Chapter 319 - 306: You Want Me to Divorce Elliot Sheridan (1)

Passing by the doctor’s office, Miles couldn’t stop worrying about his mother. He wriggled out of Sharon Ennis’s arms, pushed open the door, and saw two people in the middle of a huge argument.

When Elliot Sheridan walked over, Miles grabbed tightly onto his pant leg. "Dad!"

’They say you’re supposed to feel an instant bond with your own child, but looking at him, I feel absolutely nothing.’

"Let go!"

Miles refused, his chubby little hands gripping even tighter. He asked timidly, "Daddy, were you fighting with Mommy?"

"Please don’t fight with Mommy, okay?" As smart as Miles was, he was still just a child.

Seeing his parents arguing, and especially seeing his mother crying, he was at a loss. He instinctively clung to Elliot Sheridan, not wanting him to leave.

Elliot Sheridan looked down and pried the boy’s hands away. "Do you want to stay with your mother, or do you want to come with me?"

’Georgia said that if this child is mine, we’ll get a divorce.’

’Even if we divorce, I won’t marry Quentin. I can’t give Miles a complete family.’

Miles fell silent, his large, watery eyes glistening with tears. Quentin Chase wiped away her own tears, walked over, and picked up the boy. "Miles, stop causing trouble. Let’s go home with Mommy."

Holding her son, she looked at Elliot Sheridan and Sharon Ennis apologetically. "I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have brought him back. My apologies for disturbing you."

"Don’t say that. The child is innocent. Oh, dear..." Sharon Ennis trailed off, at a loss for words. She looked at the boy in Quentin Chase’s arms, but failing to find the right thing to say, she glanced toward Elliot Sheridan.

"Quentin Chase, you have two options. One, the child stays with me. Two, he stays with you. Think about it and let me know your decision."

"There’s no need to think about it. I’ll raise him myself!" Quentin Chase looked down at the child in her arms. When she looked up again, her eyes were filled with steely resolve. "Let’s just pretend this paternity test never happened. I’m taking him home now."

To say she wasn’t disappointed would be a lie.

’I can’t believe Elliot would say something like that to me.’

"Wait, Quentin, you—" Sharon Ennis started to follow, but Elliot stopped her. "Mom!"

Sharon Ennis turned back. "Elliot, that’s your son. Are you really planning to cut him out of your life forever?"

"I don’t know!"

For the first time, Elliot Sheridan felt a wave of frustration, a suffocating weight in his chest that he couldn’t release.

’Quentin got pregnant without my knowledge, carried the baby for ten months, gave birth, and then raised him all by herself.’

’For the past few years, I’ve had no part in his life.’

’I feel no fatherly affection for Miles. In fact, I even disliked him when we first met.’

’The kid is too hostile toward Georgia. It’s better if Quentin raises him on her own.’

"But at the end of the day, he’s still your son. You can’t just..."

"Mom!" Elliot Sheridan said sternly, his brow furrowed and his face etched with exhaustion. "Do you know what Georgia told me this morning?"

"She said that if this child is really mine, we’re getting a divorce! Georgia can’t accept me being the father of another woman’s child, don’t you get it?"

"If Quentin’s son doesn’t live with me, my marriage to Georgia still has a sliver of hope. If you don’t want to see your son’s marriage fail, then do nothing. And most importantly, do not go looking for Quentin Chase!"

"..."

In the hospital room, Georgia Thorne was distractedly packing and repacking the few articles of clothing she had.

Seeing the clothes only get messier, she finally just shoved everything into her bag, zipped it shut, and put it out of sight.

’The results should be back by now.’

’Elliot still hasn’t come to tell me what’s going on. That must mean the child is his.’

’Are the three of them having a happy family reunion right now?’

Her mind a tangled mess, Georgia Thorne grabbed her bag and called Justin Sullivan. "Are you at the entrance? I’m on my way."

After hanging up, Georgia Thorne took out a note she had already written and tucked it under her cell phone.

Then, she slung the bag over her shoulder and walked out.

By the time Elliot Sheridan rushed back, Georgia Thorne was just stepping into the elevator.

As the elevator descended, the distance between them grew.

The hospital room was empty. He instinctively called Georgia’s phone, only to hear it ringing from inside the room.

He walked over and saw a note tucked under the phone. On it was written a single word: "Congratulations!"

Damn it!

’Where did she go?!’

Elliot Sheridan asked the nurse at the station, but she shook her head, saying she hadn’t seen Georgia Thorne leave.

He cursed under his breath and hurried downstairs.

The hospital’s ground-floor lobby was crowded with patients. He scanned the bustling crowd, but Georgia was nowhere to be seen.

The veins on the back of his hand bulged as he crumpled the note, the paper crinkling in his fist. He was about to toss it aside when he noticed a few lines of text written on the back.

