Secret Marriage: The CEO's Pampered Wife
Chapter 382 - 362: Turn Around and Look Behind You (Part 1)
She didn’t used to like talking to strangers, and she had never smiled so radiantly before.
When a person changes so much, there’s always a reason.
At six o’clock sharp, the host’s voice rang out from the runway.
The two of them walked over together, looking for seats near the front for a closer view.
However, as Georgia Thorne scanned her surroundings, she realized something very serious.
In the very first row, she seemed to see a familiar back. ’It looks like Elliot Sheridan!’
Or maybe she was hallucinating!
Not entirely sure, Georgia Thorne watched nervously. The man slowly turned, revealing half of his profile. Georgia whipped around in a flash.
’It’s over, it’s over, it’s over! It’s him!’
He said he had a social engagement tonight. ’So this is it!’
’But he’s not even in this industry, so why would he come to see this?!’
’Did he invest in it?’
Georgia Thorne’s mind went blank. The moment she saw Elliot Sheridan, she just wanted to run.
If he found out she’d left Nina with Sharon to come to this exhibition, she was so dead.
The man in the front row turned his head, swept his gaze over the back, narrowed his eyes, and turned back impassively.
Owen Sawyer whispered something in Elliot Sheridan’s ear. When he didn’t get a response, he glanced over and saw that his boss’s expression was grim.
’He seemed fine just a moment ago. Did I say something to offend him?!’
Owen Sawyer carefully replayed every word he had said, but he couldn’t find anything out of the ordinary or inappropriate.
’What’s going on?!’
Behind them, Seraphina Goldsmith hadn’t noticed Elliot Sheridan’s presence. Seeing Georgia turn to walk away, she quickly grabbed her. "What’s wrong?"
Georgia said guiltily, "Um, let’s just sit a little further back!"
"Why?" Seraphina asked, confused. "Weren’t you just rushing to the front a second ago?"
"We won’t be able to see clearly from the back. Let’s sit closer to the front." Seraphina pulled her along, insisting on moving forward.
The closer they got to Elliot Sheridan, the faster Georgia’s heart beat, threatening to leap out of her chest.
Georgia grabbed her arm tightly. "Here is fine!"
’Any further and what if Elliot turns around and sees me?!’
Seraphina: "..."
She thought Georgia’s expression looked a little strange. She was fine one moment, and completely different the next.
Their seats were in the middle section, which was decent enough. They could see most things clearly.
Seraphina watched with great interest, while Georgia, sitting beside her, had palms slick with sweat. She watched the fashion show with a pounding heart, all while constantly keeping an eye on Elliot Sheridan’s movements.
As a result, when Seraphina tried to discuss the details of the clothes with her, she couldn’t say a thing, because she had been busy watching Elliot Sheridan the whole time.
"Are you not feeling well?" The more Seraphina looked at her, the stranger she found it.
Georgia shook her head. "It’s nothing!"
Soon, Seraphina understood why Georgia was acting so strangely.
A man in a sharp suit stood on the stage under the lights, speaking with a blank expression.
Oh, no—rather than a blank expression, his tense face seemed to show he was angry.
The speech had been prepared long ago. Elliot Sheridan had memorized the gist of it after a few read-throughs. While delivering it from the stage, he didn’t forget to look down into the audience.
He had definitely seen Georgia Thorne earlier; there was no mistake.
She had probably seen him too, which was why she had hurriedly turned to flee.
’If she’s here, then where’s Nina?!’
Elliot Sheridan was indeed a little angry. When he saw Georgia sitting with that woman, Seraphina Goldsmith, he became even more furious.
His fury was written all over his face. From the audience, Georgia secretly snuck glances at Elliot.
’His gaze isn’t directed at me, so why do I feel like he’s angry at me?’
At eight o’clock, the exhibition ended.
The instant it was over, Georgia grabbed Seraphina and dashed into the crowd, letting the flow of people carry them out.
Only when they were out of the exhibition hall could she finally let out a huge sigh of relief.
’That scared me to death!’
Seraphina looked at her with amusement. "Does your husband not know you came?"
Georgia made a pained face and admitted honestly, "He definitely wouldn’t be happy about me being here!"
"Is he really that scary?" Seraphina couldn’t imagine Elliot Sheridan being so tyrannical and domineering.
"Yes!" Georgia nodded with certainty.
Elliot wouldn’t be happy that she had left their daughter to come out.
"Anyway, I have to get home before he does. Let’s meet up again some other day!"
Just as the words left her mouth, the phone in her pocket suddenly rang.
Speak of the devil.
Georgia answered the phone, her tone more fawning than usual, completely forgetting they were in the middle of a cold war. "Honey, is there a reason you’re calling?"
"Where are you?" Elliot Sheridan’s voice sounded normal, so she figured he must not have seen her earlier.
