Sacrificed To The Triplet Alpha Kings

Chapter 419: The Veil Fought Back

  • Next Chapter

"Hold on to me," Nicholas thought urgently. "No matter what happens. No matter how it feels. You hold on and you don’t let go until I tell you to."

"I don’t want to let go at all," Lilith thought desperately.

"I know," Nicholas thought. "But you will. Because you’re strong. Because you deserve to live. Because I’m asking you to."

The pull grew stronger.

Nicholas felt it like a rope around his chest, Victoria’s death magic reaching into the Veil, grabbing both souls, beginning to drag them back toward life.

It felt wrong. Violent. Like being pulled against the current of a river made of death itself.

But Nicholas held onto Lilith.

Wrapped his arms around her translucent form and pulled her close.

"I’ve got you," he thought. "I won’t let go. I promise."

The Veil fought back.

The entity that dwelled here, the thing that had claimed Lilith as payment, that fed on souls and consciousness, did not want to release her.

Nicholas felt resistance. Felt invisible forces trying to tear Lilith away from him. Trying to pull her deeper into the grey. Trying to make her dissolve before Victoria could bring her back.

"Hold on," Nicholas thought desperately. "Fight it. Don’t let it take you."

Lilith held onto him with everything she had.

And slowly....painfully, they began to move.

Not walking. Not floating. Being pulled. Dragged through the grey toward a light that was beginning to appear in the distance.

Life.

The barrier between the Veil and the mortal realm.

The place where Lilith’s body waited.

The pull grew stronger.

More urgent.

Victoria was pouring everything she had into this. Nicholas could feel it. Could sense her desperation. Her determination. Her absolute refusal to fail.

And beside her.....Elena’s life magic. Warm and bright and calling to Lilith. Calling her home.

They were close now.

Nicholas could see the barrier clearly. Could see the grey of the Veil giving way to something else. Something that looked like light and felt like warmth and smelled like living things.

"Almost there," Nicholas thought. "Just a little further."

But the entity was fighting harder now.

Darkness surged through the grey. Not visible darkness. Something worse. The absence of existence itself trying to consume them both before they could cross.

Nicholas felt it wrap around Lilith.

Felt it trying to tear her away.

"NO!" Nicholas thought with every ounce of will he possessed. "She’s MINE! You can’t have her!"

He pulled on the broken bond. On every trace of connection they shared. On the love and the mate ties and the curse that had brought them together.

All of it became a shield. A barrier. Keeping the entity’s darkness away from Lilith.

But it was consuming Nicholas instead.

He could feel it. Could feel his consciousness beginning to fray at the edges. Could feel the entity starting to claim him even before he let go.

"Not yet," Nicholas thought desperately. "Not until she’s through. Not until she’s safe."

They reached the barrier.

Nicholas could see it clearly now, a membrane between death and life. Thin. Translucent. Glowing with Elena’s life magic.

On the other side....

Light. Warmth. The mortal realm.

Lilith’s body lying on the stone table in the ice room. Elena’s hands glowing white over her heart. Victoria standing at the gate between the veil and the mortal world with hands blazing green, pulling with everything she had.

"This is it," Nicholas thought. "This is where you cross. Where you go back."

"Come with me," Lilith thought desperately. "Please. There has to be a way. We can both go back. We can...."

"No," Nicholas thought gently. "This is where I let go. Where I push you through. Where I keep my promise."

"Nicholas, please....."

"I love you, Nicholas thought. I love you more than I ever thought possible. Loving you was the best thing that ever happened to me. And saving you....giving you life, it’s worth everything."

He kissed her.

Or tried to. Their translucent forms could barely touch. But he felt it. Felt the connection. Felt the love passing between them.

"Live," Nicholas thought. Live a full life. Be happy. Love my brothers. And Lilith, don’t blame yourself for this. This was my choice. My gift. Don’t let it become your burden."

Then....before she could argue, before she could fight, before she could refuse....

Nicholas released his own connection to life.

Felt the entity’s darkness surge around him.

Felt himself beginning to dissolve.

And with the last of his strength, with the final coherent thought he would ever have.....

Nicholas pushed.

Pushed Lilith through the barrier.

Pushed her soul across the membrane separating death from life.

Pushed her back into her body.

He felt the moment she crossed.

Felt her soul merge with flesh. Felt her heart start beating. Felt life return.

And Nicholas.....

Nicholas let go completely.

Let the entity claim him.

Let the darkness consume him.

His last thought was of Lilith’s smile.

And then.....

Nothing.

*Underworld - Thalia’s Sanctum*

The moment Nicholas’s soul was consumed, the moment the entity claimed him completely, his body reacted.

Thalia stood over the stone altar and watched as the physical form began to dissolve.

It started with his fingers. The flesh turning translucent. Then transparent. Then fading entirely as if it had never existed.

The dissolution spread quickly. Up his arms. Across his chest. Down his legs.

Within seconds, Nicholas’s body was gone.

No corpse to bury. No remains to return to the pack. No physical evidence that he had ever existed except for the empty altar and the fading warmth where he had lain.

Thalia picked up the soul anchor crystal. It was dark now. No longer glowing. Its purpose fulfilled.

"Brave fool," Thalia murmured. "You actually did it. You traded everything for a girl you barely knew."

She looked toward the direction of the mortal realm, where Lilith’s resurrection was completing. Where the girl was waking up.

"I hope she’s worth what you paid," Thalia said quietly.

Then she turned and began dismantling the ritual circle.

The resurrection was complete.

Nicholas Blackwood was gone.

And Thalia had work to do.
