Six Months Contract With The Mafia God
Chapter 416: Prepare for Plan B
Isabella’s expression shifted from concern to confusion.
"Are we leaving here?" she asked. "I thought you said it was safe here, Dante."
"Yes, it is safe," Dante said. "But we’re still within your father’s territory. So we need to leave."
Isabella processed this information, understanding the implication. This safe house wasn’t permanent. It was temporary. A way station. A place to regroup before moving on to somewhere truly beyond Lorenzo’s reach.
"Where will we go?" Isabella asked.
"Somewhere your father can’t reach," Dante said simply. "Somewhere we can be together without looking over our shoulders constantly."
Before Isabella could respond, Dante’s phone rang.
He glanced at the screen...Luca, and then looked at Isabella apologetically before picking up.
"Yes?" Dante said into the phone.
He listened for a moment, and Isabella could see the shift in his expression.
"Lorenzo’s men are within the perimeters of the safe house?" Dante said, his voice absolutely calm despite the words.
Isabella’s body went rigid. They’d been found.
Luca’s voice came through the phone...muffled from Isabella’s perspective, but she could hear the urgency beneath the words.
"What should we do?" Luca asked.
"Prepare for Plan B," Dante responded without hesitation.
"Yes, boss," Luca confirmed, and the call ended.
Dante set down the phone and looked at Isabella.
Fear was written across her face.
"What happened?" she asked. "Is anything wrong?"
Dante moved closer to her and took her hand.
"Nothing I wasn’t expecting," he said, and there was absolute certainty in his voice. "But we need to leave very soon."
"How soon?" Isabella asked, and there was a tremor in her voice now.
"Within the hour," Dante said. "Maybe less."
He stood and walked to the window, looking out at the perimeter of the safe house.
Isabella couldn’t see anything from where she was sitting, but she could imagine what Dante was seeing, her father’s tactical teams positioning themselves around the property. Her father’s men, coming for her, coming to take her back, coming to punish Dante.
"Will we make it?" Isabella asked quietly.
Dante turned back to face her.
"Yes," he said simply. "Because we’re prepared. Because I’ve been planning this since the moment I decided to take you."
He moved back to her and pulled her close.
"Trust me," he said.
And Isabella did. Completely. Absolutely. Regardless of everything she’d been taught about trust and loyalty and family, she trusted this man who’d chosen her, who’d claimed her, who was now fighting to keep her.
"I trust you," she whispered.
"Then get dressed," Dante commanded, his voice shifting into operational mode. "Pack only what you can carry. We’re leaving in forty-five minutes."
Isabella nodded and moved off the bed.
As she gathered her clothes to dress, as she understood with absolute clarity that her old life was truly over, she felt something unexpected.
Not fear. Not regret.
Freedom.
For the first time in her life, she was making her own choices. And those choices had consequences that were real and dangerous and absolutely worth it.

THE ESCAPE — 9:15 PM
Isabella moved through the safe house bedroom with urgent, economical movements.
Her clothes went into a small bag....not a suitcase, something manageable that she could carry. Dante had been clear: travel light, move fast, nothing that would slow them down.
In the bathroom, she grabbed her toothbrush and basic toiletries. In the living area, she looked around one last time at the space that had been their sanctuary for such a brief time.
Dante appeared in the doorway, already fully dressed and packed, a single bag slung across his body.
"Ready?" he asked.
"Yes," Isabella said, though her voice trembled slightly.
"Then we go. Now."
He took her hand and led her deeper into the safe house, not toward the main exits, but toward a back section of the building that Isabella hadn’t even known existed.
Behind a bookshelf in what appeared to be a storage closet, there was a door. Dante pulled it open, revealing darkness beyond.
"Tunnel," he said simply. "Built into this property fifty years ago."
Isabella looked into the darkness, then back at Dante.
"I’m scared," she whispered.
"I know," Dante said. "But you’re with me. And I won’t let anything happen to you."
He produced a small flashlight from his bag and handed it to her.
"Stay close," he said. "Hold my hand. Don’t let go."
Isabella gripped his hand, and together they stepped into the tunnel.
***
The tunnel was old and cold and absolutely dark except for the beam of the flashlight.
Their footsteps echoed off concrete walls. The air was damp and smelled like earth and stone. The tunnel was narrow enough that their shoulders were almost touching as they moved through it.
Isabella’s breathing was rapid, her fear tangible, but she didn’t let go of Dante’s hand.
"How far?" she asked.
"About two kilometers," Dante responded. "It emerges on the other side of the property line, outside your father’s territory. There’s a vehicle waiting."
They walked deeper into the darkness.
The tunnel seemed endless, a passage that stretched on infinitely beneath the earth. But Dante moved with absolute certainty, as if he’d walked this path a hundred times before. Perhaps he had. Perhaps he’d been planning this escape route long before he’d ever met Isabella.
"Keep moving," he urged. "We don’t have much time."
Behind them, Isabella could hear nothing. No sounds of pursuit. No indication that anyone was coming after them. But the urgency in Dante’s voice suggested he was acutely aware of how little time they had before her father’s team breached the safe house.
The tunnel began to slope upward.
After what felt like an eternity but was probably only fifteen minutes, they saw light ahead. Real light. Moonlight streaming in through an opening.
"Almost there," Dante said.
They emerged from the tunnel into a small clearing surrounded by trees. The moonlight was bright enough to see clearly now.
A black SUV was parked at the edge of the clearing, engine running, headlights off.
