Skill Trees Are Everywhere
Chapter 97: Look on the Bright Side, You’ve Lost More Than Just a Coffin
Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Look on the Bright Side, You’ve Lost More Than Just a Coffin
The three members of the Demon Race had died so mysteriously that Su Han and the Feng Family siblings were all completely dumbfounded.
Feng Muxi hesitated for a moment, then went to search the clothes and Storage Rings scattered on the ground where the golden cage had dissipated.
And indeed... there was no sign of the Reincarnation Coffin.
’So the Demon Race really didn’t steal it. Then where did the Reincarnation Coffin go?’
Although he had suspected as much, Feng Muxi still couldn’t make heads or tails of the situation.
They hadn’t even had a chance to venture deeper into the ruins before the Guardian flew into a rage over the theft of the Reincarnation Coffin.
If the Demon Race hadn’t stolen the Reincarnation Coffin, who could have swooped in and snatched the prize from under both their noses?
"Nothing?"
Seeing that Feng Muxi’s search had yielded nothing, Su Han thought for a moment and asked, "So, what does the Reincarnation Coffin look like?"
The Feng Family siblings and the Demon Race hadn’t managed to steal it. As for that bunch from the Celestial Demon Sect and the Supreme Dao, they were kicked out of the ruins not long after entering, giving them no window of opportunity.
Considering the ’inside job’ nature of how things like the Godslaying Stele, the Great Treasure Sword, and the Wordless Celestial Scripture had been acquired, a faint suspicion began to form in Su Han’s mind.
’The coffin... Don’t tell me my family’s old ancestor picked it up? Or maybe my father and mother saw it, took a liking to it, and just casually walked off with it?’
’That possibility... couldn’t be entirely ruled out.’
However, to his surprise, the Feng Family siblings couldn’t answer his question.
They... actually had no idea what the Reincarnation Coffin looked like.
This left Su Han speechless. ’You don’t even know what the Reincarnation Coffin looks like, and you have the gall to come searching for it?’
’Still... even if it’s a seven or eight-cycle Reincarnation Coffin, it must still look like a coffin.’
’Since it’s shaped like a coffin, it should be pretty easy to spot if it’s really at my home.’
Seeing that the matter was settled and that the Feng siblings seemed preoccupied, Su Han didn’t stay any longer. He said his goodbyes and left.
After returning home, Su Han made a point of asking Prince Jing and the Princess Consort about it, but they both said they hadn’t seen any coffin in the ruins.
There wasn’t even a coffin among the relics left behind by the Old Ancestor.
’Oh, that’s not quite right.’
’There *was* a coffin left by the Old Ancestor, but he’s supposed to be lying in it right now.’
His inquiries led nowhere. ’Maybe I should find a chance to check the Imperial Mausoleum,’ he thought. ’Don’t tell me the Old Ancestor really lugged that Reincarnation Coffin back to use for himself.’
The rest of the day passed without incident, and the night flew by in a flash.
The next day after lunch, Su Han sat in the courtyard, waiting for his Distanceless Skill to cool down.
The instant the final seconds ticked away and the cooldown hit zero, Su Han activated his Distanceless Skill, locked onto the Array Spirit’s location, and teleported directly to it.
In the lower ruins, the Array Spirit stared at the empty mausoleum, its eyes filled with sorrow.
As it was wallowing in its grief, it suddenly sensed a commotion nearby.
It instinctively turned to look.
"Holy shit!"
The sight made the Array Spirit so scared it plopped right down on the ground.
"You... S-Sir... Why are you here again?"
Seeing the Array Spirit’s dramatic reaction, Su Han blinked. "You don’t seem very happy to see me."
"Not at all! Of course not! How could that be?"
The Array Spirit forced a smile, but its eyes were brimming with unshed, sorrowful tears. "Didn’t you just leave yesterday?"
Su Han nodded. "I did. But didn’t I also say... we have a long future ahead of us?"
The Array Spirit: "..."
’A long future ahead’... so you come back the very next day? You must have some kind of misunderstanding about that phrase!
"What brings you here this time, sir?"
Seeing the caution in the Array Spirit’s eyes, Su Han smirked. "Relax, I’m not here to ask for anything."
