Sea Survival: My Luck is Off the Charts
Chapter 478: The System Must Be Feeling Guilty
Chapter 478: Chapter 476: The System Must Be Feeling Guilty
“A car?” Bella looked a bit dazed. “It’s parked in the Nightfall Citadel parking lot. I didn’t touch it. I don’t know how to drive.”
Faye Yardley felt a hint of regret but didn’t dwell on it. If there wasn’t one, then so be it. After all, they weren’t in some highway survival scenario. Speaking of which, surviving at sea didn’t exactly require navigational or sailing knowledge anyway.
“Bella, if you want to learn how to drive, I can send you to my brother’s guild base for a few days.”
“Yes, please! I want to learn.”
Since she wanted to go, even though Faye’s brother wasn’t there, other guild members were. She contacted Graham Quinn and sent Bella over.
At that moment, the raft entered The White Mist Zone. However, their time in The White Mist Zone lasted unusually long this time. Normally, they would return to the sea within half an hour at most, but it had already been well over that limit, and they were still surrounded by mist. The radar beeped incessantly.
Cole Kensington emerged from the cabin and wrinkled his nose. Seeing Faye standing outside, he said, “I’ll go down and take a look.” Before she could even react, he dove into the sea.
What would happen if someone jumped into the sea while in the mist zone?
Faye had never considered this question, but her intuition told her it wasn’t a good idea. After all, passing through the mist zone meant transitioning between two completely different places. This indicated that the white mist wasn’t ordinary fog; no one knew the true distance or scale within it. If one got lost in it, Faye couldn’t imagine what would happen to Cole.
“Kingston, come back!”
As soon as Cole plunged into the water, he spotted massive Piranhas lurking beneath the raft. A cold smirk crept onto his face. So they were waiting in ambush for him right here.
Bramble and the vines extended their branches from different directions, creeping along the edge of the raft and plunging straight into the white mist. As far as Cole was concerned, it was only natural to directly resolve the trouble he had brought upon himself. Not bringing trouble to Faye and not causing a mess for her was exactly what he ought to do.
Faye didn’t go down. She walked over to Goliath’s head, sat down, and gazed at the vast, white expanse of fog. She had the survival system pull up the 3D model of the raft while simultaneously adding Energy Stones to the Energy Protection Tower to actively activate the defenses. The Energy Shield practically emanated its own light in the sea, illuminating the surrounding environment clearly.
When she saw the Piranhas launching attacks beneath the raft, Faye unceremoniously rolled her eyes. So they were lying in wait for her here. She had no idea what kind of methods the Piranha-folk were using to pin her in this spot, unable to move. Sometimes, the survival system was really as good as dead, not offering a single hint.
However, with the added light, she could finally see everything within a one-meter radius of the raft. The good news was that Cole was right under the raft. He hadn’t wandered off, meaning there was at least no immediate risk of him getting separated. Naturally, she also saw Bramble and the vines encircling the Piranhas around Cole.
Before the Piranha-folk were entirely dealt with, Faye noticed that the raft had actually been moving the whole time. Even if it was painfully slow, it was still moving.
The action underwater concluded swiftly. By the time Faye saw the white mist ahead beginning to thin, Cole, Bramble, and the vines had already eliminated all the Piranha-folk. In the end, Cole was swiftly hoisted back onto the raft, wrapped tightly in Bramble’s grip. The moment he landed on the deck, the raft completely exited The White Mist Zone and returned to the World of Ocean Survival.
Bramble and the vines had both lost a small section of their branches in the process. It was hard to imagine what would have happened if Cole hadn’t been pulled up at the very last second.
It was already past 9 PM by the time they returned to the open sea.
“Willow, give Kingston a full-body checkup.”
Cole frantically shook his head. “No, no need. Really, there’s no need. I’m perfectly fine. These minor scratches will heal on their own in no time. I should go find some good stuff for Bramble and the vines to replenish them. They got hurt because of me.”
Willow Yardley didn’t care whether Cole consented or not. She immediately scanned him from head to toe. Good—there really weren’t any major issues. As for some minor internal injuries, they weren’t particularly severe. Drinking some Healing Holy Medicine would lead to an instant recovery; even if he didn’t drink it, his own healing factor would ensure he wouldn’t suffer any chronic issues.
Once Willow informed Faye, Faye ordered him to drink the Healing Holy Medicine. As for Bramble and the vines, he was free to give them whatever suitable items he had brought out for them. After all, they were now fully mature entities. They no longer strictly needed to absorb energy through her hands. Otherwise, the Thunder Tree and the Seven-Colored Tree, which were nowhere near her, would be completely helpless.
RING RING RING!
“Mr. Pierce, are you back from the island already?”
“Yes. Master and Zephyr Sterling are still on the island. It’s an island with a civilized city; it’s quite a pity you didn’t go.” Zachary Pierce then recounted what happened after using the Truth Card. “Logan Langdon might be plotting to overthrow the control of the Sea Survival System, but judging by the system’s reaction, it seems quite pleased to see it happen.”
Faye agreed with his assessment. If the system didn’t approve of it—or at least offer secret support—Logan’s attempt to overthrow it would likely be completely impossible to execute.
“Maybe what the system wants is completely different from what Logan wants.”
“Indeed. Positively speaking, the system’s existence was originally meant to promote the evolution of humanity. We have no idea how Logan will go about it, and the informants we planted on his side haven’t transmitted any news. It seems he won’t tell anyone until the deed is done.”
Faye sighed. “Then what can we do?”
Zachary’s expression was rather grim as well. “Actively participate in the new event the system releases tomorrow and strive to become stronger. All we can do is ensure we’re in the best possible condition when whatever he’s planning finally happens.”
“Yeah, got it.”
After hanging up, Faye went to take a shower. She felt that a shower would clear her head and allow her to think more comprehensively. However, the moment she stepped out of the bathroom, she froze. She subconsciously checked the Unknown Fragment in her private inventory, only to discover that it had actually vanished without a trace!
“Damn it!”
It was truly difficult for Faye to maintain her composure. How could it disappear so easily?!
“System! System, come out! Are you the one behind the disappearance of the Unknown Fragment?!
“Say something! Don’t think that just because you’re staying silent, I won’t figure out this is your doing.
“Isn’t it way too much for you to take Miss Eleanor’s and my things without a single word and hand them directly to Logan?! Aren’t you going to give us some compensation?!”
No matter what Faye said, the system played dead and offered absolutely no response. But it was precisely this silence that made Faye absolutely certain the system was the culprit. Normally, whenever she complained about something, the system would at least give some sort of reaction. Playing dead right now was nothing but a guilty conscience.
“System, you have to give me a life-saving talisman. You’ve already taken three fragments from my hands.”
The system remained completely silent.
Faye didn’t think her demands would make the system hate her. Some things just had to be demanded; otherwise, wouldn’t it make her look like too easy of a target? Even if she was entirely at its mercy, she still had to defend her rights when necessary.
