Sequence Highway Survival: I Upgrade Supplies in the Apocalypse
Chapter 773: Some Things Have to Be Done by Someone
Hou Junji assigned the newly arrived convoy members to Sunshine Garden.
The two residential compounds were only a street apart. Although this one wasn’t as well situated as Happy Garden, it was still quite a good place.
The newly arrived convoys were naturally overjoyed by Elder Hou’s arrangements.
Before long, the mixed convoys surged toward the neighboring Sunshine Garden.
Some people simply didn’t bother getting into their vehicles. They took off running toward Sunshine Garden.
A few Superhumans even used their Supernatural Power.
They were all trying to claim the best locations or apartment layouts.
Free housing! Who wouldn’t be tempted?
People would fight tooth and nail even when they had to pay for a house. How could they not compete when it cost nothing?
“Hey, aren’t you going to organize things a bit? You’re just letting them make this mess?”
Chu Che couldn’t stand watching any longer.
Hou Junji covered his forehead, looking as if he had a real problem on his hands. The bird on his shoulder spoke up. “I mean, I didn’t expect them to be in such a hurry either…”
Chu Che gave Hou Junji a long, serious look, then sneered. “I knew it. No one who makes it to Elder of the Silent Council is simple!”
Hou Junji looked as if he didn’t understand, while the bird on his shoulder put on an equally puzzled expression.
“Let them fight first. When things reach the point where they can’t be settled, then you step in…”
“Tsk, tsk… That’s Elder Hou for you. What a move… Tsk, tsk…”
“What are you talking about? I don’t understand.”
The bird sounded confused, its performance perfectly matching the expression on Hou Junji’s face.
Chu Che shrugged and turned to leave.
He didn’t want to concern himself with the Silent Council’s schemes, nor would he expose their underhandedness.
On the big-picture level, the Silent Council and all the Superhumans shared the same goal: to rekindle the spark of human civilization.
As long as they agreed on that fundamental goal, there was a possibility of working together.
Don’t think the Silent Council were good people who would share control of Xi City, which they had fought so hard to take, with all the Superhumans.
The reason the convoys and the Silent Council could jointly govern Xi City was simply that both sides needed something from the other.
If the Silent Council gained a monopoly on power, the Superhumans from the various convoys would never accept it. That would not only undermine Xi City’s stability, but also plant a huge risk for the future.
Both sides had their reservations, and that was how the current arrangement, with the convoys and the Silent Council jointly governing Xi City, had come about.
But throughout this process, the Silent Council would also keep working to strengthen its influence.
For example, when the people in the neighboring Sunshine Garden were fighting like mad, the council would step in to mediate. That was one of the Silent Council’s little schemes.
Of course, if the day ever came when things truly settled down, the Silent Council and the Superhumans would surely come into conflict.
But perhaps that day would never arrive.
Because, in Chu Che’s eyes, Xi City couldn’t last long.
So many people had arrived. Did they really think the Anomalies wouldn’t notice?
Xi City was destined to take in more people and Superhumans if it was to develop. But the presence of so many people would also easily attract the Anomalies’ attention.
Even with the Thirteenfold Absolute-Sealing Formation and the Wonder ranked tenth, the Ghost-Suppressing Tower, the outcome couldn’t be changed.
Unless humanity produced a genuine Sequence 9.
Still, everything depended on what people did. Some things had to be done by someone.
Some mistakes had to be made by someone.
…
Two or three sesame-sized objects were tossed onto the ground.
Huahua retreated warily. Her chubby, round body was surprisingly nimble.
Look closely, and you’d see that the little chubby girl was standing on a leaf. No, not a leaf, but a vine.
The vine was growing wildly, carrying the little chubby girl as it dodged around.
The Superhuman across from her pursued with a vicious grin. He raised his hand slightly, and a pillar of earth suddenly burst out of the ground.
But the little chubby girl spotted it in time. The vine moved like a little snake, carrying her plump body clear of the pillar’s attack.
The Superhuman raised his hand again, and more pillars of earth erupted from the ground, seemingly ready to swallow the little chubby girl whole in an instant.
But just then…
Strange whispers sounded beside his ears, one after another.
The grinning Superhuman froze. Then he saw that his long-unwashed hair seemed to have suddenly come alive. Every strand turned its tip toward him and stared fixedly at him.
