Secret Marriage: The CEO's Pampered Wife
Chapter 334 - 321: We Haven’t Taken Our Wedding Photos Yet? (1)
She didn’t have much of an appetite for dinner. After forcing down a few bites, she put down her chopsticks.
"I’m full. I’m heading upstairs."
Sharon Ennis had just brought out a bowl of soup. "You’re full already? You haven’t had your soup. Have a little before you go up!"
"No, thanks," Georgia Thorne said, shaking her head. "Mom, I’ll go with you to see him tomorrow afternoon."
"Okay."
The trial was the day after tomorrow. No one could predict what would happen after that.
’What if the charges are actually proven true?’
’No, I refuse to believe it!’
She shook her head forcefully and went into the bathroom to take a shower.
After her shower, Hillary knocked on the door. "Georgia, can I come in?"
"Come in."
Hillary opened the door and brought in a plate of fruit. "I just cut this. Have some."
As far as she could remember, the two of them had rarely spoken alone like this.
Mainly because she used to call Hillary "Auntie," which put them in different generations. She had always treated Hillary like an elder, but now...
Georgia Thorne felt a little awkward, but Hillary was much more at ease. "There’s no need to feel strange. You’re Elliot’s wife, so we’re peers now."
Georgia Thorne ran a hand through her damp hair and gave an embarrassed smile.
With Elliot in prison, Hillary, fearing Georgia was upset, offered many words of comfort, and the atmosphere slowly eased.
Georgia hesitated for a long time. The question was like a thorn in her heart; not asking would only drive it deeper. "Sister-in-law, can I ask you a question?"
"Go ahead." Hillary ate a small piece of apple, as gentle as an older sister.
"You and Big Brother are divorced... have you ever thought about reconciling or getting remarried?"
"Right after the divorce, I did think about it. But not anymore," Hillary said frankly.
"Why not? Selena is already so grown up. Don’t you want to reconsider?"
"I used to think that way too, which is why I dragged it out for so long. But in the end, my marriage ended in a mess. If I had been able to let go sooner, maybe things wouldn’t be this way today." Hillary sighed softly. "Living on my own is actually pretty good. Selena is grown now, so I’ve completely put it all behind me."
"Then how did you and Big Brother get together in the first place?"
"Us? I think it was an arranged marriage. Back then, I thought he was good-looking, and he thought I was easy on the eyes. We felt we could make a life together, so we got married." Hillary recalled her past marriage. It had been sweet at first, but somehow, as Selena grew up, their conflicts multiplied. Then Naomi Shaw appeared, dealing the final death blow to their marriage.
Georgia Thorne nodded. She debated whether to ask *that* question, but on second thought, she decided against it.
’What would be the use of saying anything now?’ she thought. ’What’s done is done, and it can’t be undone.’
"Be optimistic. Elliot will be fine."
"Mm, I trust him."
The next afternoon, Georgia Thorne and Sharon Ennis went to see Elliot Sheridan, accompanied by his defense attorney.
In the enclosed visitation room, Georgia sat next to the lawyer, waiting anxiously for Elliot.
After a while, the clear sound of metal clanged from outside. The door opened, and Elliot was escorted in by two officers. They had him sit down before handcuffing him to the table.
They had only been apart for a few days, but he had lost so much weight. The bones of his cheekbones were visible, and he didn’t look well at all.
The lawyer spoke with Elliot about the case first, while Georgia listened quietly from the side.
After a while, the lawyer gathered his things and left, leaving just the two of them in the visitation room.
"Have you been okay during this time?"
"Are you not doing well?"
They stared at each other in silence for a moment before speaking at the exact same time, their voices drowning each other out.
But they both knew what the other wanted to say.
Georgia Thorne clenched her fists and said with a smile, "Of course I’m doing great."
"I’m doing great, too. Don’t worry, Georgia. I’ll be fine."
"But you’ve lost so much weight. Are they bullying you?" She had seen on TV how inmates would get into fights in prison.
Elliot chuckled. "Who would dare bully me? Don’t let your imagination run wild."
Georgia reached out and took his hand. "I know everything."
"That child... he’s not yours. He’s your older brother’s, isn’t he?"
She remembered seeing childhood photos of Elliot and Carter Sheridan. The two brothers looked very similar when they were young.
’That would explain it,’ she thought. ’No wonder Miles has a face so similar to Elliot’s.’
"..."
Elliot’s silence was as good as a confession. Georgia asked, "When did you find out?"
"I’ve known from the very beginning." Elliot squeezed her hand in return. "I told you my relationship with Quentin Chase isn’t what you think it is."
