Chapter 237: Chapter 119: Divine Extinction! Invading the Underworld?
The order was given. Deep within the eternal darkness of the Underworld, the divine domains of the Gods of Death and Sleep suddenly ignited.
Thanatos’ eyes shimmered with a cold, lethal light, while purple mist—capable of seducing any soul into slumber—swirled around Hypnos’ fingertips. Disregarding the sacred covenant of the gods, the twin deities struck directly at humanity. This was no battle; it was a one-sided slaughter of defenseless lambs.
.....
In the mortal realm, as the first light of dawn barely touched the eastern horizon, a dense, impenetrable black fog poured from the void. This was the "Mist of Death" unleashed by Thanatos. Invisible to the eyes of mortals, it was the physical manifestation of the power of demise.
Like ink dripping into clear water, the mist spread silently across the Earth. Accompanying it was the "Eternal Sleep" of Hypnos. A pale purple halo shimmered at the edges of the black fog—it appeared dreamlike and soft, yet it carried a lethal temptation that could cast all things into an undying slumber.
In Rural Villages: The first wisps of purple mist drifted through a farmhouse window. A man snoring in his bed was brushed by the vapor; an eerie, satisfied smile curled his lips as his breathing slowed and eventually stopped forever. In the next room, a woman patting her infant suddenly froze as the mist coiled around her fingers. Her eyes lost their light, and she, along with the child in her arms, sank into a sleep from which there was no awakening.
In Bustling Cities: The black fog of death flowed like an invisible tide through the streets. At a traffic light, a bus came to a halt. As the mist seeped through the windows, the driver—who had just been yawning—stiffened, his hands still gripping the wheel. His pupils dilated, and his life signs vanished instantly. The passengers behind him noticed nothing until the fog enveloped them; some remained frozen mid-scroll on their phones, their fingers never to move again.
In Corporate Towers: The "corporate drones" working through the night remained hunched over their keyboards. As the fog poured through the ventilation ducts, their breath hitched and died. The lines of code on their screens remained frozen at that singular, final moment.
One moment, the world was a cacophony of life; the next, it was a massive morgue. There were no screams, no struggles, and no warnings. Before fear could even take shape in the mind, life was simply erased.
....
Atop the peak of the Holy Mountain, Saori Kido stood in her white robes, her long hair disarrayed by the rising wind. She had been watching the dawn, preparing to gather her Saints to discuss a strategy for the Holy War.
But as the black and purple mists began to shroud the Earth, her body jolted, and her face turned deathly pale.
"This... this is..."
Saori’s eyes widened, her violet pupils contracting in horror. The power of death and sleep saturating the globe felt like billions of poisoned needles stabbing into her divine core. As the protector of the Earth, she felt a soul-tearing agony.
Driven by instinct, she instantly expanded her divine domain. A thin, almost invisible shimmer of pale gold light hurriedly covered the Sanctuary. It was just enough to shield the Saints and the local residents from the immediate touch of death.
But that was all she could do. In this Holy War, she had distributed a portion of her divine power to the five Bronze Saints. She no longer possessed the strength to shield the entire mortal realm.
"Hades..." she whispered, her voice trembling. "How dare you use Divine Extinction..."
Within the Sanctuary, even under the protection of the Goddess’s domain, the Gold Saints felt the weight of the tragedy.
Saga of Gemini strode out of the Pope’s Hall, his fists clenched and his blue eyes filled with shock. "Hades... how dare he break the rules of the Holy War!"
Shaka sat cross-legged in the Virgo Temple, his eyes snapping open as cold sweat beaded on his forehead. His realm, so close to that of the gods and Buddhas, allowed him to perceive the agonizing screams of countless souls as they were annihilated. His usually merciful expression was twisted by rage. "Hades!"
Mu stopped his repairs on the Cloths, his eyes filled with profound grief. Shura’s knuckles turned white as he gripped the hilt of his blade, and even the usually elegant Aphrodite watched the roses in his hand tremble with fear.
The Bronze Saints—Seiya, Hyoga, and the others—rushed to Saori’s side, kneeling in the face of her visible weakness and pain.
"Goddess... you..."
Saori suppressed the agonizing pain in her soul and the hollow feeling of her draining divinity. She projected her thoughts into the minds of every Saint.
"My brave warriors... Hades’ blade has already fallen upon the world. But my divine power... is no longer enough to protect every flickering light of life across this vast land."
Saga stepped forward, his voice low and heavy with resolve. "Goddess, there is only one option left: Attack! We must invade the Underworld! Force the King of the Underworld to turn his gaze away from our world! It is the only way to stop this massacre!"
A flash of uncertainty crossed the eyes of the other Saints. In every previous Holy War, the Underworld had invaded the Sanctuary. To reverse the roles was unheard of. The Underworld was millions of times larger than the Sanctuary; without awakening the Eighth Sense, they wouldn’t even have the right to step onto that dark soil and survive.
Instinctively, they looked toward the Aquarius Temple. But the one man who might have the power to stop this—Alex—was not currently in the Sanctuary.
