Sacrificed To The Triplet Alpha Kings
Chapter 430: You Brought Something Back With You
Others echoed the sentiment. Quiet murmurs of "Welcome back"
But there was also fear in their eyes.
"Thank you," Lilith said, trying to keep her voice steady. "I’m.....I’m glad to be back."
It felt like a lie even as she said it.
Sebastian’s hand found hers and squeezed gently. Lucian moved closer to her other side.
Silent support. Steady presence.
They continued down the stairs and through the main level of the estate.
More pack members. More stares. More complicated emotions written across faces.
By the time they reached the library, Lilith was exhausted from the attention alone.
Sebastian pushed open the door and they entered the quiet sanctuary of books and comfortable furniture.
And there....
Victoria.
Sitting in one of the reading chairs near the window. Looking small and tired and older than Lilith had ever seen her.
Victoria’s head snapped up the moment the door opened.
For a moment, neither of them moved.
They just stared at each other across the room.....niece and aunt, both of them carrying the weight of impossible choices and devastating losses.
Then Victoria stood on shaking legs.
"Lilith," she whispered.
Lilith felt something break open in her chest.
She crossed the room faster than she should have been able to move and threw herself into Victoria’s arms.
Victoria caught her and held her tight.....so tight it was almost painful, and both of them started crying.
"You’re alive," Victoria sobbed. "You’re alive. You’re really alive."
"You brought me back," Lilith said.
"I know," Victoria said. Her voice was raw. "I know. And I would make the same choice again. I would trade anything.....do anything to bring you back. Even if it makes me a monster."
Lilith pulled back just enough to look at Victoria’s face.
She looked terrible. Dark circles under her eyes. Skin pale and drawn. And something else....something that looked wrong about the way her magic felt.
"You’re different," Lilith said. "Your magic feels...."
"Corrupted," Victoria finished. "I used blood magic and death magic to perform the resurrection. It’s destroying my magical channels from the inside. I probably have months before it kills me."
Lilith felt horror crash through her. "What? No. We have to....there has to be a way to...."
"There isn’t," Victoria said gently. "I knew the price when I made the choice. And I would pay it again. Lilith, you’re alive. That’s all that matters."
"You’re dying because of me," Lilith whispered.
"I’m dying because I chose to save you," Victoria corrected. "My choice. My consequences. Don’t carry that guilt."
Lilith wanted to argue. Wanted to scream that it was not fair. Wanted to find some way to fix this.
But Victoria was right.
Everyone had made choices. Nicholas. Victoria. Thalia. Elena.
And Lilith was alive because of those choices whether she wanted to be or not.
Sebastian and Lucian had stayed near the door, giving them privacy. But now Sebastian spoke quietly.
"Victoria. We need to know what happened. All of it. What you did in the Underworld. What the resurrection required. What...." He stopped. "What it cost beyond Nicholas."
Victoria looked at Lilith. Then at the two Alphas.
"Sit down," Victoria said. "All of you. This is going to take a while."
They moved to sit, Lilith and Victoria on the small couch, Sebastian and Lucian in chairs facing them.
Victoria took a breath and began.
She explained the ritual mechanics.
She described the moment the ritual completed. When Lilith’s soul slammed back into her body. When Nicholas’s body dissolved because his soul had been consumed.
"There was nothing left," Victoria said quietly. "No remains. No corpse. Just....absence. He’s gone, Lilith. Completely. Permanently."
Lilith felt fresh tears stream down her face.
"Did he...." Lilith’s voice broke. "Did he know? When he went into the Veil? Did he know he wouldn’t come back?"
"Yes," Victoria said. "We told him everything. The entity would consume whoever anchored your soul. There was no coming back. And he chose to go anyway because he loved you."
Sebastian made a sound like he had been punched.
Lucian turned away and pressed his hands to his face.
"I should have stopped him," Sebastian said roughly. "I should have volunteered instead. I should have...."
The room fell into heavy silence.
Lilith could feel the grief pressing down on all of them like a physical weight.
"What happens now?" Lilith finally asked. "Nicholas is gone. I’m alive. The resurrection worked. What comes next?"
Victoria’s expression shifted to something that looked like worry.
"That’s....complicated," Victoria said carefully. "Lilith, there are things you need to know. Things about what happened to you during the resurrection. Things about what you brought back from the Veil."
Lilith felt ice slide down her spine. "What do you mean?"
"Your power," Victoria said. "It’s different now. Changed. You should have noticed it when you tried to access your power, didn’t you?
"Yes," Lilith said. "It felt like....too much. Like my power was ten times stronger than it should be."
"It is stronger," Victoria said. "Exponentially stronger. Because Lilith....when your soul passed through the Veil and was held there by the entity.....something transferred."
"What transferred?" Sebastian demanded.
Victoria looked at Lilith with an expression that was equal parts awe and fear.
"Power," Victoria said simply. "Ancient power. The kind that existed before the Moon Goddess shaped the world. Lilith, you carry the Veil’s essence inside you now. You brought back the power of the space between life and death. And it’s changed you in ways we’re only beginning to understand."
Lilith stared at her. "What does that mean?"
"It means," Victoria said slowly, "that you’re no longer just a Morvaine witch bonded to three Alphas. You’re something else now. Something unprecedented. Something that the supernatural world is going to notice."
"Notice how?" Lucian asked sharply.
Victoria met his gaze. "Every supernatural creature with the ability to sense power felt it when Lilith woke up. They felt the surge. The release of energy that shouldn’t exist in the mortal realm. And they’re going to want to know what caused it."
