Secret Marriage: The CEO's Pampered Wife
Chapter 320 - 307: You Want Me to Divorce Elliot Sheridan 2
"So I’m confused right now. I’m not sure how deep my feelings for him are," Georgia Thorne said earnestly.
"I know how capable he is. I won’t be able to hide from him for long living here. Selena, I’m only asking you for one thing. Please, go back and tell him not to come looking for me. We all need some time to cool down; it would be good for everyone. And who knows? Maybe my memory will come back one of these days."
"Don’t worry. I know about your relationship with Justin. I won’t get involved with him. I’m just staying here for a few days, and I’ll move out soon."
"He and I... that was over a long time ago!" Selena Sheridan said with a bitter smile. ’And to think Justin Sullivan had been so adamant with Georgia Thorne.’
While in the hospital, Elliot Sheridan had shown her extensive files about her own life.
She remembered all the information about the people around her perfectly.
So, when she went to work on Monday, she greeted her colleagues with such familiarity that she didn’t seem like someone with amnesia at all.
She spent the morning at her desk organizing files, and in the afternoon, she had a meeting scheduled with Shirley Summers.
At noon, Georgia Thorne was having lunch with Vivian Sawyer when Nathan Rhodes came looking for her.
"Can I have a word with you?"
Georgia Thorne nodded, and the two of them found a small conference room.
"Georgia, I know I’ve done you a great wrong. If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t have lost the baby."
Georgia Thorne frowned. "Nathan Rhodes, just say what you have to say."
"Aren’t you curious about how Elliot and I met? I’m actually good friends with Quentin Chase. Do you remember when we met later on? You were there as Byron Shaw’s girlfriend, and I was there as Elliot’s girlfriend? It was because Elliot needed to avoid Joanne Donovan, and I happened to know that Quentin was back in Portmire with a child, so I agreed to help him ward off all the women."
"But I never expected him to meet you, and even..." Nathan Rhodes changed the subject. "Back then, I thought the only reason Elliot wasn’t getting married was because he was still hung up on Quentin Chase. I was actually planning to create an opportunity for them to meet, but I was a little too late. By then, I’d heard you two had gotten married. It’s not easy for Quentin to raise a child on her own, I..."
Georgia Thorne cut him off, her voice cold. "Are you hoping I’ll divorce Elliot, make way for them, and let them live as a family of three?"
"No, that’s not what I mean. I just hope you’ll agree to let Miles into the family. No matter what, the child is Elliot’s. The child is innocent. You..."
"Sorry, but whether or not that child can enter the Sheridan Family’s home is not my decision to make. You should talk to Elliot about this. It has nothing to do with me."
Georgia Thorne stood up, unable to stay in the same room with Nathan Rhodes any longer.
Georgia Thorne paused with her hand on the doorknob, then turned back to look at him. "You know what? You’ve really managed to shock me today. So, it turns out I had a child, too!"
"Georgia, you..."
Georgia Thorne returned to her office, utterly dejected. She collapsed onto her desk, exhausted.
’So, I had a child with Elliot, too. When did that happen?’
’I must have been so scared back then, and in so much pain.’
Forgetting painful things could indeed make a person happier, but when the people around you kept revealing one true story after another, it felt like having your heart carved out piece by piece with a blade, leaving you too hurt to even speak.
It was now the lunch break. Vivian Sawyer came back after gossiping with colleagues in another department and saw Georgia Thorne slumped over her desk, asleep.
"Miss Thorne, is your head hurting again?" Vivian Sawyer asked with concern.
Georgia Thorne lifted her head, tidied the documents in front of her, and denied it. "No. What time is it? We should get going to meet Shirley Summers!"
"It’s three o’clock. Miss Thorne, why are your eyes so red!"
Georgia Thorne looked down, stuffing the documents and sketches into her bag. "Let’s go now."
"Hang on, I’ll go get the car keys."
’I spent the whole morning just organizing the sketches and realized I’d already revised them seven or eight times,’ Georgia thought. ’This Shirley Summers must be a very difficult client.’
Georgia Thorne had no memory of her, but followed Vivian Sawyer into Shirley Summers’s room.
This time, there was a man with her. While they discussed the details, the man sat quietly to the side.
Other than the crisp sound of his typing, he was silent.
Elliot Sheridan’s face involuntarily appeared in Georgia Thorne’s mind. The man’s face morphed into Elliot’s—head down, features stern.
’When I was in the hospital, that man moved his entire workload there just to take care of me.’
’He’d start working and not stop for the whole afternoon.’
"Miss Thorne? Miss Thorne!" Shirley Summers called out to her several times, but she didn’t react at all.
Vivian Sawyer saw her head was bowed, her pen tapping more than a dozen dots onto a blank sheet of paper. She nudged her with her shoulder. "Miss Thorne!"
Georgia Thorne snapped out of it. "Sorry, I’m a little out of it!"
"It’s alright. You just got out of the hospital, Miss Thorne. You should prioritize your health. I’m already very satisfied with the dress design, so I’ll leave the rest in your capable hands!"
