’What should I do? What can I possibly do?’

A few days later, the media broke another story about a car accident from years ago.

Connor Donovan, the husband of the current mayor, Quincy Rhodes, had died while driving Elliot Sheridan’s car. The post-accident vehicle inspection revealed that the brake lines had been deliberately cut, and Elliot’s fingerprints were found on them.

In addition to the previous murder charge, Elliot Sheridan was now accused of another.

A flood of negative press about Elliot Sheridan surged forth. On the day the news broke, the company’s stock plummeted, causing panic among all the employees.

As Elliot Sheridan’s wife, Georgia Thorne was under intense media scrutiny. Wherever she went, reporters would appear.

After Byron Shaw refused to act as Elliot’s defense attorney, Georgia had moved out of Byron’s apartment.

She didn’t return to the Sheridan family home, but to the apartment she shared with Elliot.

Back in its own home, Blue was clearly much more energetic than before, scampering all over the apartment. When it got tired, it flopped down in its special little bed for a nap.

Elliot Sheridan was charged with two counts of murder, and the evidence was conclusive. The trial was set for a week later.

Byron Shaw was serving as the prosecutor for the police. As for their side, although they couldn’t hire someone as brilliant as Byron, they did their best to find a well-known lawyer.

The trial, set for a week later, was highly anticipated. Everyone was waiting for the day to arrive.

During that week, Elliot was only allowed two visits.

Georgia wanted to see him, but she was afraid she wouldn’t be able to control her emotions and would break down in tears.

Both times, she accompanied Sharon Ennis but waited outside, anxiously anticipating Sharon’s return.

Despite all this, Georgia didn’t stop working. She still went to her studio every day.

In between, she also met with Erin Irving a few times.

"Miss Thorne, you’re quite the iron lady," Erin Irving said, taking a sip of his coffee while leisurely watching the news on TV.

The broadcast was about none other than Elliot Sheridan being charged by the police with two counts of murder, as well as the negative impact he personally had on the company.

"President Irving, are you mocking me? Don’t mind me, I’m just kidding." Georgia gave a light laugh and changed the subject. "President Irving, there’s a question I’d like to ask you."

"If it’s about a legal matter, I’m afraid I can’t really help you... I’m just kidding, too," Erin Irving said with a smile.

A little give and take. Now they were even.

"About Miss Upton’s plagiarism, I want to know how you found out. I haven’t told anyone else about it."

"Simple. Do you remember that Akashiman man who was always with Yulia Upton? The one who acted as her interpreter? I had dinner with Yulia Upton twice. The man had too much to drink and let the truth slip."

"So, you’re acquainted with the Akashiman man who’s always with Yulia Upton?"

"..." Erin Irving suddenly fell silent, staring intently at Georgia. "Why have you gone quiet?"

Erin Irving chuckled. "Miss Thorne, trying to fish for information isn’t always a good thing."

Georgia’s expression didn’t change, but the corners of her mouth tightened.

The man before her raised his hand and glanced at his watch. "It’s getting late. I have something to attend to."

"President Irving, take care."

Erin Irving stood up, took two steps, then turned back. "Some other day, I’ll take Miss Thorne to see Napoleon."

Georgia’s pupils dilated, and her fingers, hidden behind her back, twisted together.

"No need to be nervous. Napoleon is just a dog. A very cute one, at that."

"Is that so?" She forced a stiff smile.

Throughout the week, the Sheridan Group’s stock price fell again and again, hitting an all-time low. Some shareholders even showed up at the company’s entrance to protest.

Georgia went to the company to give some documents to Carter Sheridan.

With Elliot gone, the company was left in the hands of James Sheridan and Carter Sheridan.

The father and son duo often worked late into the night. On top of that, Elliot’s imprisonment led many major corporations to call and demand to terminate their contracts. The sheer volume of problems left them completely overwhelmed.

This was enough to show the kind of work pressure Elliot was usually under; he had to personally oversee almost everything.

Fortunately, James and Carter had Owen Sawyer to assist them. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have known where to even begin handling company affairs.

She entered the company building and went straight to the top floor.

James was now using the office that had been Elliot’s. Since James was meeting with a guest at the moment, she had to take the documents down to Carter.

When she got there, Carter was in a meeting and not in his office.

"Ma’am, please have a seat," the secretary gestured.

Georgia glanced around and placed the items on the desk. "I’ll just leave this here. You can tell him when he gets back."

She set the file she was holding on the desk and glanced down at her watch. She had half an hour; she needed to get to the hospital.

As she turned to leave, she wasn’t paying attention and accidentally knocked over a pile of files on the corner of the desk. She immediately crouched down and hurriedly began to pick them up.

A report slipped out of a black folder. When she saw the single line of bold text at the top, her eyes widened in shock.

