Rural Farming: My Buildings Can Be Upgraded
Chapter 81 - 80: Pressure and Threats
Chapter 81: Chapter 80: Pressure and Threats
Lin Feng stared at the alert from the signal tower last night, his mind struggling to process it.
’A bear? There’s actually a bear in the mountains!’
He checked the specific details of last night’s alert and saw that the bear hadn’t continued migrating out of the mountains. It seemed to have stopped about ten kilometers deep inside.
However, this was hardly good news for him.
Due to the environmental changes, it wasn’t just the bear moving toward the area around the village; all sorts of smaller animals were flocking over as well.
Everyone had been saying that the number of animals in the area had increased lately. It seemed the effects of the purified air were continuing to spread.
He walked toward the Medicine House. Feng Ziling’s master hadn’t left yet and made a trip into the mountains every day.
"Ziling, has your master gone into the mountains again today?"
"No, my master went to see the clay statue of the Earth God today."
"That’s good. When your master gets back, tell him it’s best not to go into the mountains anymore. A bear has appeared."
"A bear! I understand. I’ll tell my master as soon as he returns."
Lin Feng came out and saw Zhao Shiyun sitting bored at her desk.
"If you’ve got nothing to do, you can take a walk around the village."
Zhao Shiyun tilted her head and looked over. "Okay, I got it. I’ll go hang out with Hu Xia in a bit."
Because their medicine hadn’t been approved yet, the two of them had a lot of free time recently. All they had to do each day was prepare the Medicinal Tea.
Just as he stepped out, his phone rang.
"Hello, Hu Xia. What’s up?"
"Those pharmaceutical reps are here again. They say they want to see you."
"Don’t they ever give up? I already told them I won’t see them and I won’t cooperate with them."
Hu Xia replied helplessly, "They’re just sitting here and refuse to leave. You should probably come over and see them, just to send them on their way."
"Fine, I’m on my way now."
’These guys are certainly relentless. I’ve rejected them so many times, yet they still keep coming back.’
’It’s probably because their research has yielded no results, and they see so many people coming to the mountain to buy medicine every day. The buzz about the Medicinal Tea online isn’t dying down, either.’
For these pharmaceutical companies, watching Lin Feng sell a limited amount of such a miracle drug each day was truly agonizing.
The companies that came today, for instance, were all well-known domestic corporations with deep pockets.
It was these very companies that had teamed up to obstruct Lin Feng’s application, causing the approval process to get stuck at a certain stage and never go through.
When he arrived at the pavilion, he saw five pharmaceutical reps sitting there. Surprisingly, he didn’t recognize any of them.
"Gentlemen, regarding the medicine, I have already made it clear that I will not cooperate with any company. If that’s what you’re here for today, you can leave now."
"Boss Lin, business is about win-win partnerships. Your current model is a complete waste of the formula in your hands.
As long as you’re willing to work with us, we can help you resolve the issue with your stalled pharmaceutical approval.
Furthermore, we’ll fund the construction of a factory for you and give you 30% of the profits. All you’ll have to do is sit back and collect the money."
Lin Feng said impatiently, "I’ve already told you this medicine can’t be mass-produced. Can’t you do your homework before coming to see me?
If there’s nothing else, you can leave."
’Logically, it’s not like his Medicine House was a secret. Just a few days ago, some tourists had indeed pretended to wander in by mistake.’
’In fact, more than one tourist had ’mistakenly’ wandered in, and they had secretly filmed the entire process inside. How could they still not understand the situation?’
"Boss Lin, don’t be so quick to refuse. If you can’t get the medicine approved, you might not even be able to sell your Medicinal Tea in the future."
Lin Feng said scornfully, "Is that a threat? If you have the guts, then go ahead and send someone to shut down my Medicinal Tea business."
"Boss Lin, this is a win-win situation. Why are you so unwilling to cooperate?
Look at how many people come seeking this medicine every day. Many patients are waiting for this drug to treat their illnesses. Can you really bear to let them continue suffering?"
"That’s right. If you work with us, we can promote this medicine more effectively and make it available to more patients.
You can’t let patients wait anxiously just because of your own selfishness."
"Boss Lin—"
"Stop! You can all leave. Trying to use moral blackmail on me? You should take a good look at what kind of people you are."
Seeing the angry Lin Feng, they exchanged an awkward glance. ’It’s just as we heard,’ they thought. ’He’s completely unyielding.’
They couldn’t understand Lin Feng. They could make a fortune by cooperating, so why was he so unwilling?
As for his claim about being unable to mass-produce it, that was just an excuse. They had studied the entire process countless times.
Aside from the handmade process being a bit tedious, there were no difficulties at all.
They wouldn’t even need to design a new production line; some of the existing pharmaceutical lines in their factories could easily replace the manual labor.
"Boss Lin, I hope you don’t regret this. Foreign pharmaceutical companies also know about this drug and are working to crack the formula."
Lin Feng waved his hand dismissively, not wanting to talk to these people any longer. He stood up and walked away.
The five men watched Lin Feng leave with sour expressions. They couldn’t understand why he wasn’t the least bit afraid of his formula being cracked.
After getting back to their cars, they all started calling their bosses to report the situation.
The company bosses had been gathered together, discussing Yang Yongjun’s visit to Lin Xian Village and trying to figure out how to continue stalling the approval process.
Their moods soured even further upon hearing the news.
"What is with this guy? It’s like he’s not afraid of his formula being cracked at all."
"We’ve studied that formula carefully and watched the secretly recorded videos. They don’t add anything else when they’re making the medicine."
"That’s what’s so puzzling. The medicine’s healing principle relies on the ingredients it contains.
We just can’t understand why those ingredients are so effective."
As for the possibility of a new substance in the medicine, current research suggested that wasn’t the case. It was more like the effects of the ingredients themselves had been enhanced.
But this conclusion couldn’t be explained by science. When they made the medicine with the same herbs and same ingredients, the effect was terrible.
Lin Feng only thought the pharmaceutical companies had arranged for people to secretly film them. In reality, they had installed a pinhole camera in the Medicine House and recorded the entire production process.
Throughout the entire process, they never detected any other substances being added.
This was especially true for the Medicinal Tea. They watched on video as the other party brewed it and carried it to the tea stall—the entire process was under their surveillance.
They followed the exact same method, brewing a one-to-one replica of the Medicinal Tea, but the result was no different from ordinary herbal tea. It had no medicinal effect whatsoever.
"I’ve heard that place is magical. Do you think it could be because of the location?"
"Useless. We secretly ran experiments in his village, and the Medicinal Tea we brewed there was just as ineffective.
We even used the very same medicinal herbs from his Medicine House. The tea we brewed in the end still produced the same result."
This revelation left them all silent. At this point, cooperating with him was the only way to get the drug.
"Forget it. Our company is pulling out."
"I’m out too. I hope you guys can figure it out."
This period of research had already disrupted many of their companies’ plans. They couldn’t afford to waste any more time on this.
The remaining three looked at each other. None of them expressed any intention of quitting; they still wanted to give it a try.
Unfortunately, someone was no longer going to give them that chance. Wang Zhongxi gathered the information he had collected, took the Clearing Heat and Stopping Cough Pills, and went to find his teacher.
