Chapter 2456: Exploring the cultivation realm (3)

Behind the door was a simple room, but I knew that it wasn’t actually as simple as it seemed.

After all, this place held one of the items that I wanted.

Entering the room, I ignored all of the things that were there until I saw the prize for the taking.

However, even though it was placed right out in the open for the taking, I didn’t actually reach out towards it. After all, I knew that there was another trap that was here to protect that item.

So instead of reaching for it, I went over to the side of the room where there was a painting.

This time, the mechanism for disabling the trap was hidden behind the painting. However, it wasn’t another button that needed to be pressed, it was a lever that needed to be pulled.

This lever didn’t actually look like a lever, it looked like part of the trimming on the wall. It was even so small that one wouldn’t have thought that it could be moved.

But I knew that this was the lever that would disable the trap that was protecting the item that I wanted, so I reached out and pulled it without any hesitation.

"Click."

This sound even rang out as if it was confirming that what I did was the right thing to do.

However, I didn’t go over to the item on the pedestal and grab it right away.

Instead, I went to the opposite side of the room where there was a second painting that was just like the one that I had moved previously.

Behind this painting was another trimming and inside of that trimming was another lever for me to pull.

Then confirming that it was the right thing to do, there was another clicking sound that rang out.

One would think that just the first lever alone would have released the trap, but that wasn’t the case. This was a trap that had two different release mechanisms, which just went to show how special the item was.

Of course, normal people wouldn’t know how to use this thing.

After pulling both levers, that was when I went over to the item and shattered the glass that was around it.

There was nothing that came out at me after I shattered the glass, which showed that all of the traps had been deactivated. Or else just even touching the glass would have been enough to set off the traps that were protecting this thing.

The thing that was actually on the pedestal was nothing more than a simple square made from wood.

It looked like a token, but I knew that this was something completely different.

Once I grabbed it, I pressed a part of it on the side and waited for a response. Only it didn’t seem to respond to what I did as it remained silently in my hand.

"I guess it’s out of power. It’s only natural that it would be out of power after being here for who knows how long."

In the game, it wasn’t something that would activate unless one gave it a spirit stone, so I wasn’t concerned that it wasn’t doing anything.

But then again, even if it was broken, it wasn’t as if I would be unable to fix it.

"With enough creation divine energy, I should be able to fix it."

With that thought, I put the wooden square away and turned to leave the room.

But as I was leaving, I couldn’t help turning to look at something else that was in the room.

It wasn’t something from my memories of the game that drew me to this thing, rather it was the fact that I could feel a strange energy coming from it.

"It feels like divine energy, but it’s also different..."

When I reached out towards the drawer, there were arrows that came out of the wall behind it.

I couldn’t stop the wry smile from appearing on my face, but it wasn’t as if the arrows hit me as a layer of ice formed. The moment that the arrows hit the layer of ice, they stopped moving as the ice quickly spread across the surface of the arrow.

Once the ice fully spread, the arrow shattered apart and disappeared without a trace.

It didn’t matter how many arrows were shot out at me, the ice barrier took care of every single one that came out.

Even when there were no more arrows that came out, I still kept the ice barrier up just in case something else happened. But it turned out that this wasn’t necessary as I was able to open the drawer this sensation was coming from.

"It’s a stone shard?"

No matter how I looked at it, it didn’t seem like it was anything out of the ordinary.

But I could feel the sensation even more clearly once the drawer was opened up.

I could tell that whatever was inside of this stone shard was similar to divine energy, but it seemed to come from a different source.

It almost felt human for some reason...

"Is this the energy of the immortals?"

That was the only explanation that I could come up with since that was the only thing that would feel similar to divine energy in the first place. It was because I had divine energy that the cultivators had mistaken me as an immortal.

"If that’s the case, what is this stone shard?"

Then looking around this room, I couldn’t help wondering, "Just who is the owner of this manor that they would have such a thing?"

The game had always portrayed this place as an abandoned manor that contained the legacy of an expert from the past, but this discovery really changed everything.

What if the expert that this manor belonged to had ascended as an immortal?

If that was the case, then did that mean that there were still immortals in this world or perhaps in some upper realm?

Immortals and gods, what was the difference between them?
