Rural Farming: My Buildings Can Be Upgraded
Chapter 82 - 81: Dimensionality Reduction Strike
Chapter 82: Chapter 81: Dimensionality Reduction Strike
In the faculty housing at the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Wang Zhongxi entered his professor’s home.
"Ah, Wang, you’re here," Professor Xing said.
"Professor, sorry to bother you again. This is the latest test report for Zhou Jianlai of the Zhou Family. Please take a look."
"What’s going on? Has something happened to the patriarch of the Zhou Family?"
"No, the Zhou Family gave a certain medicine to Zhou Jianlai and his wife. It improved both of their lung functions."
"A medicine that can do that? How have I never heard of it?"
Xing Yushu examined all the lab reports and biometric data, discovering the changes were indeed quite significant.
"Is this data accurate?"
"It’s accurate. I conducted the tests myself. The changes only happened after they took this medicine."
Xing Yushu saw the pill, picked it up, crushed a small piece, and sniffed it. He was puzzled. ’This medicine seems very ordinary. It shouldn’t be capable of producing such effects.’
Seeing his professor’s expression, Wang Zhongxi knew he hadn’t found anything unusual about the pill either.
"Are you certain there’s no mistake? The ingredients in this pill shouldn’t be able to produce the results shown in the report."
"Professor, it’s a complicated situation. Take a look at this. These are the results from Professor Sun Yannian’s research."
Xing Yushu picked up the documents and began to read. The more he read, the more baffled he became. He felt the report was simply too good to be true.
"Are you pulling my leg? How could a medicine like this possibly exist? Are you saying that with our current technology, there are still substances we can’t detect?"
Wang Zhongxi explained, "It’s not just Professor Sun Yannian. Many large pharmaceutical companies have run their own tests. From what I’ve gathered, their results all match what’s in this report."
"What’s more, a simplified version of this drug, a Medicinal Tea, has apparently cured chronic bronchitis. You can find information about it all over the internet."
"In an attempt to get their hands on the formula, those same pharmaceutical companies have used their influence to block the drug’s manufacturing approval."
Xing Yushu fell silent. His medical knowledge screamed that no drug could be this effective.
Curing chronic bronchitis, in particular, sounded like a complete joke.
But seeing his student’s serious expression, he picked up the report again. It still felt unbelievable.
"Come on. Bring the medicine and follow me to the medical department."
In the medical department’s laboratory, Xing Yushu and Wang Zhongxi personally watched as the analysis report for the drug was printed. The list of ingredients was unchanged.
After confirming the analysis was correct, Xing Yushu said, "Let’s go. We’re going to the hospital to find someone to test it on."
Once at the hospital, they went straight to the dean’s office and explained the situation.
Dean Li was amazed by their story, especially after reviewing the documents Wang Zhongxi provided. He even did a quick search online and found that there were, in fact, news articles about it.
"This is incredible. There’s quite a bit of discussion about it online. A lot of people are really saying this Medicinal Tea can cure chronic bronchitis."
"Xiaoli," Professor Xing said, "if this medicine is the real deal, it could be a massive help for patients with coughs and lung issues."
"Let’s test its efficacy first. If it works, we’ll get this approval issue sorted out."
"Right. We don’t even need to find a patient. Let’s go see Wang Songhe. He has chronic bronchitis, and it’s only gotten worse with age."
Dean Li led them directly to Wang Songhe’s home.
"Songhe, enjoying the sun, I see."
"Old Li, what brings you here? COUGH, COUGH. Professor Xing and Old Wang, you’re here too! Please, come in."
Wang Songhe scrambled to his feet, but the sudden movement triggered a violent coughing fit.
Dean Li hurried over and patted his back.
"I’ve told you not to rush around like that."
"Haha, I’ve been this way for most of my life; I’m not about to change now. What brings you all here together?"
Dean Li said, "Zhongxi here found a medicine that might treat chronic bronchitis. We were hoping you’d be willing to test it for us."
"What medicine? Quick, let me see!"
Having been tormented by chronic bronchitis for most of his life, Wang Songhe’s eagerness brought on another coughing fit.
Professor Xing said, "Songhe, calm down. We’re not entirely sure about this medicine’s effects yet, which is why we need you to help us test it."
Wang Zhongxi explained, "Many people have already taken it. We’re just having a hard time believing the results, so we came to you to see for ourselves."
"Oh, enough with the explanations. Just give me the medicine. It’s not like you’re going to poison me."
Wang Zhongxi took the pill out of a bag and handed it to Wang Songhe.
The man glanced at it, tossed it into his mouth, and swallowed it down.
While they waited for it to take effect, Wang Zhongxi gave Wang Songhe a detailed account of the medicine’s story.
After hearing the whole story, Wang Songhe also found it incredible that such a miraculous medicine could exist.
Soon, however, he discovered that the medicine was actually working. His throat felt much more comfortable, and the sensation of being unable to catch his breath had eased somewhat.
"It’s definitely working! This medicine is a miracle! The effect was almost instantaneous!"
It sounded like a con artist’s pitch, but the results after taking it were undeniably good.
"Are you sure it’s working? Why don’t we go to the hospital and run some tests?"
"Let’s go, let’s go! Let’s get it checked out."
The four of them returned to the hospital and began running tests on Wang Songhe. When the results came in, all four were stunned.
"This effect is just unreasonable. Are we absolutely sure there isn’t some undetected substance?"
"Incredible! At this rate, I feel like three days of this would be enough to cure your chronic bronchitis completely."
Dean Li turned to Wang Zhongxi and asked, "How many more of these pills do you have?"
"Not many. The drug is stuck in the approval process."
Professor Xing said, "Come on. We’re going to make some calls and get this sorted out."
They had confirmed the drug was safe and its effects were undeniably excellent, even if they couldn’t understand how such ordinary ingredients produced such extraordinary results.
But none of that mattered. As long as it was effective and could treat patients, it was a good medicine.
When a director at the drug administration received the call and heard about the medicine’s effects, he too found it hard to believe.
After learning the details and reviewing the submitted approval documents and the lab analysis of the ingredients, his first thought was that Dean Li and the others had been scammed.
However, after ordering an investigation, he discovered that the drug had already been sold for quite some time in the form of the Medicinal Tea.
Furthermore, online feedback on its efficacy perfectly matched what Dean Li’s group had reported.
Soon after, the drug administration held an internal meeting to discuss the matter.
Yang Yongjun never expected that the issue would be resolved before he even had a chance to visit Lin Xian Village.
The big boss himself had personally convened a meeting to discuss it, decisively ordering them to fast-track the approval process.
He noticed that after the meeting, some people looked very unhappy.
He asked around and learned that several highly influential doctors had called the big boss’s office directly.
However, even without the obstruction, it would still be a long process for Lin Feng to obtain all the necessary certifications.
Of course, with so many medical heavyweights now vouching for him, the process would be much faster than usual.
The drug administration, in particular, accelerated its review process significantly after the meeting convened by the big boss.
When the news spread, any pharmaceutical companies still harboring hopes of acquiring the drug saw them crushed completely.
They also realized that their actions had offended some very powerful people.
When Lin Feng received a call from Zhou Jun and learned that the drug approval issue had been resolved, he was somewhat surprised.
Hearing that it might take two to three months and that he would need to provide a batch of the Clearing Heat and Stopping Cough Pills, he felt that was a pretty good outcome.
In reality, as long as the Medicinal Tea continued to sell and the number of cured patients kept growing, the blocked approval was an issue that would have been resolved eventually anyway.
