Six Months Contract With The Mafia God
Chapter 423: Is There A Problem With Isabella?
He moved to a secure safe hidden behind a painting and opened it. Inside were various items....cash, identification documents, and the pill sample that Luca had tested months ago. The one that had come back as "anxiety medication."
Dante picked up the pill and held it up to the light.
What was actually in this?
If it was just anxiety medication, why would her body be going through this kind of withdrawal? Why would she be tremoring and anxious and physically deteriorating?
Unless it wasn’t what the test said it was.
Unless the test had been superficial.
Unless there was something else in the pill....something deeper, something that required a more comprehensive analysis to detect.
Dante made a decision.
He pulled out his phone and called Luca.
Luca answered on the second ring.
"Boss," he said respectfully. "What do you need?"
"The pill I gave you to test before," Dante said without preamble. "The anxiety medication. I need you to run another test on it."
There was a pause on the other end of the line.
"We already tested that," Luca said carefully. "The results came back clean. It’s anxiety medication."
"I know," Dante said. "But I need a more comprehensive test this time. A deeper analysis. I need to know every compound, every additive, every substance in that pill. Everything."
"Boss," Luca said slowly, "why do we need...."
"Just do it," Dante interrupted, but his voice wasn’t harsh. It was heavy. "I need a full chemical breakdown. Test for anything that might cause dependency. Test for anything that might be masking its actual composition. I need to know what’s actually in this pill."
"How comprehensive?" Luca asked, shifting into professional mode.
"Complete," Dante said. "Every possible compound. Every possible additive. Everything."
"I’ll need access to more sophisticated equipment," Luca said. "This will take longer than the surface-level test. Give me 24 hours."
"You have 24 hours," Dante confirmed.
"Boss," Luca said carefully, "are you suspecting something? Is there a problem with Isabella?"
Dante was silent for a long moment.
"I hope my suspicions are not right," he said finally. "But I need to know."
"I understand," Luca said. "I’ll get on it immediately. Full chemical breakdown. You’ll have results within 24 hours."
"Thank you," Dante said.
The call ended.

Dante returned to find Isabella on the master balcony, looking out at the Mediterranean.
She was gripping the railing tightly, her knuckles white from the pressure, her entire body trembling slightly in the ocean breeze.
She didn’t turn when he approached, didn’t acknowledge his presence at first. She was lost in her own internal battle.
Dante stood beside her and looked out at the sea.
"The view is beautiful," he said softly.
"It is," Isabella replied, and her voice was strained. "Thank you for bringing me here."
"Of course," Dante said. "You deserve to be somewhere safe. Somewhere beautiful. Somewhere you can finally be free."
The word "free" hung in the air between them, and Isabella felt it like an accusation.
She wasn’t free. She was more trapped than she’d ever been.
Dante reached out and gently took her hand, the one still gripping the railing.
He felt the tremor immediately.
He didn’t comment on it. He just held her hand and looked out at the sea, and Dante confirmed what he had been suspecting, which is that something is very, very wrong.

Later that evening, after Isabella had retreated to the bedroom claiming exhaustion, Dante sat alone in the study.
He was reviewing everything he knew about her:
The medication she mentioned needing. The anxiety diagnosis. The way her body was deteriorating. The tremors. The anxiety that was escalating rather than diminishing. The difficulty eating. The exhaustion mixed with inability to sleep.
All of it pointed to one conclusion: someone had gotten Isabella dependent on something.

POV: LUCA
Luca stood over the sophisticated equipment, watching as the chemical analyzer completed its final scan.
Twenty-four hours of continuous testing. Layer by layer. Compound by compound.
The results were displaying on the screen in front of him, and what he was seeing didn’t make sense at first.
He ran the analysis again.
Same results.
Luca sat down slowly, staring at the screen, understanding what he was looking at.
The pill....Isabella’s anxiety medication, had a dual-layer composition.
On the surface, there was genuine anxiety medication. Real pharmaceutical compounds. The kind that would show up in a standard test. The kind that would come back as "anxiety medication" to anyone doing a cursory analysis.
It was a masking agent.
But underneath that surface layer, woven into the very core of the pill, was something completely different.
A sophisticated addictive compound. Something designed with precision. Something created in a professional laboratory by people who knew exactly what they were doing.
Someone had intercepted Isabella’s real anxiety medication.
Someone had replaced it with a pill that LOOKED like anxiety medication on the surface but was actually something far more sinister underneath.
Luca pulled up his databases and began to search for the origin of the compound.
Nothing.
He searched encrypted channels, contacted sources, traced chemical suppliers.
Nothing.
The origin was completely hidden. Completely protected. As if whoever had created this compound had gone to extreme lengths to ensure it couldn’t be traced back to them.
Luca understood: only organizations with serious resources could do something this sophisticated. Only organizations operating in complete secrecy. Only organizations with access to professional laboratories and pharmaceutical knowledge.
He narrowed it down in his mind: there were only TWO organizations he knew of that could create something this complex and keep it this hidden.
He picked up his phone and called Dante.

Dante answered on the first ring.
"Boss," Luca said, "I have the results."
"And?" Dante’s voice was controlled but anticipatory.
"The pill is not what we thought," Luca said carefully. "There’s something I need to explain."
He walked Dante through the dual-layer composition. The surface-level anxiety medication. The masking agent designed to fool standard testing. The hidden addictive compound underneath.
Dante listened in absolute silence as Luca explained.
"She’s been taking the wrong medicine for years or in worst case scenario, someone intercepted her supply," Luca said. "For how long, I don’t know. But this isn’t a mistake or an accident. This is deliberate poisoning disguised as medical treatment."
"Can you trace the origin?" Dante asked, and his voice was ice.
