Six Months Contract With The Mafia God

Chapter 230: Come Back To Us

Test Subject Holding Areas: Basement level. 250+ subjects. Automated feeding and medical monitoring systems.

Security: Keycard access, biometric scanners on sensitive areas, 24-hour surveillance with motion sensors in restricted zones. Guards stationed at entry points. Perimeter fencing with motion sensors.

Staff: Approximately 80 employees total. Research team of 12. Medical staff of 8. Administrative of 15. Security of 12. Maintenance/support of 33.

Shift rotations: Day shift (6 AM - 2 PM), afternoon shift (2 PM - 10 PM), night shift (10 PM - 6 AM).

Dr. Aleksandr Volkov: Contracted consultant arriving for two-week assessment period. During this time, he would be assigned to Dr. Elizabeth’s team. Housing provided on-site in secure dormitory.

Contact protocol: No external communication devices allowed. No cell phones. No internet access except through monitored facility computers. Complete isolation from outside world.

Dimitri printed nothing. Took no notes. Just read and committed every detail to memory.

He heard Eve moving in the bedroom around 7 AM. She would be awake now, realizing he was gone from bed. Knowing what that meant.

But he had one more task before he could see her.

He called Marco.

The phone was answered immediately...Marco had been waiting for this call.

"Status," Marco said.

"Packet received. Facility specs clear. I have the layout."

"Good. Boss what’s your assessment?"

Dimitri closed his eyes and visualized the facility schematic in his mind. Three levels of research. Basement with subjects. Security concentrated at entry and in restricted labs.

"Placement points," he said quietly. "Ground level...main structural supports in the mechanical room. Second level...the primary lab where viral samples are stored. Third level...Dr. Elizabeth’s office and the secure data vault. Basement...the subject holding areas. We need them destroyed completely."

"Understood," Marco said. "We have the devices prepared. Small enough to be concealed in standard equipment cases. Powerful enough to create cascading structural failure. Once detonated, the facility will collapse inward."

"Timeline for placement?"

"You have seventy-two hours maximum. If you work efficiently, you can place everything within the first forty-eight hours. Then you wait for the optimal moment to detonate."

"The moment my cover is blown," Dimitri said.

"Exactly. The moment they discover you, you activate. Building comes down. Everything inside is destroyed. You extract in the chaos."

There was a pause.

"Boss," Marco said, and his voice shifted....less operational, more human. "Come back to us."

"I will," Dimitri said, and meant it.

He ended the call.

At 9 AM, he called an emergency meeting.

Marco arrived first, Behind him came Mike. Thomas arrived last, Behind him was Claude....the strategist who’d been coordinating logistics since the beginning.

They gathered in Dimitri’s study, the door locked, a white noise machine running to defeat any surveillance devices that might have been planted.

Dimitri laid out the facility schematic on the desk, printed from memory, rough but accurate.

"Primary location," he said, tapping the center of the building. "Three accessible levels. Basement with test subjects. Second floor with virus samples and primary research. Third floor with Dr. Elizabeth and sensitive data."

He traced his finger across the blueprint.

"Placement will happen incrementally. First 48 hours, I position devices in these locations." He pointed to the structural supports, the lab areas, the basement. "Once everything is in place, I wait for optimal moment."

"Which is?" Thomas asked.

"The moment they discover what I am. Likely Monday or Tuesday during my second day when they realize I’m not just gathering information, I’m gathering evidence. Or when they discover I’m accessing restricted areas."

Marco was studying the schematic intently. "And the bombs themselves?"

"Small. Concealable in maintenance equipment, research apparatus, ventilation fixtures. Nothing obvious. Each one is triggered by a central detonator that I’ll carry on my body in a concealed location."

"Inside a watch?" Claude suggested. "Standard watch mechanism with electronic override?"

"Exactly. The moment I activate it, all devices trigger simultaneously within a five-second window. Cascading structural failure. The building collapses. Everyone inside dies. The virus samples are destroyed in the collapse and resulting fire. The Covenant ceases to exist."

Mike had been silent until now. He looked at Dimitri with an expression that was difficult to read.

"And you?" Mike asked quietly.

"I’m inside when it happens," Dimitri said. "But I’ll be positioned near an emergency exit. The explosion’s force will likely blow the doors open. I’ll extract during the chaos."

"Likely?" Marco said, and it wasn’t a question.

"It’s the best plan we have," Dimitri replied. "The building will be in total collapse. Everyone will be running. Security will be overwhelmed. I walk out in the confusion."

"Or you don’t," Marco said flatly.

Dimitri met his eyes. "If I don’t, the Covenant dies with me. That’s acceptable."

The weight of that statement settled over the room.

"Eve?" Thomas asked carefully.

"Doesn’t know specifics," Dimitri said. "She knows I’m going in. She doesn’t need to know about the bombs. The less she knows, the safer she feels to let me go."

Marco nodded in agreement.

"Timeline," Claude said, making notes. "Sunday 2 PM arrival. Placement Monday and Tuesday. Detonation Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning depending on when cover is blown."

"That gives James approximately 36 more hours alive," Marco said quietly. "If we don’t activate by Wednesday morning, he’ll be dead from viral progression."

"Then we activate by Wednesday morning," Dimitri said. "No matter what. James dies inside that facility.....his body, the virus samples, the research. All of it burns."

The meeting continued for another two hours. Details of extraction routes. Backup plans if primary extraction failed. Communication protocols using dead drops and encrypted messages on facility computers. Contingencies for everything that could go wrong.

But underneath all the operational detail was a simple, brutal truth:

Dimitri was walking into hell, and the only guarantee was that The Covenant would burn.

***

By afternoon, the briefing was done.

Marco, Mike, Thomas, and Claude had left. The penthouse was quiet again.

Eve found Dimitri in the master bedroom, standing at the window, looking out at the city sprawled below them. He was still in the clothes from this morning, dark pants, a simple black shirt. His hair was slightly disheveled from running his hand through it during the briefing.

He looked like a man saying goodbye to the world.
