Skill Trees Are Everywhere

Chapter 94: You Know in Your Own Hearts How Your Master Died...

  • Next Chapter

Looking at the Princess Consort’s completely unconflicted expression, Su Han really wanted to ask how she could say that so matter-of-factly.

But after a moment’s thought, he wisely gave up on the idea.

He lowered his head, looked at the ring in his hand, and once again cast an identification… the Eye of Truth, on it.

A white light that only Su Han could see flashed over the ring. After the flash, the Eye of Truth fed a piece of information back to Su Han—

Storage Ring: A birthday gift from Princess Jing to her Crown Prince, Su Han, on his first birthday.

Having been worn daily by the Crown Prince Su Han, it has been imbued with a portion of his fortune. A normal person carrying it would receive a boost to their luck.

Function: Storage.

Other: The Storage Ring is a legacy item from the Princess Consort’s mysterious sect, entrusted with the well-wishes of generations of unreliable elders from said unreliable sect.

It is hoped that by having the younger generation wear the ring, they will be protected and grow up in good health.

Note: The above is feudal superstition. Reject superstition—it starts with you and me!

Su Han: “…”

‘Is it just my imagination?’

‘Why do I feel like even my Identification Magic, the Eye of Truth… has gotten a bit cheeky?’

‘Reject superstition—it starts with you and me?’

‘Are you sure… your very existence isn’t a form of superstition?’

‘Are you sure talking about feudal superstition in a Mystical World doesn’t make the whole scene feel bizarre?’

‘Are you sure… you’re really the Eye of Truth? And not possessed by some old ancestor?’

‘Why do I suddenly feel like even the Eye of Truth is becoming unreliable?’

Still, at least the ring didn’t carry any curses or bad luck.

Wearing the ring wouldn’t have any negative effects.

“Little Han?”

Just as Su Han was identifying the ring for the second time, the Princess Consort spoke up hesitantly.

“Hm?”

“Maybe… you should take the ring off.”

Although when she first gave him the ring, she’d thought of it as a Protective Talisman passed down through generations of her sect.

But thinking about it carefully now, she wasn’t sure about its protective qualities. It seemed that none of the past patriarchs who had worn this ring had met a good end.

She began to worry, ‘If my son wears this ring, will he also fail to live past nine hundred years old?’

In the past, she would have been delighted if her son could live to be nine hundred.

But now… her son was such a genius! It had been less than three months since he began cultivating, and he had already opened his Divine Sea.

Her son becoming a Celestial Being was practically a certainty. A lifespan of nine hundred years… was just too short.

Seeing the worry in the Princess Consort’s eyes, Su Han shook his head with an amused smile. “There’s no need. I quite like this ring.”

“But…”

Su Han smiled. “Mother… are you worried I won’t be able to become a Celestial Being in nine hundred years?”

The Princess Consort shook her head. “I’m not worried.”

Su Han nodded with a smile. “Exactly. So I’ll keep wearing the ring.”

“Alright.”

Afterward, Su Han gave them a rough account of his experiences in the ruins, leaving out the part about unlocking two Skill Trees and obtaining two awesome skills.

After listening to Su Han’s story, Prince Jing was silent for a moment before looking up to meet Su Han’s gaze directly.

“You’re saying… you used a fire to get rid of half the people who entered the ruins?”

Seeing the grave expression on his father’s face, Su Han faltered and nodded. “Yes. Did I… do something wrong?”

Prince Jing neither nodded nor shook his head. “Well, does anyone know you did it?”

‘The Array Spirit knows!’

Su Han thought to himself. ‘But… that Array Spirit isn’t a person.’

‘So…’

He shook his head. “No.”

“SLAM!”

Prince Jing slammed his palm on the table. “Well done! It’s just a shame you couldn’t bury all of them in one go!”

Su Han: “…”

‘You’re… even more ruthless than I am!’

“What a shame~”

Outside Lingzhou City, in a mountain range stretching eight hundred li, the Feng siblings appeared on a summit, looking somewhat disheveled. Holding a bronze mirror, Miss Feng wore an expression of regret.

Feng Muxi’s expression was also grim.