Georgia was speechless. She really had wronged him in this matter.
’But why didn’t he deny it back then? He even admitted to it.’
"Everyone probably thinks Miles is your son. Does Quentin Chase know?"
"She probably doesn’t."
"How could she not?" Georgia was stunned.
Elliot nodded firmly. "Quentin and my brother were a mistake, and that child was an even bigger mistake—one orchestrated by Joanne Donovan."
"My brother and Quentin were both victims. They were drugged at the same time. But Quentin’s tolerance and willpower are relatively low, so she couldn’t even recognize who she was with. As for my brother, I suspect he was a bit more lucid than she was."
"Joanne Donovan? Is she insane?"
"Hmph. And she had a helper—Erin Irving."
"How is that possible? Doesn’t Erin Irving like Quentin Chase?"
"Who told you that? Even if he told you himself, don’t believe a word of it. In his eyes, Quentin is worthless. How could he possibly like her?"
She recalled someone telling her that Elliot and Erin Irving had fought and become mortal enemies over Quentin Chase back in the day.
But Elliot’s explanation was that while he and Erin did fight because of Quentin, she was just the fuse. The real reason lay elsewhere.
Erin Irving was a petty man who couldn’t stand anyone being better than him. Almost everyone fawned over him, showering him with compliments.
The only exception was Elliot, who did the exact opposite.
As an exception, Elliot caught Erin’s attention, and the two clashed during a confrontation.
Later, Erin found out that a young woman often followed Elliot around. This woman was different; Elliot didn’t give her the cold shoulder. She seemed to be an exception.
So, Erin went to Quentin Chase and started pursuing her.
It was just a means of getting revenge on Elliot. However, Quentin was unyielding, remaining steadfast in her love for Elliot.
Add Joanne Donovan into the mix, and the two of them hit it off immediately, which led to everything that happened afterward.
Elliot’s words completely overturned everything Georgia thought she knew.
The visitation time was limited. Georgia felt like she had barely exchanged a few words with him before time was up.
"Don’t worry," he said. "We’ll see each other again tomorrow."
Georgia nodded forcefully, unwilling to let go of his hand.
Sharon Ennis was waiting for her at the door. When she saw Georgia come out, she asked anxiously, "Did Elliot say anything?"
"Mom, don’t worry. He said he’ll be fine. We have to believe in him."
"I won’t be able to rest until he’s out. What kind of mess is this!" Sharon Ennis patted her chest, the frustration pent up inside her making it hard to breathe.
The lawyer had reviewed both of Elliot’s cases. He believed there wouldn’t be much of a problem with the initial hearing, and in any case, he would do his best.
The only fear was that the other side had a bigger trump card. If they had enough evidence, then no matter how hard their side tried, it would all be for nothing.
At ten o’clock in the morning, the court session officially began.
Georgia Thorne and Sharon Ennis sat in the gallery. James Sheridan and Carter Sheridan, who had been busy for days, had also made time to be there.
The lawyers for both sides were present. A moment later, Elliot was led in by an officer through a side door and took his place at the defendant’s stand.
Their lawyer was experienced and had won many cases, but he was no match for the opposing counsel, Byron Shaw.
The man was an undefeated legend.
Byron Shaw was prosecuting both murder cases: one concerning Connor Donovan, and the other, the wife of a manual laborer.
Georgia sat tensely in the gallery, her gaze fixed on Elliot at the front.
He looked much more composed than yesterday. His beard was shaved, and he had changed into new clothes, but he was still gaunt.
The judge banged the gavel, declaring the court in session.
Byron Shaw came out swinging, presenting powerful evidence. He distributed two documents to the judge and each of the jurors. "Please, take a look. The first document is the report on the deceased, Simon Larkin. The fruit knife in the deceased’s chest is sixteen centimeters long. Seven centimeters were exposed, which means nine centimeters were inside the body. If the deceased had committed suicide, the blade would have penetrated three centimeters at most. This is clearly a homicide. Furthermore, only a man would possess that much strength. The information on the second page is the fingerprint analysis from the fruit knife. It clearly states that the only significant prints belong to the defendant, while only a few of the deceased’s prints are present."
"The deceased’s husband was an employee at the defendant’s company who died in an accident. To console the family, the defendant personally went to the deceased’s home just over an hour before her time of death. The deceased met with the defendant alone shortly before she died. During this meeting, it is highly likely that they argued over the compensation for her husband’s death, which led to the defendant murdering the deceased..."
"Objection!" Elliot’s lawyer stood up. The judge glanced at him. "Overruled. The prosecution may continue."