Hearing this, the Array Spirit didn’t look relieved in the slightest. "And I’m not going to burn your trees," Su Han added.
A faint worry still lingered in its eyes.
"Or dismantle your ruins."
The Array Spirit let out a long, heavy sigh of relief. "Then... what can I do for you, sir?"
"Hmm..."
Su Han thought for a moment and decided to get straight to the point. "Yesterday in Lingzhou City... oh, that’s where the Array Stone for this ruin’s Hidden Array is located... a mountain range eight hundred li wide suddenly materialized out of thin air. Does that have anything to do with these ruins?"
The Array Spirit nodded, an awkward expression on its face. "I lost control yesterday, which caused the Second Famous Mountain to break away from the ruins."
’Second Famous Mountain?’
Su Han nodded, mentally noting the name, even though he felt such a small, eight-hundred-li mountain range was completely unworthy of it.
Seeing Su Han fall silent in thought, the Array Spirit’s incorporeal heart leaped into its throat. "The mountain didn’t cause any trouble, did it?"
Su Han shook his head. "No trouble to speak of, but Lingzhou City belongs to my family, which makes your Second Famous Mountain an illegal resident."
"However, I’ve already helped it process the necessary legal paperwork. From now on, the Second Famous Mountain will be putting down roots in Lingzhou City."
Seeing the Array Spirit’s completely baffled expression, Su Han frowned. "What? Is there a problem?"
The Array Spirit: "...Um, what did you just say? ’Illegal residency’? ’Processed the legal paperwork’? What does that mean?"
So, Su Han explained the basic laws and guidelines for Spirit Monsters wishing to establish residency in Lingzhou City to the Array Spirit.
The Array Spirit: "..."
’Has the outside world become this terrifying?’
’They even have basic laws for this now? Didn’t mountains in the old days just grow wherever they pleased?’
’Didn’t Spirit Monsters used to gain sentience wherever they felt like it?’
’Why... is that suddenly not allowed anymore?’
Grumbling inwardly, the Array Spirit didn’t dare to voice its confusion.
"If such a law exists, then the Second Famous Mountain will naturally comply."
Su Han nodded. "Also, while I’ve handled its legal residency paperwork, it won’t be living there for free."
"Since it’s living in Lingzhou, it will naturally have to pay rent."
Su Han took out the Jade Token of Prince Jing’s Residence and showed it to the Array Spirit. "From now on, the mining rights for the Second Famous Mountain belong to our Prince Jing’s Residence. Let anyone carrying one of these Jade Tokens pass. If anyone without a token dares to take anything from the mountain, break all four of their limbs and throw them out."
After speaking, Su Han glanced at the Array Spirit. "Is that a problem?"
The Array Spirit: "..."
’Judging by your attitude, which suggests you have zero intention of discussing this with me, am I even allowed to say there’s a problem?’
"No problem! I will communicate this clearly to the Second Famous Mountain."
"Good..."
Su Han nodded. "In that case, that should be... oh, wait. I heard you lost a coffin yesterday?"
The Array Spirit’s face instantly fell. "Yes... even you’ve heard about it."
Su Han gave it a sympathetic look and offered some words of "comfort." "Try to look on the bright side. It’s not like the coffin is the only thing you’ve lost."
The Array Spirit: "..."
’So, are you trying to comfort me? Or are you just twisting the knife?’
"I..."
"What did that coffin of yours look like? Describe it for me. I can help you look for it when I have time."
He had already decided to find a chance to visit the Imperial Mausoleum and see if the Old Ancestor had really hauled the thing back to use for himself.
’But to do that, I’d naturally need to know what the Reincarnation Coffin looks like.’
However... the Array Spirit just shook its head blankly.
"The Reincarnation Coffin... I don’t know what it looks like either."
Su Han: "..."
Staring at the Array Spirit, Su Han’s eyes filled with suspicion.
’Are you kidding me? It’s one thing for the Feng Family siblings not to know; you could say it’s because they’ve never seen it.’
’But the damn Reincarnation Coffin has been sitting in your home for who knows how many millennia, and you’re telling me you don’t know what it looks like?’
