind groggy, he had only one thought.
‘I have to live. I must survive.’
He couldn’t die yet.
Fortunately, his will to live allowed him to overcome death, and it also triggered a breakthrough in his spiritual power.
‘How lucky I am to have survived to see them again.’
“So you *do* know you made us worry. Do you have any idea how worried sick we were when you wouldn’t wake up?” Feng He looked up at him, her eyes welling with tears again.
The sight broke Mo Xuan’s heart. He quickly cupped Feng He’s cheeks, kissed her forehead, and comforted her, “See? I’m fine now. I knew you would save me.”
Feng He huffed loudly, then began to cry even more heartbrokenly.
The three people who walked in from outside saw this scene and tacitly averted their gazes.
They had no desire to watch this public display of affection.
“Just keep pushing your luck,” Feng He huffed again, sounding extremely displeased.
Then, seeing the three of them, she pushed Mo Xuan away and stood up. Wiping her tears with a tissue, she looked at them and asked, “What are you guys doing here?”
“We came to see if this guy had woken up yet.”
Shi Feng pointed at Mo Xuan on the bed and said, “We didn’t expect you to be awake, or that we’d be subjected to a PDA session.”
“What, you jealous I have a fiancée?” Mo Xuan looked at him and asked smugly.
“Not at all.” Shi Feng waved his hand. ‘Being single is great.’
Lin Jingjing walked up to Mo Xuan with a smile, looked him up and down, and then smacked him on the head. “If you’re this reckless again, it won’t be just a smack.”
Mo Xuan quickly covered his smarting head and said defensively, “Their demands were just too outrageous.”
“If I hadn’t agreed, the soldiers I brought with me wouldn’t have been able to come back.”
It turned out that Mo Xuan had initially refused Alderick’s demands. He found Alderick’s actions infuriating.
Besides, he was a vice-captain of the Monster Investigation Bureau. He was still an officer, so it was completely unreasonable for Alderick not to release his people.
But that guy was a real piece of work. He only allowed Mo Xuan to return, detaining all dozen or so soldiers he had brought with him.
Alderick had even threatened him: he could go back, but all these soldiers would have to stay behind in the Fifth Corps.
Of course, Mo Xuan had to be responsible for his soldiers, so he was forced to accept the demand.
The gap in their strength was huge. At first, Mo Xuan could exchange a few rounds with him, but after his spiritual power was gradually depleted, he could only take a beating.
He never expected that a supposed colleague would actually try to beat him to death.
If it hadn’t been for Sister Lin’s video call, Mo Xuan was sure he would have really died there.
“That’s pretty disgusting,” Lin Jingjing commented with a frown. “But don’t worry, I’ve already gotten revenge for you.”
“Really?” Mo Xuan was a bit shocked. ‘Sister Lin is that fast?’
“Sister Lin is extremely fast,” Shi Feng said with a grin, walking over to pat his shoulder. “The day after you got beaten up, Sister Lin beat that guy so bad he ended up in a treatment pod. Now, his position as Army Commander has already been filled by someone else.”
Hearing this, Mo Xuan gave Lin Jingjing a thumbs-up.
“Impressive.”
“HAHAHAHA, of course! I’m your Sister Lin, after all,” Lin Jingjing said, puffing out her chest and laughing.
After showing her concern, Lin Jingjing sat down in a nearby chair, and her expression suddenly turned stern.
Seeing her stern face, Mo Xuan wiped the smile off his own, bracing himself for a scolding.
Without realizing it, they had all come to see Lin Jingjing as a big sister.
“Mo Xuan, if you ever do something this dangerous again, I will definitely beat you up,” Lin Jingjing said, her face serious.
Mo Xuan was quick to admit his mistake. At her words, he hurried to apologize, “I know I was wrong. It won’t happen again.”
“Don’t just apologize and then do it again.”
“I won’t,” Mo Xuan quickly promised.
Seeing his apologetic attitude, the other three stood by, chuckling.
Lin Jingjing’s gaze swept over them, and their smiles immediately vanished.
“That goes for you three, too. If I catch you following his example, I’ll beat you to death.”
Feng He chuckled and decided to bring up the past. “But Sister Lin, you’re the same way. Last time, in that underground desert lab on B6 Star, you almost lost your life there.”
“Is that the same?” Lin Jingjing retorted. “I was saving you all. He was just throwing his life away.”
“It’s not the same.”
“It is!” the four of them said in unison.
Lin Jingjing shot them a look, didn’t argue further, gave a few more instructions, and then got up to leave.
She still had a lot of things to handle. She never expected this line of work would be so busy.
Looking across the entire Empire, Lin Jingjing realized there were very few people who could actually help her.
Police departments on various stars would only take missing person cases seriously if she intervened personally. The number of ordinary people who were abducted and successfully recovered was small.
But now, because of Lin Jingjing’s intervention, those police officers could no longer just sit on their hands and do nothing.
Because Lin Jingjing had used her official account to post a notice on the Star Network.
It stated that if local police officers were inactive and unwilling to help find missing people, citizens could call and report them directly to her.
If a reported officer was investigated and the complaint was confirmed, Lin Jingjing would have them dismissed from their post immediately.
Lin Jingjing had this authority. It was an authority granted to her by Yun Yiyou.
Yun Yiyou had given her this power specifically so that she could do her job without her hands being tied.
Because Yun Yiyou couldn’t move against the nobles directly, Lin Jingjing had to be the sharp blade.
The investigation into Huang Bo Lin’s secret base was also being handled by Lin Jingjing and her team.
But Yun Yiyou had provided too few people. Lin Jingjing felt there just weren’t enough capable people she could rely on.
She had to do everything herself.
‘It’s a little exhausting.’
Arriving at her office, Lin Jingjing sat down, propped her head on her hand, and asked, “Shaoyu, do you have anyone you can recommend?”
“What’s wrong?” Lu Shaoyu asked, holding a file, looking puzzled.
“There’s too much work. We can’t keep up. We need more people,” Lin Jingjing replied with a smile.
Lu Shaoyu thought for a moment. There was one person he could recommend, but he wasn’t sure if that person would be willing to come.
“There is someone, but I don’t know if they’d be willing,” Lu Shaoyu answered.
