Secret Marriage: The CEO's Pampered Wife
Chapter 380 - 360: A Grand Gift for Elliot Sheridan 2
Georgia walked over. "What are you two talking about?"
Elliot took her hand. "I was just thinking about how to convince my brother-in-law to come work for my company. How about you help me out?"
If Georgia asked, Byron was sure to agree.
Georgia rolled her eyes at him and pulled her hand from his grasp. "I’m staying out of that."
Byron chuckled. "You lose!"
Elliot picked up his glass. "I’ll drink three glasses as my penalty!"
"Were you two betting on me?" Georgia glared at them angrily.
The two men glanced at each other, smiled, and said in unison, "No."
Georgia scoffed, not believing them for a second.
Time ticked by, and it was nearly midnight.
Beautiful fireworks continuously bloomed in the distant dark sky. Selena, suddenly energized, immediately pulled Georgia outside to watch.
Selena had bought some fireworks earlier, but when she took them out, she realized she didn’t have a lighter. Georgia hurried back inside to get one from Elliot.
Elliot grabbed her by the hand. "Don’t get too carried away!"
Georgia hummed in agreement and ran back outside, her steps light and cheerful.
Playing with fireworks was tiring. Georgia was about the same age as Selena, and she got along well with the children.
Seeing that Georgia was still playing outside and hadn’t come back in, Elliot decided to go out and check on her.
In the courtyard, Georgia was waving a sparkler, surrounded by a group of children, her smile radiant.
Byron, standing to the side, clicked his tongue. "Georgia’s still just a kid herself."
Georgia rarely showed such a playful side in front of him. Elliot grunted in agreement, able to picture Georgia and their future daughter playing together just like this.
However, Byron added something else that made Elliot’s face darken. "It’s just a shame she’s with an old man like you!"
Elliot: "..."
All that running around was exhausting.
After the party wound down and the guests had been seen off, Elliot returned to their room but didn’t see Georgia.
He went to Katherine’s room and pushed open the door to see Georgia standing at the bathroom entrance, asking, "Are you sure you don’t want me to come in and help you with your bath?"
Georgia was worried the little girl couldn’t manage on her own, so she asked again, still concerned.
A small voice came from the bathroom. "I can do it myself."
Katherine was a shy child and felt a little embarrassed about having Georgia bathe her.
After her bath, she got dressed all by herself, too.
Georgia dried her hair. "Your hair has gotten so long. How about we go to the salon and get it cut shorter another day?"
"Okay!"
Katherine no longer held any hostility toward Georgia. In fact, she would even show affection for her from time to time.
As Georgia left Katherine’s bedroom, someone grabbed her wrist forcefully.
She jumped in fright, wondering who it was, until she heard Elliot’s voice. "Come with me."
He didn’t take her back to their room, but pulled her into the study instead.
"What’s wrong?"
Elliot took a bottle of red wine and a glass from the cabinet. "Have a drink."
"I’m not supposed to drink," Georgia refused in a low voice.
"It’s fine. Just a little."
Georgia had done her postpartum check-up and all the results were good, so a little wine wouldn’t hurt.
Georgia took the wine glass and glanced up into Elliot’s eyes. Her scalp tingled. For some reason, she felt that the way he’d been looking at her was a little different.
As if he were a little angry, and also a little...
Georgia took a nervous sip of the red wine. An astringent taste filled her mouth. The moment she swallowed, he gripped her jaw forcefully and crushed his lips against hers.
Georgia enjoyed the feeling of being kissed by Elliot, but unfortunately, it still wasn’t the right time.
Georgia’s face flushed red as she pushed hard against his shoulders. "We can’t."
His breath hit her neck. "Mm."
He let out a ragged breath and pressed Georgia forcefully into his embrace, holding her for a long time before finally letting go.
Just as they returned to the bedroom, they found that little Nina was acting up again and had started to cry.
Tending to the baby in the middle of the night was usually Elliot’s job.
Elliot walked over and picked up his daughter. "Why are you crying again!"
He carried Nina into the bathroom and deftly changed her diaper.
Hearing Elliot’s voice from the bathroom as he tried to make Nina laugh, Georgia found the scene hard to imagine.
He was a man who didn’t smile much himself; it was one thing for him not to be a wet blanket, but who would have thought he’d actually try to make someone else laugh?
Elliot doted on his daughter. Aside from the one time she’d peed all over him and he’d scowled, his attitude toward her had always been wonderful.
She was certain that when their daughter grew up, she would be absolutely spoiled by Elliot.
Elliot truly adored his daughter, wishing he could spoil her to the high heavens.
This resulted in little Nina developing a fearless personality, even more mischievous than a boy.
When she was three, she took advantage of a moment when the adults weren’t looking, ran into James Sheridan’s study, and smashed just about everything she could get her hands on.