"Of course," Georgia Thorne said as she gathered her sketch paper and put it in her bag.
By the time they left the Grandview Hotel, it was already four o’clock and the evening rush hour was starting.
The cars on the road were a sea of traffic. Vivian Sawyer had just driven out of the underground garage and into the flow, only to be forced to a standstill.
A soft song played inside the car, and Vivian Sawyer hummed along quietly. Georgia Thorne suddenly turned her head to look at her. "I heard my car accident happened right here?"
"I think so, yes. You don’t remember?"
Georgia Thorne pursed her lips and stared at the crosswalk. Her vision started to turn red, and she vaguely felt a tightness in her chest.
’Blinding lights. A black car hurtling toward me. No time to dodge. The impact. A chaotic ROARING filling my head.’
The more she thought about it, the more her head ached. ’Is that how the accident happened?’
The traffic ahead cleared, and Vivian Sawyer drove away.
Vivian Sawyer dropped Georgia Thorne off in front of Justin Sullivan’s apartment building and then left.
She was staying at Justin Sullivan’s place for the time being, as he was away on a business trip.
The elevator chimed—DING!—and the doors opened.
Before she even stepped out, she heard a sharp meow. Georgia Thorne quickened her pace and followed the sound.
She saw a cage by her door. Inside was a snow-white cat, whose blue eyes lit up with excitement when it saw her.
It let out a series of high-pitched MEOWS. Next to the cage was a package filled with all sorts of cat food.
’This cat... I’ve seen it on my phone. I think it’s mine, but it’s supposed to be living at Elliot Sheridan’s place.’
’He knows I’m living here. He must know. He must have come here.’
’No one else would have brought the cat here. It had to be him!’
She opened the door and brought the cat and the food inside.
Blue didn’t like being in the cage; it preferred wide, open spaces. It meowed nonstop, rubbing its body against the bars until Georgia Thorne finally let it out.
Once free, Blue didn’t run off. Instead, it kept rubbing against Georgia Thorne, probably because it was hungry.
Georgia Thorne stroked its head. "Hang on, I’ll get you some food."
She picked up the cat food and walked toward the kitchen, with Blue trotting happily behind her.
After feeding the cat, she watched how happily it ate and realized she was a little hungry herself. She opened the kitchen fridge and saw it was fully stocked with food.
Too lazy to cook, she rummaged through a cupboard, found a pack of instant noodles, and boiled them.
She carried the pot out and was just about to eat when Blue, perhaps attracted by the smell of the noodles, came running from the sofa, jumped onto the dining table, and buried its nose in the bowl to sniff.
"You’ve already eaten. This is mine," Georgia Thorne said, pushing its head away and warning it sternly.
Blue didn’t understand her. After being pushed away, it shamelessly snuggled up to her again.
With no other choice, Georgia Thorne had to hold it in her lap. "Did I used to spoil you this much? Or was it Elliot who indulged you?"
Blue seemed to understand Georgia Thorne’s meaning. It could look but not eat, and it lost interest in the noodles.
It lay on Georgia Thorne’s lap, letting out a low purr.
That night, Georgia Thorne had a nightmare and woke up drenched in sweat.
Feeling sticky and uncomfortable, she got up to take a hot shower.
When she came back, two glowing eyes appeared in the darkness. Blue had taken over her pillow.
She went over, moved Blue aside, and got under the covers to sleep. Before long, Blue snuggled up against her again.
It covered her whole face with its furry body so that every breath was a mouthful of fur. Resigned, Georgia Thorne hugged it to her chest and went to sleep.
"Blue, if you keep kneading on me, I’m throwing you out!"
Shirley Summers wanted her wedding to be perfect. She had even personally selected the fabric for her wedding dress and had it delivered.
"Secretary York, thank you for your trouble."
"Not at all, Miss Thorne." Secretary York directed the men to place the items in the office, then said to her quietly, "Miss Thorne, Mr. Tate would like to see you. I was wondering if you might have a moment?"
"Mr. Tate is downstairs right now. It won’t take up much of your time."
Georgia Thorne wanted to refuse, but she changed her mind. "Alright, then."
"Mr. Tate, what can I do for you?" Georgia Thorne asked, looking warily at the man across from her.
"Miss Thorne, regarding our last conversation, I wanted to ask: what is the relationship between Hannah Gardner and Chloe Gardner?"
"Who?"
Georgia Thorne didn’t understand what he was talking about. "Mr. Tate, I have amnesia. I don’t remember anything from the last few years, so I certainly don’t know the relationship between Hannah Gardner and Chloe Gardner. However, I did have a middle school classmate named Chloe Gardner."
"Amnesia from the car accident?"
"Yes. I’m sorry I can’t be of more help."
"It’s alright."
"Is there anything else, Mr. Tate? If not, I should get back to my office. There’s still a lot of work to be done on your fiancée’s wedding dress." Georgia Thorne deliberately stressed the word "fiancée," hoping Mr. Tate would understand her meaning.
