Six Months Contract With The Mafia God
Chapter 417: I Want My Daughter Back
A figure stood beside it, one of Dante’s operatives, waiting with complete patience.
"Go," the operative said, opening the back door.
Dante guided Isabella toward the vehicle. She was breathing hard, adrenaline pumping through her system, but they were out. They’d made it through the tunnel. They’d escaped.
Dante helped her into the back seat and slid in beside her.
"Drive," he commanded.
The vehicle accelerated smoothly, moving away from the clearing, away from the tunnel, away from the safe house where Lorenzo’s teams were about to arrive and find nothing but empty rooms.
Dante pulled Isabella close against him, his arm around her shoulders.
"You’re safe," he said. "We made it."
Isabella nodded, unable to speak, completely overwhelmed by the reality of what had just happened. She’d escaped her father’s reach. She’d chosen Dante. She’d made her own decision and followed through with it completely.
She was free.

The tactical team breached the safe house by 9: 47.
They moved through every entrance simultaneously....front door, back door, window entries, their weapons drawn, their movements coordinated and efficient.
Room by room, they cleared the building.
Living room: empty.
Kitchen: empty.
Main bedroom: empty.
Secondary bedroom: empty.
Master bathroom: towels on the floor, still slightly damp, but no occupants.
The villa was completely, absolutely empty.
No Dante. No Isabella. No signs of occupation except for the towels and a laptop left on the bed that one of the team members immediately began examining.
"Villa is clear," the team leader reported over his radio. "No targets located. I repeat, no targets located."

Lorenzo arrived at the safe house twenty minutes after his team had breached it.
He moved through the empty rooms with his head of security beside him, understanding with absolute clarity what had happened.
They were gone.
His daughter was GONE.
Isabella had been RIGHT HERE, in this building, completely within his reach, and she’d escaped.
"How?" Lorenzo demanded, his voice ice and fury mixed.
"There’s a tunnel," his head of security reported, pointing to the hidden door that his teams had discovered. "Underground passage. Emerges on the other side of the property line, outside your territory."
Lorenzo moved to the tunnel entrance and stared into the darkness.
Dante had escaped through an underground tunnel. Which meant Dante had known about it all along. Which meant Dante had prepared for this scenario before he’d even taken Isabella. Which meant Lorenzo had been completely, utterly outmaneuvered.
"How long ago did they leave?" Lorenzo demanded.
"Based on the warmth of the towels in the bathroom, approximately thirty to forty minutes," his security chief said.
Forty minutes.
They had a forty-minute head start.
Lorenzo’s phone rang.
He answered, already knowing who it was before hearing the voice.
"We lost them," the man Lorenzo hired to track Isabella said simply. "Our men were too slow."
"I want them found," Lorenzo said, his voice absolutely controlled despite the rage burning beneath. "I want Dante Romano and my daughter located, and I want them brought to me alive. Do you understand?"
"Your daughter made her choice," the voice said coldly. "She chose Dante over her family. She chose to leave with him willingly. That choice has consequences."
"I don’t care about consequences," Lorenzo said. "I want my daughter back."
The line went dead.
Lorenzo stood in the empty safe house, surrounded by his ineffective tactical team, understanding with crystal clarity that he’d been out-strategized, out-planned, and completely defeated.
And the hunt was just beginning.
***
The SUV moved through the night on secondary roads, headlights dim, Dante’s operative driving with the precision of someone who’d done this a hundred times.
Dante held Isabella close, feeling her slowly relax against him as the reality of their escape settled.
His phone buzzed silently, a message from Luca: "Plan B activated successfully. No pursuit yet. Where to next?"
Dante typed back: "South. We’re heading south out of Lorenzo’s territory. Once we’re clear, we’ll reassess."
He knew Lorenzo would be searching. He knew the hunt would expand. But for now, they were ahead.
He looked down at Isabella, asleep against his shoulder, her hand gripping his jacket even in sleep.
She’d given up everything...her family, her status, her safety, for him. And he was going to spend the rest of his life making sure that choice was worth every consequence it carried.
"Where are we going?" Isabella mumbled sleepily.
"Somewhere safe," Dante said. "Somewhere your father can never reach."
She nodded against his chest and drifted back to sleep.
***
Lorenzo stood in the empty bedroom, staring at the bed where Dante had been sitting just hours ago.
His daughter had chosen that man.
His brilliant, beautiful, carefully controlled daughter had looked at the life he’d built for her, the alliances he’d orchestrated, the future he’d planned, and she’d chosen to walk away from all of it for a mafia lord who’d specifically targeted her to hurt her father.
And the worst part? She was probably happier now than she’d ever been in his house.
"Find them," Lorenzo commanded his security chief. "I don’t care what it takes. I want them found."
"And then?" his security chief asked.
"Then we decide what to do with the man who stole my daughter," Lorenzo said. "And maybe.....if I’m feeling merciful, we bring her home."
But even as he said it, Lorenzo understood the truth.
Isabella wasn’t coming home. Not willingly. Not ever.
She’d made her choice. And Dante Romano had given her something he never could: the freedom to make it.

POV: DANTE
The SUV moved steadily south through the night.
The secondary roads were quiet.....almost no traffic, just the occasional car passing in the opposite direction. Dante’s operative drove with the precision of someone who’d done this a thousand times before, knowing exactly where to go, how fast to travel, when to turn.
Dante sat in the back seat beside Isabella, one hand holding his phone as he navigated, his other hand resting on Isabella’s knee.
She had woken up minutes ago and was now looking out the window at the dark Roman countryside passing by...hills and trees and occasional distant lights from farmhouses. Her hand covered his, holding it like it was the most precious thing in the world.
"Where are we going?" Isabella asked quietly.