“We were just one step too late. I don’t know who beat us to it, but I hope it hasn’t fallen into the hands of the Demon Race.”

Miss Feng shook her head. “I never expected there to be such a Guardian in the ruins. Logically, neither we nor the Night Demon and Illusion Demon should have been able to steal the item without the Guardian knowing.”

“But judging by the Guardian’s final reaction, it seems the item was truly lost without him having any awareness of it.”

“Let’s give chase. No matter what, we can’t let the Demon Race get away with it. Back then…”

Miss Feng nodded and took out a black pearl.

After she infused it with Spiritual Power, the pearl floated into the air, trembled a few times, and then flew off in a certain direction.

The two siblings followed the pearl, tracking the aura of the Demon Race.

After flying for an unknown amount of time, the black pearl in the air buzzed and trembled. The expressions of the Feng siblings changed in unison as they stopped and looked around warily.

“SWOOSH~”

From the void, a flash of sword light materialized and stabbed toward Feng Muxi.

Feng Muxi took a step back. He lifted his left hand, and an Ancient Book appeared. The Ancient Book shuddered slightly, and the Sword Qi dissipated without a trace.

The pages flipped open on their own. Runes materialized from within the Ancient Book, flying out and merging into the surrounding void.

As the runes manifested, the air grew heavy and oppressive.

“Seal!”

Feng Muxi uttered a single word. As soon as the sound left his lips, the runes in the void shot out golden light, which formed a cage that imprisoned this patch of space.

“Suppress!”

He spat out a second word. The golden cage constricted, and the very air seemed to warp under the immense pressure.

“THUD~”

Three figures materialized from the void and fell to the ground in unison.

“The Taoist Scripture!”

Among the three, a Celestial Being of the Demon Race, who had been ready to launch a frontal assault after being forced out, had his expression change drastically. He stared at the Ancient Book in Feng Muxi’s hand, his face filled with disbelief.

“An Illusion Demon, a Demon Devourer, and a Night Demon. Has the Demon Race fallen so far that it can’t even produce a single Celestial Demon?”

Feng Muxi gave a noncommittal smile and presented the Ancient Book in his hand. “Hand over the Reincarnation Coffin, and I can let you leave.”

Unexpectedly, upon hearing Feng Muxi’s words, the Illusion Demon Celestial Being’s reaction was even more intense than his own.

“Junior of the Dao Race, you people are pushing us demons too far! You’re the ones who used a treacherous scheme to steal our master’s Seven Generations Copper Coffin, and now you have the gall to turn around and blame us.

“Even if you have the Taoist Scripture today, if you don’t hand over the Seven Generations Copper Coffin, we will make you pay a bloody price.”

Feng Muxi was slightly taken aback. “You didn’t steal the Reincarnation Coffin?”

“Hmph! You shameless junior of the Dao Race.

“The Seven Generations Copper Coffin was an item left behind by our master. Even if we of the Demon Race were to retrieve it, how could that be called stealing?

“It is your Dao Race that is the problem! In the Ancient Times, you sided with the Immortal Race, and now you’re obstructing our efforts to retrieve our master’s possession. When our master returns one day, are you not afraid of being called to account?”

Feng Muxi frowned. ‘Could it be… they really didn’t steal it?’

But… one must not lose in posture even if one loses the fight. Everyone here had status and standing. Even if a fight was imminent, one had to stand on the moral high ground.

“First, a correction. It’s called the Reincarnation Coffin, not the Seven Generations Copper Coffin.

“And even if you Demon Race have a unique name for it, it’s not the Seven Generations Copper Coffin anymore. You should start calling it the Eight Generations Copper Coffin.”

Out of humanitarian concern, Feng Muxi gave the Illusion Demon a friendly reminder.

“Besides… you and I both know the origin of the Reincarnation Coffin perfectly well. So stop spouting nonsense about it being your master’s possession.

“Don’t you of the Demon Race have any idea how your master died in the first place?”

The three Demons: “…”

P.S. The three Demons say: Don’t slap people in the face, don’t point out their flaws when you curse them, and vote when you read a book. Isn’t this just basic common sense?