"I’m at home!"
"At home? Which home?"
"What other home could it be!" Georgia lied through her teeth. "I’m at the old family estate!"
The other end of the line went silent for a few seconds. Georgia’s heart was about to explode. ’Has he figured something out?’
However, in the next second, Elliot Sheridan asked, "Where’s Nina? Let me talk to her!"
"Nina can’t even talk in full sentences yet, what could you possibly have to say to her?" Georgia’s lying skills were truly terrible. She twisted the hem of her shirt, her fingers wringing the fabric, when a sudden idea struck her. "Nina just ate and fell asleep. Are you on your way back?"
"Yeah."
"Okay, then drive safe and don’t be on the phone. I’m hanging up now!" With that, she quickly ended the call.
Standing in front of her, Seraphina burst out laughing. "Georgia, you’re really not a good liar!"
Georgia couldn’t have looked more miserable. "I really have to go!"
If Elliot got home before her, she would truly be finished.
Leaving their daughter was a major offense. Lying to him about it compounded the crime.
"Georgia, uh, I suggest you might want to turn around and look behind you!" Seraphina suddenly gave her a strange wink.
Georgia suddenly had a very bad feeling as a chill ran down her spine.
She slowly turned around, swallowing nervously.
Elliot Sheridan sat in his car. The lowered window revealed his expressionless face, his fingers tapping a rhythmic beat on the steering wheel.
Elliot Sheridan usually looked expressionless whether he was happy or not.
But she could always clearly tell whether he was happy or unhappy in the moment.
Elliot Sheridan was furious. His dark eyes smoldered with rage.
Georgia gave an awkward greeting, "What a coincidence!"
Her smile was uglier than a grimace. ’Could anyone in the world be more miserable than me?’
She had just told a lie, only to be ruthlessly exposed.
Elliot Sheridan gave her a cold look. "Get in the car!"
Georgia forced a stiff laugh. ’He really is furious.’
She turned to say a quick goodbye to Seraphina, then pulled open the car door and got in.
On the way back, the car was completely silent.
Several times, Georgia wanted to speak, but the sight of Elliot Sheridan’s icy face made the words die in her throat.
She admitted she was in the wrong, but did he have to be so cold to her?
As Georgia thought about it, the anger she had been suppressing began to bubble up, and she resolutely turned her head to stare out the window.
The two of them returned to the Sheridan residence in silence.
They entered the house one after the other. Sharon Ennis was coaxing the baby to sleep. "Nina, you’re back just in time. Why don’t you take the baby upstairs? She’s full now and ready for bed."
Georgia took the baby. "Did Nina cry at all today?"
"No, the little one was quite well-behaved today. She sat and played with her blocks by herself for a long time."
Nina yawned, her watery eyes narrowing as she grew sleepy.
"Alright, I’ll take her upstairs then."
Georgia carried the baby into the bedroom and heard the sound of running water from the bathroom. The man was taking a shower.
Just as she got the baby to sleep and placed her in the crib, the man in the bathroom called her name.
She was angry and didn’t want to answer, but Elliot Sheridan’s voice only grew louder.
Afraid of waking the baby she had just lulled to sleep, Georgia had no choice but to answer, "What is it?!"
"Bring me a pair of underwear."
"..."
It was his typical rogue-like behavior, to the point that Georgia eventually forgot how she was conquered by him.
They were supposed to be fighting, but it ended up being resolved in another, more intense way.
’So, should I be angry, or not?’
Georgia never had a strong opinion of her own. She rolled over to face Nina. "Nina, your daddy is a really bad person!"
Nina burst into tears with a "WAAAH," without any warning.
The crying caught Georgia completely off guard. She sat up with a headache and picked up the baby. "Why are you crying!"
"Daddy... bad... bad!" Nina sobbed between her cries.
Georgia understood. "Yes, that’s right! Your daddy is bad!"
After she said that, Nina cried even harder!
Georgia tried everything, but nothing she said could calm her down.
Finally, she gave in. "Okay, okay, I won’t say Daddy is bad anymore. Stop crying, okay?"
The crying stopped as suddenly as it had started, leaving Georgia speechless.
She pinched the little one’s cheek. It seemed this little girl was on Elliot Sheridan’s side.
Georgia carried her daughter downstairs just as Elliot Sheridan returned from a run.
Seeing Elliot, Nina, in her arms, began to wave her hands and feet excitedly, constantly leaning her body toward him.
Georgia felt more and more certain that in her daughter’s heart, Elliot Sheridan came first.
A little dejected, she thrust Nina into Elliot Sheridan’s arms. "Here’s your precious daughter. You hold her!"
Elliot took his daughter and lifted her high into the air. "Nina, were you a good girl for Mommy?"
