Elliot looked at her with disappointment, as if blaming her for failing to protect their child.

Elliot’s heart ached for the child, and so did hers. But when she opened her mouth, not a single word would come out.

She shot up in bed, drenched in a cold sweat. Fear consumed her as she stared into the pitch-black room.

A boundless terror washed over Georgia. She wrapped her arms around herself, buried her face in her knees, and burst into tears.

She had come so close to death.

Blue, who must have settled in beside her at some point, sensed her movement. He let out a soft meow, as if to soothe her fear.

Georgia kept her face buried in her lap. Blue got up, padded over to her, and rubbed his tail against her arm, his meows soft and gentle.

Georgia lifted her head and stroked the cat’s fur. Blue looked up at her and meowed again.

After sitting in silence for a long while, she finally threw back the covers, got out of bed, and walked to the window to pull open the curtains.

The moon was bright tonight. Its pure, silvery light streamed in from outside, bathing the entire room.

Next, she turned on the lights and rummaged through a cabinet, pulling out some of her old drawings.

’After a nightmare like that, sleep would be impossible tonight.’

What Georgia found were sketches of a child she had drawn from imagination, a blend of her and Elliot’s features.

She had always wanted a girl, so her drawings were distinctly feminine.

She hoped the baby in her belly was a girl, one who would be cherished from the very beginning.

"Sweetheart, when your daddy gets out, we’re just going to ignore him!" Georgia murmured, sitting on the sofa with a hand resting on her belly.

But the baby was still too small to give any response, making it feel like she was just talking to herself.

Instead, Blue hopped from the bed onto the sofa and curled up on Georgia’s lap, responding in the baby’s stead.

Georgia stroked Blue’s head. "You’re not allowed to pay any attention to him either," she warned playfully, "or there’ll be no more canned food for you!"

Blue meowed insistently, MEOW, MEOW, as if he understood every word. Of course, the possibility that he was just hungry couldn’t be ruled out.

Georgia didn’t sleep at all that night. Eventually, she gave up, grabbed a pen and paper, and began sketching clothing designs.

Given what had happened the day before, Sam Yates arrived at Georgia’s apartment building early in the morning, far more vigilant than usual.

"Ma’am, please get in," Sam Yates said, opening the car door while scanning their surroundings.

It seemed this place was no longer safe either.

Before Georgia went into the studio, Sam Yates spoke up. "Ma’am, if you feel like you’re being followed at all, please call me immediately."

"Okay, I will." She hadn’t paid much attention before, but now that her child’s safety was at stake, she would be extra careful.

Georgia took a deep breath before entering the studio. Pushing the door open, she greeted everyone with her usual smile.

Luther and Felix Sinclair greeted her in return before lowering their heads and getting back to work.

Georgia carefully observed their expressions. Luther was his usual, carefree self, but Felix Sinclair’s expression was somewhat grim.

The day before, she and Sam Yates had thoroughly discussed the incident.

She had been in the studio when she got the call from the head of the dyeing factory. That meant only a few people could have known she was going there.

She and Sam Yates had come to the same conclusion: there had to be a mole in the studio who had leaked her plans.

The prime suspects were now Felix Sinclair and Luther.

Felix Sinclair had been recommended to her by Preston Larkin, while Luther had been recommended by Erin Irving.

The latter seemed more likely than the former, but Luther looked completely oblivious, not like someone with something to hide.

Felix Sinclair, on the other hand, had a different expression today. It was as if...

Georgia watched Felix Sinclair with suspicion all morning. She noticed he was constantly distracted, his eyes glued to his phone.

When the lunch break arrived, Georgia walked over, patted his shoulder, and handed him a file. "You can get this back to me tomorrow morning."

Felix Sinclair grunted in acknowledgment, setting the file aside without a single glance.

Giving him a suspicious glance, Georgia turned to leave. She had barely taken a step when Felix Sinclair called out to her. "Miss Thorne, can I ask you something?"

"What is it?"

Felix Sinclair hesitated, then asked Georgia to step outside with him. He seemed to be struggling with his words for a long moment before finally asking, "Miss Thorne, was Sylvie with you at the dyeing factory yesterday?"