When James Sheridan returned home and saw the utter chaos in his study, he was too angry to speak.
When Georgia got home from work and heard about it, she was ready to give her daughter a stern lecture.
But Nina was clever and knew who to turn to for support. Hearing a noise at the door and knowing her father was home, she immediately bolted to Elliot’s side.
She cheerfully cried out, "Daddy!" and hugged Elliot’s leg tightly.
Elliot, who didn’t know what had happened, was quite happy. He picked up his daughter and gave her a kiss.
The result was predictable. Elliot, who was biased toward his daughter, glanced at the mess in the study, cooed to Nina that it was okay, and then told James Sheridan with righteous conviction, "No one appreciated that stuff of yours anyway. If it’s broken, it’s broken!"
James Sheridan was about to be driven to his grave by his son’s attitude. Those were antiques! And she had smashed every last one of them!
After this incident, James Sheridan didn’t speak to Nina for three days.
Nina seemed to realize she had done something wrong, and after three days, she took the initiative to apologize to her grandfather.
James Sheridan also doted on his little granddaughter. Nina, having learned from who-knows-where, was a smooth talker, and with just a few sweet words, she managed to appease the old man.
At five, while playing with the older girl next door, she not only cut the girl’s hair but also angrily brought the girl’s pet turtle—which she’d raised for over half a year—home and secretly threw it into a pot of boiling water, scalding it to death.
At six, she secretly followed Katherine to summer camp. The two sisters came back soaking wet. Apparently, Nina had accidentally fallen into a river and was lucky that Katherine found her and pulled her out.
There were too many of these old stories. Every time Georgia thought about them, her head ached.
’She’s my daughter, of course she should be spoiled. If I don’t spoil her, who will?’ And yet, that was always Elliot’s attitude.
Having given birth to such a mischievous daughter, Georgia could finally understand the frustration Chloe Gardner must have felt back then.
Nina was adorable. When she was little, she looked quite a bit like Georgia, with delicate, feminine features. But as she grew older and her features matured, she started to resemble Elliot instead.
By all accounts, Georgia’s married life should have been a happy one. She had two children, as well as a handsome, incredibly considerate husband.
Anyone would have thought Georgia was happy.
But Georgia didn’t feel that way. Instead, she felt a little frustrated.
This was completely different from what she had originally envisioned.
Her plan had been to stay home for half a year after giving birth, and then go back to work to pursue her dreams.
Not stay at home all day with the kids.
Georgia threw down her paintbrush in frustration and glanced at Nina, who was lying on the floor, happily entertaining herself.
Nina was already a year and a half old. She could walk, but she was wobbly. She could talk, but her speech was clumsy and jumbled, completely incomprehensible...
"Mama, play!" Nina said, holding up a toy and looking at Georgia expectantly.
Georgia sat on the floor and played with building blocks with her daughter.
After playing for a while, it was time for the child’s afternoon nap.
Just after she got the baby to sleep, Elliot called to ask what their daughter was doing.
Georgia puffed out her cheeks. "She’s already asleep!"
’Before, whenever he called, he’d ask what I was doing. Now that Nina’s here, it’s become "What is Nina doing?"’
She was a little jealous that he asked about their daughter first.
He could tell from her tone, and he chuckled softly. "What’s wrong? Are you jealous?"
"In your dreams!" Georgia scoffed languidly, turning on her side to look at her daughter.
Her dainty nose, dainty mouth, and dainty eyes all looked just like Elliot’s.
"Elliot," Georgia said his name. After a few seconds of silence, he asked, "What is it?"
Elliot asked. After they got married, Georgia rarely called him by his full name unless it was something serious.
Tracing endless circles on the bedsheet with her finger, Georgia took a deep breath and said, "I don’t want to stay at home anymore!"
"..." The other end of the line went quiet for a moment. Now that Georgia had finally said what she wanted to say, her heart was pounding wildly.
"Mm, the weather this weekend looks pretty good. We can take the kids out for a walk!"
The moment he finished speaking, Georgia yelled in anger, "Elliot!"
Her voice was full of indignation. "You know that’s not what I mean!"
After yelling, Georgia angrily hung up the phone.
Georgia wanted to go out and work. She was still young and had plenty of time to build a career.
She wasn’t going to let her life be constrained just because she’d had a child.
Georgia was fuming. Even after Elliot came home, she refused to give him so much as a pleasant look.
Seeing the situation, Katherine took her little sister into her room, staying out of the adults’ world.
Georgia didn’t want to argue with Elliot. She didn’t say a single word, and after eating, she went back to their room to sleep.
Hearing the door close, Georgia pulled the covers over her head, burying her face in the blankets so she wouldn’t have to see him.
A moment later, she felt a draft of cool air behind her. Georgia twisted away. "I got my period today, it’s not a good time!"