They were obviously just hairs, but in the Superhuman’s eyes, they looked like little snakes.
A chill ran through him. He looked around and saw a Superhuman with his eyes closed, facing him and muttering under his breath.
At the same time, many vines and brambles had grown around the little chubby girl, shielding her completely.
“Curse Sequence! Fine, fine… You can have this building. I’m out!”
With that, the Superhuman turned and left.
The little chubby girl took a deep breath. “Squinty Eyes, good thing you got here early. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have been able to hold on to this building!”
Squinty Eyes said nothing.
The little chubby girl was Huahua. After Hou Junji assigned this mixed convoy to Sunshine Garden, the place had descended into chaos.
She had deliberately avoided the best buildings, but someone had still set their sights on her.
She raised her hands, and the vines and brambles around her scattered.
Like obedient little cats and dogs, the vines instantly withdrew into the ground and disappeared.
“Squinty Eyes, let’s live in this building together! With the two of us working together, no one will dare mess with us for now!”
Huahua waved to the people nearby, signaling them to hurry up and move their things inside.
Only then did Squinty Eyes react. “Right. Good thing we got here early!”
“Sounds good. Let’s team up!”
“Sure. Our two convoys can live here together!”
Huahua rolled her eyes. Squinty Eyes was great in every way, but his reaction time really made you want to pull your hair out.
“Squinty Eyes, how about we go join that Chief Seat once things have settled down?”
“He seems really strong. Then we won’t get bullied anymore!”
After a long pause…
Squinty Eyes finally answered, “Sure. We’ll go join that Chief Seat. But we’re not very strong. I wonder if he’ll even want us~”
“I’m in the Botanist Sequence. I might be combat-oriented, but I’m still in the Botanist Sequence!”
“And you’re in the Curse Sequence. The Chief Seat will definitely take us!”
Huahua was very confident about joining Chen Ye.
After a long pause…
Squinty Eyes nodded vigorously. “Sure, sure! But, Huahua, don’t tell him you’re combat-oriented. Combat-oriented Botanists aren’t worth much!”
Huahua froze slightly at those words, then drooped her head in dismay. “Got it. I definitely won’t say anything. We’ll get in first, then figure out the rest!”
Superhumans in the Botanist Sequence were valuable, but only if they could cultivate Ideal Grain Seeds.
Combat-oriented Botanists like Huahua, who couldn’t cultivate Ideal Grain Seeds, weren’t worth much.
If Huahua wanted to find someone powerful to rely on, she could only bluff her way into it.
…
From the rooftop of Building 17, you could clearly see the chaos in neighboring Sunshine Garden.
Every now and then, fighting could be heard from the neighboring compound. They were probably battling over the better buildings, with one convoy fighting another.
Chen Ye stood on the rooftop, watching the activity in Sunshine Garden. If he was right, someone from the Silent Council would step in soon.
“Plenty of people can see through the Silent Council’s little schemes. Elder Hou’s thinking is too narrow!”
Chu Che stood beside Chen Ye.
Chen Ye’s lips curled into a smile. “Doesn’t matter. I don’t think Xi City will last long anyway. Three months at most!”
“Three months would be optimistic! With so many people heading this way, there’s no way the Anomalies haven’t noticed!”
“Besides, I heard there are more people on the way!”
Chen Ye fell silent.
Chu Che was right. So many people would definitely attract the Anomalies’ attention.
Perhaps some Anomalies had already started paying attention to what was happening in Xi City.
The Thirteenfold Absolute-Sealing Formation wasn’t all-powerful.
Even the Ghost-Suppressing Tower they had seen that day couldn’t make a difference.
If the Ghost-Suppressing Tower really worked, why had Yunzhong become an Uninhabited Forbidden Zone?
Still… some things had to be done by someone.
Chu Che sighed and continued, “Forget it. Whatever happens, let’s focus on taking care of what’s in front of us. Your Guard Team Thirteen is probably about to see some major changes.”
Chen Ye shrugged. “There’ll probably be some changes, but I doubt anyone foolish enough will try to challenge me, the Chief Seat!”
Chen Ye’s battle with You Hu had probably planted the idea in many people’s minds that he was invincible and not to be provoked.