"Elliot, if you were calm enough not to throw this note away, you’ll see what I’ve written. I’m not leaving town, and I’m not hiding from you. I just need some time to process this. In the meantime, please don’t come looking for me."

Sharon Ennis followed him down and found her son standing dejectedly in the lobby. She trotted over, bag in hand. "Where did Georgia go?"

"Is she angry? Is she still talking about divorcing you? Elliot, why aren’t you saying anything? You’re going to be the death of me!"

Meanwhile, Georgia Thorne left the hospital and got straight into Justin Sullivan’s car.

"Where do you want to go?"

"Can I stay at your place for a few days?"

"What’s wrong?"

"We’re having some problems. I need some time to think."

"What kind of problems?"

"His first love came back... with their son," Georgia said, not trying to hide anything from Justin Sullivan.

She let out a bitter laugh. ’How could something so ridiculous happen to me?’

Justin Sullivan remained silent. He knew Georgia’s personality well.

"I have an apartment you can stay at."

"Thank you."

"You’re welcome."

Justin Sullivan raised an eyebrow and stepped on the accelerator, pulling away from the curb.

’Is this heaven giving me another chance? A chance to pursue Georgia?’

At Justin Sullivan’s downtown apartment, the door swung open before he could even unlock it.

The person inside was Selena Sheridan. When she saw Georgia Thorne returning with Justin Sullivan, the worried look on her face instantly fell.

Georgia was stunned to see her. "Selena, what are you doing here?"

Selena Sheridan forced an awkward smile, her cool gaze shifting to the man beside Georgia. Her throat felt as if it were stuffed with cotton, and she couldn’t get a word out.

’Her relationship with Justin Sullivan... it was a tangled mess, impossible to explain.’

Justin Sullivan, however, acted perfectly natural. As he led Georgia inside, he explained, "Aren’t you and Selena good friends? She heard you were being discharged today, so she came over especially to see you."

"Oh, really?" Georgia looked at Selena Sheridan doubtfully. Selena confirmed Justin’s explanation with a nod.

"Selena, it’s been so long!" Georgia reached out and hugged her.

"Long time no see."

Selena Sheridan awkwardly accepted the hug. Out of Georgia’s line of sight, Justin Sullivan mouthed to her, "Why are you back from Breccon?"

She let out a dry, mirthless laugh. ’That’s right, why did I come back from Breccon?’

’Aren’t I just a glutton for punishment!’

Pretending she hadn’t seen Justin’s expression, Selena let go of Georgia and pulled her down to sit. "Georgia, you got out of the hospital today, why didn’t you..."

"She’ll be staying here for a while," Justin interjected, seeming to guess what Selena was about to ask.

"Is that so?"

Georgia nodded, then looked at Justin apologetically. "Am I causing trouble for you two?"

"Of course not," Justin said, pouring her a glass of water. "Sit here for a bit. Selena, I need to talk to you for a second."

Georgia sat alone in the living room while Justin pulled Selena into the kitchen to talk.

"Justin Sullivan, what is going on? Why did Georgia come back with you? My uncle, he..."

"Don’t mention Elliot Sheridan in front of Georgia!"

"What?"

"Instead of asking me, why don’t you go back to the Sheridan estate and find out what happened? Georgia came with me of her own free will; I didn’t force her in any way." Justin’s voice was soft, but it carried a warning. "And you’d be best to head back to Breccon. Don’t stay here."

"You were the one who sought me out, and now you’re trying to kick me out!" Selena snapped, her heart turning cold toward Justin. "Justin Sullivan, you’re a despicable, shameless bastard!"

"I don’t deny it. Selena, I know I owe you a great deal—more than I can ever repay in this lifetime. Maybe in the next. But if you want me to have any happiness for the rest of my life, you will not get involved in this."

"The two of you will never be together! Georgia and my uncle are so in love. You don’t stand a chance!"

"I may not have had a chance before, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have one now!"

Justin Sullivan was filled with confidence. This time, it felt like even fate was on his side.

’The time, the place, the people—everything is perfect.’

"When we go out, try to look a little more pleasant. Otherwise, Georgia will get suspicious."

Justin Sullivan and Selena Sheridan emerged from the kitchen together, their expressions as neutral as when they went in, as if nothing had happened.

Selena and Georgia were the best of friends, and Georgia told her everything.

So it wasn’t long before Selena understood what "chance" Justin had been talking about.

Georgia had amnesia, and her memory had reverted to when she was fifteen years old. Back then, Georgia had been extremely dependent on Justin, and even had a secret crush on him. Add to that the current crisis in her marriage to Elliot...

It was clear that Georgia wanted to divorce Elliot. She could never accept her husband having a child with another woman.

"Georgia," Selena said, "I know you’ve lost your memory, but I have to tell you, my uncle really, truly loves you. When you get your memories back, I know you’ll regret divorcing him."
