Six Months Contract With The Mafia God
Chapter 87: What’s the catch?
"You don’t control us," Isabella said, her voice shaking with fury. "We’re not your subjects anymore."
"You’re right. You’re not." Dimitri turned to face her fully. "You’re independent operators. Which means when you fuck up, when you make enemies, when things go wrong, you’re on your own. No father to protect you, Enzo. No Lorenzo to bail you out, Isabella. Just you two, against everyone you’ve pissed off trying to build this thing." He paused. "So I suggest you be very careful about who you make enemies of."
Silence crashed through the warehouse.
Enzo’s mind was racing. Dimitri had known about the heist. Had let them succeed. Had been watching the entire time.
It was humiliating. Emasculating. Proof that even when they thought they were operating independently, they were still dancing to Dimitri’s tune.
"Why?" Enzo asked, his voice raw. "Why let us take the shipment if you were just going to come here and...."
"Remind you of reality?" Dimitri finished. "Because I wanted you to feel the victory before I took it away. I wanted you to understand that in this city, nothing happens without my knowledge. That even your successes exist because I allow them to." He looked between them. "But I’m also here to offer you something."
"We don’t want anything from you," Isabella spat.
"You will." Dimitri pulled out his phone, showed them a map. "Here. And here. And here. Three territories. All neutral. All profitable. All yours....if you want them."
Enzo stared at the map. "What’s the catch?"
"No catch. You take these territories, you build your organization there, you stay the fuck away from mine. We coexist. Peacefully. You get your independence. I get my peace of mind. Everyone wins."
"And if we refuse?" Enzo asked.
"Then you can try to build your empire in the spaces between my territory, Father’s, and Lorenzo’s. Good luck finding room." Dimitri’s voice was conversational. Almost friendly. "Or you can take what I’m offering. Build something real. Prove you’re capable without constantly fighting against me. Your choice."
Isabella looked at Enzo. He could see the war in her eyes, pride versus pragmatism.
"We need to discuss this," Enzo said finally. "Privately."
"Of course." Dimitri started walking toward the exit. "You have until dawn to decide. Accept my offer, and we have peace. Refuse, and..." He turned back, and the Devil was fully present in his eyes. "Well. Then we find out how good you really are without the safety net of your family names."
He walked out.
Just like that.
Alone. Unarmed. Completely confident that none of them would shoot him in the back.
The second the door closed behind him, Isabella exploded.
"That arrogant, condescending, manipulative..." She paced, furious. "He let us win just so he could take it away. Just so he could prove he’s still in control."
"He is in control," Enzo said quietly. "That’s the problem. In this city, he’s always in control."
"So what? We just accept his offer? Take his scraps like grateful children?"
"His ’scraps’ are three profitable territories we can build on. Neutral ground where we won’t be fighting him, my father, or your father." Enzo pulled up the map Dimitri had shown them. "Look at this. These aren’t scraps, Isabella. These are opportunities. Real ones."
"They’re his terms. His boundaries. We’d still be operating under his shadow."
"No. We’d be operating in parallel to him. There’s a difference." Enzo met her eyes. "What did you think was going to happen? That we’d build an empire that rivaled his without any pushback? That he’d just let us threaten everything he’s built?"
"I thought...." Isabella’s voice broke. "I thought we’d be free. Really free. Not just trading one set of rules for another."
"Freedom has limits. Especially in our world." Enzo crossed to her, took her shoulders. "But this...this is still more than we had before. We’re not answering to Antonio. Not answering to Lorenzo. We’re building something that’s ours. Just within boundaries that keep us alive."
Isabella stared at him for a long moment.
Then she laughed....bitter and exhausted.
"He won. Again. Even when we thought we were succeeding, he was already three steps ahead."
"Yes," Enzo agreed. "Because he’s Dimitri fucking Valentino. And we..." He gestured at the warehouse, at the stolen shipment, at their team. "We’re still learning."
"So we take his offer."
"We take his offer. We build our empire in the territories he’s not interested in. And we prove to him, to our fathers, to ourselves that we’re more than just disappointing children." Enzo’s voice was firm. "This isn’t surrender, Isabella. It’s strategy. We survive. We build. And someday when we’re strong enough ,maybe we revisit the boundaries."
"And if he heard that? If he’s still listening?"
"Then he already knows." Enzo pulled out his phone. "But for now, we play by his rules. Because the alternative is war we can’t win."
He texted Dimitri: We accept. Send the contracts.
The response came within seconds: Smart choice. Contracts will arrive by morning. And Enzo? Welcome to the game. Try not to disappoint me.
Enzo showed Isabella the message.
She read it, then laughed again....this time with genuine humor.
"He’s such an asshole."
"He’s the Devil. What did you expect?"
"I don’t know." Isabella looked at the crates of Hartford merchandise. "But I know this...we still have this shipment. We still executed perfectly. And even if Dimitri was watching, we proved we can do it."
"Exactly." Enzo gestured to Viktor. "Get the inventory confirmed. Then contact our distributors. We move this merchandise by Friday. Full profit to us."
"On it, boss."
Boss.
Enzo felt something settle in his chest.
They’d taken a shipment. Successfully.
They’d been offered territories. Real ones.
They’d stood in a warehouse while Dimitri Valentino himself delivered terms, and they’d survived.
It wasn’t the victory he’d imagined.
But it was a victory nonetheless.

POV: DIMITRI
Dimitri sat in the Aston Martin three blocks away, Marco in the driver’s seat, watching the warehouse through surveillance feeds.
"They accepted," Marco said, reading the text.
"Of course they did. They’re smart enough to know a good deal when they see one."
"Think they’ll stay within the boundaries?"