"Ma’am, I can get that!" the secretary said, quickly bending down to pick up the files.

Georgia clutched her purse strap tightly. "Thank you."

She got in the elevator and rode it all the way down, then exited and walked briskly outside.

Standing at the main entrance, she was still in shock. She shook her head. ’How could it be him?’

Around noon, Georgia went to the hospital to see Mr. Sheridan.

In the hospital room was a middle-aged man who looked to be about the same age as James Sheridan. His temples were graying, but he appeared to be in high spirits.

He was sitting by the hospital bed, chatting and laughing with Mr. Sheridan.

When Mr. Sheridan saw Georgia, he waved her over. "Come here, little girl. This is your Uncle Sinclair, Spencer. This is my Elliot’s wife, Georgia Thorne."

The man, Spencer Sinclair, looked Georgia over carefully. "So young. How old are you?"

Georgia told him her age, and Spencer Sinclair said in surprise, "Doesn’t that make you more than ten years younger than Elliot?"

Georgia nodded and looked at Mr. Sheridan. "Grandpa, Elliot is away on a business trip today, so it’s just me."

’Mr. Sheridan is getting old. His grandson, whom he’d always been so proud of, was suddenly accused of two murders. As his grandfather, he would surely be unable to withstand such a blow.’

Mr. Sheridan huffed. "That boy is becoming more and more unfilial. He’s so busy with work all day that he’s forgotten his own family!"

"Grandpa, don’t blame him. It’s normal for him to be busy with work. He just expanded the company’s business overseas a while ago, so he might be traveling a lot for a while. It’s only natural that he can’t be home much." Georgia was perceptive. She soothed Mr. Sheridan in a soft voice while massaging his shoulders. "Grandpa, please don’t be angry with him."

"Elliot has ambition!" Spencer Sinclair had always been very pleased with Elliot. It was a shame he didn’t have a daughter, or he would have married her off to him.

Clearly, it was too late for that now. Elliot’s young wife seemed quite sweet and sensible.

Spencer Sinclair had been living abroad for over a decade and had only arrived in Portmire this morning. He rushed over to see the old man as soon as he got off the plane.

They stayed with Mr. Sheridan for the whole afternoon. It wasn’t until dusk that he unceremoniously shooed them away.

"Where are you headed? I can give you a ride."

"That’s alright, I can get there myself." Georgia waved her hands dismissively. She took two steps, then stopped and turned back. "Mr. Sinclair, are you aware of what’s been happening in the country?"

’From his conversation with Grandpa earlier, she had learned a few things about him.’

’It seemed he had left Portmire a long time ago and had been out of touch with events here for several years.’

"What’s been happening?"

"It’s about Elliot. He’s... actually in prison. Please, I ask that you keep this a secret from Grandpa. He wouldn’t be able to handle it if he found out."

"What?"

"This happened quite a while ago. We haven’t told him for the sake of his health."

Spencer Sinclair was surprised, but his mind was sharp. In a moment, he pieced everything together.

"I understand."

"Thank you."

Spencer Sinclair got into his car. Watching Georgia’s retreating figure, he couldn’t help but call out to her again.

Georgia turned back, asking blankly, "Mr. Sinclair, is there something else?"

Spencer Sinclair was curious how someone as gentle as Georgia had met Elliot. Their personalities were so different; they didn’t seem like a match at all.

More importantly, he felt he had a decent understanding of that kid, Elliot. How could he have fallen for a girl with her personality?

Only later would Spencer Sinclair realize that it was precisely this personality of Georgia’s that had Elliot wrapped around her little finger.

He thought for a moment but ultimately held his tongue, shaking his head. "Be careful on your way."

When Georgia returned to the Sheridan family home that evening, only Sharon Ennis and Hillary were in the dining room.

Elliot had been the pillar of the Sheridan family. Ever since he was imprisoned, everything had changed.

Sharon Ennis was grief-stricken over her son’s imprisonment. James Sheridan, afraid she would faint again like last time, had specifically asked Hillary to stay with her.

Although Hillary and Carter’s marriage had come to an end, she still got along well with Sharon.

Hillary had moved back into her old room to take care of Sharon.

James and Carter were still busy with work and hadn’t come home yet.

"Mom, Sister-in-law, I’m home!" Georgia said as she changed into her slippers and entered the house.

Sharon Ennis forced herself to muster some energy. "You’re back. Let’s eat, then."

Georgia wasn’t hungry. She was still too shaken by the document she had seen that morning to eat.

She held her chopsticks, listlessly picking at the rice in her bowl. After a moment, she looked up at Hillary across the table and stared blankly for a while.

’No wonder Elliot refused to talk. Does Hillary know?’

’But what I want to know now is, did he know from the very beginning, or did he find out later?’
