Sea Survival: My Luck is Off the Charts
Chapter 479: A New Event is Here, Are You Happy?
Chapter 479: Chapter 477: A New Event is Here, Are You Happy?
At exactly midnight, the system broadcast sounded.
“[Server-Wide Announcement: Dear players, the new event you’ve been eagerly awaiting has finally arrived! Have you ever envied the carefree nature of children? Now, we can help you experience it! The event begins today at exactly 8:00 AM.
“Please choose the games you want to play before 8:00 AM. Of course, you are welcome to play more than one! The available games are: Shadow Stepping, Tail Catching, Ball Chasing, Hopscotch, Catch the Little Fish, Cat Fishing, Drop the Handkerchief, Hide and Seek, Wooden Man…
“Does anything from this long list catch your eye? Pick whatever you like! Each person can play up to five mini-games at a time. Still want to play more? Don’t worry—after finishing five games, you can choose again. If you can’t even survive a single game, well, what else is there to say? Trash belongs where trash belongs.] x3”
Faye Yardley’s eyes flickered as she looked at the long list of game names. This was quite similar to the previous event, but back then, there were many Otherkin involved. This time, it was hard to say. Moreover, the system had never been so blatantly explicit in its stance before. This time, it outright stated that those who failed would be disposed of.
It seemed Logan Langdon had already gathered all the Unknown Fragments. Even the system was starting to grow impatient.
“Bah!” Faye didn’t overthink it and directly selected the first five games in a row. She wasn’t sleepy anyway, so she decided to open the chests Willow had fished up over the past two days.
[Obtained: Shadow Tracking Card x1, Tail Concealment Card x1, wood x50, Comfortable Jumping Shoes x1, Crystal x10.]
Talent triggered… Multiplied by two.
Faye blinked. Was this really something that could come out of a wooden chest? It seemed this was where the system’s compensation for her came into play.
[Obtained: Mechanical Grasp Arm x1, Flower Handkerchief x1, Nobody Can See Me Card x1, Little Flower Cat’s Fishing Pole x1, Invincible Sticky Mud x1.]
Talent triggered… Multiplied by three.
A clear smile appeared on Faye’s face. She knew it—if she wanted something, she just had to communicate directly with the system. There was no compensation she couldn’t get. However, perhaps the system thought this was enough compensation, as the subsequent chests only yielded sparse, single items.
Faye kept one of each item for herself and her brother, then sent the rest to their small group chat with a message: “These are some small props you might need for the mini-games. See what you draw first before choosing which games to play. If you’ve already chosen, try to trade with the others.”
Kyle Lewis: “I won’t join the hustle and bustle. I’ll just stay safely at the guild base. Wishing everyone the best of luck.”
Eleanor Jonas: “Thanks! I opened some too. I’ll check if I have anything you don’t and send it over. If they’re all duplicates, I’ll shamelessly accept yours for now.”
Ethan Yardley: “Master and Zephyr Sterling are still on the island. I’ll send one of each to them later so they can still complete the minimum required rounds when they get back.”
Faye didn’t care how they traded within the group. She had decided that as long as time allowed, she would use every single prop at least once. After all, there was no guarantee there would even be a next time. She absolutely had to seize this opportunity and not let it slip away.
Meanwhile, Logan Langdon looked at the fully assembled Unknown Fragments, a smug and satisfied smile spreading across his face. This time, he was destined to become the most dazzling star of them all.
“Chloe, go pacify Henry Lewis. Make absolutely sure he doesn’t leave the guild base. This event isn’t suitable for him to join.”
Seeing that their ultimate goal was finally within reach, Chloe Hughes didn’t want any accidents happening at the last minute either. “Don’t worry, we’ll all keep an eye on him. If worse comes to worst, I don’t mind using some special methods.”
Logan stayed silent for a moment before nodding. “I trust your judgment.”
If it weren’t for the fact that it wasn’t time to use it yet, he wouldn’t have delayed for even a second. Now, he could only wait until he returned from the event. He only needed to complete one game for this event. Once he returned safely, he could pull off his big move. Then, he would finally be able to break free from this annoying Sea Survival System and gain true freedom. He had longed for this day for far too long.
“Logan, please be careful when you join the event tomorrow morning. Don’t get hurt.”
Logan smiled, stepping forward to pull the beautiful woman into his arms. “Don’t worry, your man is very strong. Take good care of yourself and wait for my return.”
Chloe buried her face in his chest, her expression shifting several times before she finally just replied with a soft, “Okay.”
On the 13th, at 8:00 AM, the event started right on time.
Bella, who had been clinging tightly to Faye’s arm, looked at her now empty hands and gasped, “Faye didn’t take me with her!”
Willow rolled her eyes. “I told you, this is an event only she can participate in. Stop trying to pull off the impossible. If you have that much free time, just fish up more chests and save them up for her to open.”
In the next second, Faye found herself standing in a boundless wilderness, surrounded by a dense, teeming crowd of people.
“[Welcome, players, to the Shadow Stepping arena! A gentle reminder: Do not let anyone step on your shadow. Otherwise, you will explode with a BANG!
“The game begins in 10 seconds. Hurry and run away from the crowd!
“10, 9… 3, 2, 1, START!]”
Faye immediately took out her Dragon Coiling Stick, using it to push away the people closest to her while keeping her feet planted firmly in place. At the same time, she shouted, “Don’t move! Don’t run blindly!”
However, aside from a few people immediately next to her, no one was willing to listen.
Then, accompanied by consecutive BANGs, clouds of bloody mist exploded right before everyone’s eyes. The sight instantly terrified the crowd. Some people wanted to stop, but they simply couldn’t, terrified that the moment they stopped, someone else would step on their shadow.
In truth, the sun over the arena was positioned near noon, so their shadows weren’t very long. As long as they exercised a little self-control and maintained a normal distance of over a meter from others, their shadows wouldn’t be stepped on. However, the system’s earlier words prompting the crowd to run had worked a little too well.
Faye felt entirely speechless. Aside from those who were swept up by the crowd, what were the people who blindly ran at the first command thinking?
Of course, there were also those who tried to approach Faye to step on her shadow, hoping to turn her into a mist of blood. Although her photo had always been displayed at the very top of the individual combat power rankings, who didn’t harbor a desire to “slay a god”? There would always be a few overly confident fools willing to give it a try. They all thought the same thing: What if they actually succeeded?! If they did, wouldn’t they become famous across the entire World of Ocean Survival?
For people like that, the Dragon Coiling Stick in Faye’s hands wasn’t just for show. She sent them straight to reincarnation.
Before long, the space around her was completely cleared. Some people slowly shifted their positions to borrow her intimidating presence, but they made absolutely sure not to offend her. They also paid strict attention to their footing, terrified of accidentally stepping on someone else’s shadow—and even more careful not to let anyone step on theirs.
The sound of consecutive BANGs echoed endlessly in their ears.
Faye actually felt a bit angry. She couldn’t put her finger on exactly why, but she was simply angry. Was the system really in such a rush to wipe people out? Did it not need them anymore?
